14 year-old wins against anti-video game lawyer: Jack Thompson
This is a very interesting post on this guy, how a 14 year old properly rebutted all he has been bs'ing about. This 14 year old is not me... just posting what he put here because i find it interesting...

I found a link to your site, www.stopkill.com, through an online forum. I looked over it, and although I think that there is some genuine concern over the effect of violent media on kids, many of your statements on that site were made in ignorance. What I plan to do in this email is to help you gain a better understanding of video games, and to show you that while your intentions are good, your current course of action is a mistake. I'm going to present my arguments calmly and logically, and you're welcome to write a rebuttal if you wish. First off, let me tell you a little about myself. I'm 14, and I've been playing video games avidly since I was 8. I'm pretty knowledgeable about the subject of video games as a whole, and I've played my fair share of Halo 2 and other shooters, including the Ghost Recon series, which is regarded as one of the most realistic FPSs (first-person shooters, in case you aren't familiar with the terminology). I also enjoy strategy games, in which the death toll is often far higher than what you'd encounter in a FPS. I'm an archer, a martial artist (Tae Kwon Do), and I was taught how to operate a gun by my grandfather, who's an experienced hunter. And, oddly enough, I've never felt the urge to kill, or even seriously injure, anyone. I imagine that killing in self-defence would be extremely difficult for me, despite my alleged desensitization. Now I'd like to dismiss a misonception (I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt and not assuming that you're twisting the truth) you have about games like Halo, which are called FPSs. These are not "sniper games." They are games presented in first person, in which you shoot enemies, manage ammunition, and explore levels. You may fail to see the distinction between "sniper" and "first person" based on that description alone, but if you ever take the time to play any of these games, you'll understand that there is no comparison between playing a FPS and operating a rifle. Which brings me to my next point- games can't accurately "train" you to commit violent acts, despite your claims. First off, games are innacurate by their very nature, and they give you less practical knowledge on operating firearms than watching a few hours of History Channel would. Secondly, I'm going to walk you through a typical scenario of me playing Halo 2, which is probably the best FPS available right now1) I rotate the right control stick slightly, then hold down the right trigger. There is no violent intent towards my enemy, wether it's an AI-controlled bot or a human opponent I'm facing online- it's a simple challenge in the case of the former and a friendly competition in the case of the latter.(2) On screen, a series of polygons which emulate bullet trails appear. Those polygons collide with the polygons rendered to represent my enemy, and those same polygons then emulate my opponent dying. The important distinction here is that there is no gun, no bullets, and no enemy. There is a rotation of the control stick and a pull of the controller's trigger, resulting in a change of the onscreen display. Anyone who can't see the difference between this and the act of firing a gun at a human being is clearly unfit to be playing these games and, frankly, is an idiot. Which, once again, leads me to the next point I'm going to make. No one in their right mind would ever do the things that you blame on video games. A quick glance at such actions shows that there are far bigger, far more serious causes than violent media behind them. Now, you may wonder, "Why would someone kill a person in a video game if they think it's wrong to do in real life?" Well, the truth is, no one gets hurt when you kill a video game character. There are corporeal consequences to commiting acts of violence on rea

Kind of weird to search for a book of this nature and have it tied to a bunch of books on sex nd gay sex...
Use a normal condom for vaginal intercourse and oral intercourse, use a thicker condom or two combined for anal intercourse, do not swallow sperm, these guidlines apply to straight and gay people equally
Why not stopping having sex recklessly? The best anticonceptive and best Anti-sexual venereal disease is just not having it... If Im going to put 2 condoms for one thing, 3 condoms on for another and 20 condoms if she is going to swallow, it would be better not to have sex at all.
Mac Zealot? You calling me a mac zealot because i dont have to have security on my mind 24hrs a day 7 days a week like people on windows have to? Tell me why are there far less risks of a virus in linux environments? OSX is based on a design of linux, of bsd, to be more precise. Meanwhile those 5 years come by, technology will change and what is great now will be better then. So you know what? Take your paranoia and deal with it, in the mean time I will enjoy computing how I once enjoyed it once before.
BTW since it seems you have never used OSX, it does come with a firewall built in... so its not like im running unprotected...
Love being free of that shit... love being a zealot of freedom.
I'm 35 yrs old. I started my life in the computer business with an apple IIe, then moved to windows, and stayed there, til just about June 29, 2005, when I bought a MacMini, because I simply said, "I gotta have one of those", and it changed the way I work, the way I do most of my things inside a computer. In a way it returned me my passion to work in a computer environment again.
