Really, I watch cnn because I like it. I watch specials on the History Channel because I like them. I read slashdot because I like it. But when some adult comes in and whines "Do we HAVE to watch cnn/some show about history?" I change the channel, thus preventing me from learning about the world around me. It's frustrating; Knowledge is power, power is too misplaced, so I want to return balance to it.
... I really hope that wasn't a blanket statement. I can do most of the math i need to do either in my head or on paper. If you look at my math homework, it's covered with me figuring stuff (Which is why my teachers always think it's messy and give me a lower grade). The kids who use a calculator (and don't know it as well) have neat papers and get higher grades.
In the district where I go to school, we have 2 types of computers: laptops (with wireless access) and thin clients (in each classroom).
Since I've been in high school all we've done is work in Microsoft Word, which is, of course, expensive, but is also 'the standard'.
I would prefer to have to actually learn to think for myself, not be told 'click the little button with the B on it'; I'm not a sheep, folks; I don't know about my peers, but I should not have to 'learn to use technology' when I already know more about it than the people charged with taking care of it.
It seems entirely ridiculous to me to equate using word with learning about technology. Many school districts (read: 'mine') needlessly spend thousands of dollars a year to buy new technology, and it just sits there unused. All because the district wanted to, essentially, keep up with the district next door. Having new technology does NOT mean that it's being used.
Microsoft charges way too much for anything they touch. Example: Microsoft office is expensive (isn't it like 200$?) WIndows is expensive (100$). They make a crapload of profit at the expense of almost every computer user.
They need to keep people thinking that their program is deserving of taxpayers' money. The best way to do that is to launch the shuttle, especially after something like columbia.
They did what they with what they had; the government keeps cutting nasa funding, and THAT is what lead to columbia -- too little money, too much to do.
I remember reading about a mouse software or driver or something that was specifically designed for people with unsteady hands. What it does is it takes the average of the cursor position and gives that to windows to work with.
Another solution you might want to look into would be engineering something that could track the movement of part of her body and translate that into mouse movements.
And the word summer NEVER comes up in normal conversation. Nor does the word 2012 come up either...
I can see it now
Tom: "Hey, I can't wait till the summer of 2012 becau--"
Trademark Police: "Stop right there, infringer!"
Tom: "I didn't do anything wrong!"
Trademark Police: "According to this law you did. Those words are trademarked."
Tom: "How the hell did they trademark a year and a season?!"
Pitiful
This is why i am no longer a christian. This kind of illogical bullshit driven by a lack of knowledge about the world around you is becoming annoying. If it's not porn, it's music, or tv, or premarital sex. But, of course, they never offer viable solutions to anything, they just say 'this is bad'
In all reality, pirating (at least for me) makes me actually want to buy cd's.
normally, i think that everything sold today on cd's/dvd's is shit. If my friend recommends me an artist to go download, I'll give it a shot, because we tend to have similar tastes. If i like what i hear, most of the time i'll actually buy a cd (for example, i just bought 2 darude cd's and rammstein's reise reise.)
Basically, the RIAA wants to be able to say "We want YOU to spend YOUR hard-earned 20 bucks on a cd that only has 2 decent songs on it. Don't download it! It 'hurts the artists!' (read: hurts our bottom line) Be a good slave to our fucked-up system, and we'll reward you by giving you more crap to listen to!"
I remember the game SimEarth had you do something like this in order to make it livable. Of course, I nuked everything that moved, but that was a different story.
Why are we trying to terraform mars?
Hillary Clinton is a flaming example of hypocrisy. She always talks about how 'children have access to pornography in video games' and how video games are leading to the objectification of women, and then goes and says 'women should be given unrestricted access to a dangerous form of birth control'. That, to me, raises the flag of hypocrisy.
Too bad i've already sent invites out to everyone I know. Anyone still want one of my 50 invites?
Gmail is a great service though. It really is very well planned, with features that one would expect from google.
The most recent book in my local library about Linux is from 2000; the one before that is the red hat manual from 1996. New books are a GOOD thing
What part of computers do you think is best? Which part is the worst?

Go figure.

He's probably just forced to at work because the company won't switch...

The company would not have to pay for bug fixes; just 'employ' the open-source community to fix the product for you!

Compaq sucks... Now all they need is an ass-rape powered generator. Windows users would never need to plug their computers!
If only it weren't true.

That's almost as many downloads as Windows XP Pro!
A slow news day?
wow... anyway, this sounds like a neat project... probably a pain to make though.
*looks at the ground* OH MY GOD!! I'M KILLING IT!! >.> YOu said the gazes were harmful...

The most constructive use for a PSP yeT? THis is cool. Does Xorg run yet?
Wonderful reference to communism/Rand's "We the Living". But yes. The state is trying to take over our lives, slowly and surely.
So... i hate ms and all, but is there any real difference between this and a WINDOWS computer in a car, hardware-wise?

Yep. When will people learn how to make their own decisions? Probably not until the school system is fixed.
You DO realize that you don't need to put a new tag at the beginnging of every word, right? Anyway, this is pretty neat, but why shouldn't i just use my old pentium and save myself some money?
