  1. Re:space race consequences? on Schoolboy Corrects NASA's Math On Killer Asteroid · · Score: 1

...which actually brings up an interesting point, as music is one of those rare things that brings together those of extreme mathematics and of extreme artistic personalities. There are many who play music without really understanding any of the math behind it (though I usually shudder at their rhythm skills), just as there are those (like one of my best friends) who are as strict as possible with their interpretations. Eh, no matter. But it is true that music helps out with math and reading.

Uhm, you seem to be confusing "bug" with "spyware" or "virus/worm/etc". We're talking about security holes here, which you seem to understand first. But then you start talking about Windows Defender and unnamed anti-virus software. First off, I think that Defender is just anti-spyware, since it is based on GIANT's code, but idk if that's changed. Secondly, there's a big diff between a virus and a bug. Granted, bugs can allow a virus to propagate, but an anti-virus isn't like a penetration testing team, trying to break into your computer to tell you if you have vulnerabilities. And besides, different viruses can use the same loophole. And also, many viruses need the user to do something unwise, not just from someone port-scanning or something.

Most of the music I listen to doesn't have any tracks on last.fm. Either that, or you can't dl it, so I can't transfer it to my Creative Zen. Instead, I look at similar artists and fire up limewire, though oftentimes I can't find anything. That's what makes me hopeful for we7.

Blizzard graphics in WoW are actually quite intense. They have their own style and incredibly complex textures. They use fewer polygons in some areas, but are not blocky because they avoid the blockiness by reducing the number of 90-degree angles. (Thus, things don't look blocky to the eye -- cf: City of Heroes.) Really? Some of the backgrounds look decent to me, but overall, it looks really blocky to me (looking at official screens too, not just my friends' comps). Then I look at Guild Wars Nightfall. Ah...

The main gameplay thing that wow mostly eliminated was camping global spawns. Again, why I love GW. Everything's instanced, so it's even better than WoW, in that aspect.

Blizzard took most of the best parts of many games, and did it right, making a fun game and hoped people would play it instead of implementing cheesy tricks to keep people playing longer. Are you talking about things like making you grind to level so that you can get new 1337 skillz? Or are you referring to the "crap time" such as having to run from place to place (or pay to fly to/from selected locations)? My WoW friends are constantly amazed at how in GW I simply "map" (teleport) to any town I've been in. There's no sense in running (or riding a mount) back and forth to places. I'm not actually playing the game during that time, and I *hate* wasting time.