Sure, over 90 million computers world wide run Microsoft Windows. We run this OS because its not a choice, Windows is basically imposed in our daily lives, even our careers. As a computer engineer I know that. Go ahead and put in your resume, you only know Mac. You will never find a job... (at least on a computer oriented career), Windows rules all our lives and what do we get of it? More viruses, faulty hardware, lack of security and the same ol' beige box feeling we have had since we laid our hands on a PC for ever. I mean, anyone my age knows that the first PC they laid their hands on was a beige tower of some bulky size. And that was at least 15 years ago. Take a look how cars change in 15 years...
Then look at apple... everynow and then, they shove out a new computer design, always pushing technology to an edge, first with the flat panel imacs, then the ipods, and then OSX, which is basically what everyone has tried to do with Linux. OSX to me is the embodiment of Linux on the Desktop.
I just know that since i switched to apple, I dont worry anymore of viruses, nor i worry if my e-mail has some bundled adware into it, and like many other people have said in this post, it could eventually happen, but right now it hasn't happened for me.
I recently dug myself deeper into apple. I bought a G5 Dual 2.0ghz and have it running with 4gb ram, and the works. Sure i admit i miss my games on the PC... although i play World of Warcraft, without any problems on my powermac, and any other games I play, i play'em on my Xbox, and eventually my 360. My GF who is also an Engineer uses windows because of her daily work, but she uses my mac everynow and often and she likes it a lot... im sure she will want one once we move in toghether.
Finally, i don't know what future Vista will offer anyone. Everything Vista does, OSX does for me. Plus OSX is far more secure than Vista will ever be. The Software part, well its coming around... At least anything i need to use or do I can do it on my mac... no biggy there. Just think other companies should try to develpe more ingenuity and true innovation like Apple does. Instead of stealing ideas only to develop them shittierly than they are originally developed. OSX has brought apple out of the dark ages into the light. I just wish we could all enjoy of the benefits this brings forward.
Now let me go back to my GF and keep raising those GF Points up... I want a video ipod...:)
If you went to high school, and learned to read, then went to college and got more intelligent, you would understand he wrote it as an E-D-I-T-O-R-I-A-L, now repeat after me, Editorial. Ok.. Editorial is basically a statement or an opinion aside from whatever topic is run in a news system (such as slashdot) that can carry It's editor (hence the name editorial), in his own opinion aside to whatever it is written. So in simple words you can understand without blowing a carothid in your body, he wrote an opinion about something, within his given space as editor of this news site.
And if you don't like it, then go read www.disney.com or something like that...
As a player of a Lvl 60 Paladin in Crushridge, I understand your point, since after getting to lvl 60, i was ordered to change my name to something else because some player thought Snafu was offensive to him. So now my paladin is aptly named Nobody. At first I didnt like the change because like you, no one recognized me... Imagine I was a lvl 60 and you know how many people I had to tell them "it's me... Snafu"... But then when i started horde ganking seriously, it must be funny listening to a guy tell their guildmates they were ganked by Nobody... It is also funny how funny it gets in instances... "Nobody get that loot... and i mean Nobody...", so i have found a lighter side of things in this...
Keep up the mag dude... Oh and What makes you think Violated is not a name they will ban too?
The servers are in a gigabit connection. The imacs and some pc's are 100mbit to the gigabit switch. Theorically 10 connections working at full duplex = 1 gigabit. So people at this network are not sending huge chunks over the network server transit is quite good...
As Quickbooks goes we are running Quickbooks for Mac, on a network/multiuser environment. The Quickbooks used on the Laptop PC's are for use with our clients files, but all of the office internal audits and transactions are handled on macs. I have been looking for a decent CRM application to run on OSX but I havent found any. What we have been working on is on a port of Zimbra to OSX..
From my point of view coding for mac is not complicated, if you actually come to think about it coding for mac is a synch, im not a coder, but from application design it looks less complicated than coding for windows. so I would suggest you enormously to go ahead and program that application you say you want to build, if you need to beta test it, let me know and id be happy to.:)If you want to contact me directly my e-mail is gilbertopalau(at)gmail.com
I'd like to add also, that we have very good relations with Intuit since we beta test a lot of stuff for them, and we have a couple people certified in quickbooks, so we have the know how of how to push the program to do things our way. But like I stated before It helps having a gigabit connection network wide, a shatload of memory on the servers and well I guess good IT Knowledge on how to deploy a network so it works in your favor.
But Apple's OSX Server is a defenitive key solution other IT's should take a dive and test it. Specially with all the features it has and the ease of administration and the power to do anything you can do in Linux/Unix and 10 times better than Winblows Server.
Not all 40 users use quickbooks. Only 20 of them use quickbooks on a daily basis... The other accountants use Quickbooks on their laptops to sign into the Weekly Timetable to sign in their hours. Our network is gigabit based, so slowdowns dont occur...
Another thing is we have been developing our own scripts to push quickbooks a bit, its really not that bad at all...
Recently in seeing how much I detest Windows Environment, and although I love linux, its still too far complicated to use it in a collaborative environment, in my opinion and some of my users.
Therefore I have been experimenting with other Alternatives, such as Apple's OSX Server. OSX to my surprise is an organized way of working with Unix. So in the past months i have been learning how to use OSX Server and have polished my skills into using it in "Hybrid" Environments, with the most excellent results.
One of my clients was a Windows Shop, It took me several months to convince them to change the server into OSX. The prerogative was simple: Apple offered us the perfect growing up environment for a company of 20 something employees that could get as big as 50 in the next couple of years. How? Well Apple's Xserve and Unlimited Lic. OSX was the key. When I presented them with both investing plan's, which consisted of a Dell Server and Windows, and an Xserve and OSX, it basically came down to a 17k dollar investment to do with the Dell, Windows and all its licencing, and 4 terminal stations. In comparison with the Apple Equipment, the Xserve (2.0Ghz PowerPC, 1gb ECC, 80gb sata hdd (expandable to 3 hdd in sata raid 0)) and OSX Unlimited + Apple Remote (Unlimited), It only went up to $11,075.00. When I presented them both quotes, and told them that with the mac we could have interoperability with Windows XP pc's accessing the server as well, better security, easier configuration and other options, the company decided to take the dive and went the Apple way. Recently they had 20 more employees added, in which this would have meant an increase in licencing of over $2000, the company kept hiring and keeps growing without any problems and the IT Structure is solid. For applications, we Use Quickbooks 2005 for Mac and Quickbooks 2005 for Windows XP, Office for Mac and Office XP for Windows (althought we are going to change to Open Office 2.0 in December 2005). The reason we have a couple windows machines, is for some industry specific applications that we cannot find on mac, so we use them on windows. Everything else is run on the macs with no problems.
I want to add that the Remote Desktop of Macs is an awesome tool. I can make OSX Deployments far more easier than it is in Windows Server Environment. The next client im going to work on this week, Im going to propose the same change, in a bigger scale... I know ill be successfull because the previous client is in love with his system at work.
OMGUROXXORS means: Oh My god you Rocksors... Rocksors is an extension of rocking hard.... but honestly don't believe it. One of the benefits of the Internet, is anonimity... and my gender to this conversation is irrelevant, then again reading your conversation of Gentler Genders, makes me think you are just plain stupid or jut generally sexually challenged.
I think the writer of this news should go back to writing school. The person was not judged for selling modded xbox's, but for piracy. If you buy a modded Xbox or you sell it, its not illegal. But if you fill the Harddrive with any type of game from 1 to whatever it fits, this is what is illegal. I guess he was pretty dumb to do it.
Its because of idiots like this we pirates don't have a hobby anymore...;)
I know... :) I always check what they are doing... I think this is a great platform to do some great things... all this power... Imagine the shit they got done with the Xbox1, I can't wait to see what they will be able to do with this thing...
I have a modded Xbox, reason i modded it was to take my games to lanparty's and not bohther about loosing the cd's. My point is that regardless how much piracy can make a product stand, it cn also take a product down. Microsoft sells 1,000,000 consoles but they loose 100 bucks in that, you know how much money that is?that is 100 million bucks lost. Im sure if you were in the other end of the desk, you would have a stroke by now. Hey if everyone wants to piate games go right ahead... but dont tel me that because you pirate something the industry gets any richer. Until Microsoft or Sony or Nintendo, make a console where they at least make .01 cents (at least) they are loosing if we dont buy their games. If we pirate the games they dont win anything....
Jesus, the console is barely a month old and you people are already thinking in doing something else with it? Could we enjoy it til January 2006 before you start contemplating doing OS changes, putting hamsters to roll on a cage, adding fish, dressing it as barbie to play "tea party"... ;)
That is why there are hackers and they are normal peeps... ;)

What is wrong with socializing and making friends over a game? That is one of the most awesome details of playing it. Its an extension on how you meet people and interact with them.
One of the benefits of the Internet, is anonimity... and my gender to this conversation is irrelevant, then again reading your conversation of Gentler Genders, makes me think you are just plain stupid or jut generally sexually challenged.
OMGUROXXORS
Jeez dude have a life...
Its because of idiots like this we pirates don't have a hobby anymore... ;)
