No, I get it. I'm referring more to the bit where old people complain that kids today are soft. "You have school busses? Back in my day we had to walk to school!" It usually adds the "Up hill! Both ways!" which is, obviously, completely ridiculous.

I gotta admit, I was less than thrilled.

I assumed that the concept of "mixed reality" was less like "virtual reality" and more like "augmented reality." So I watched the video and assumed that the house was supposed to be real. And the guy is talking about how I can scan my actual chair and create something similar in my "virtual world"? Why do I care? Oh, and a record player represents music. I assume I can leaf through a bunch of albums and singles kind of like a I used to do versus that whole searching thing...

I mean, okay, I live in a shit-box apartment in Queens but I can virtually make it look like I live in a gorgeous beach-side apartment. And if I decide I want to go out on the balcony of my virtual beach-side apartment, I have to teleport there because there's an actual physical wall that will keep me from walking out (though it will warn me if it looks like I'm about to walk into a real-world wall.).

And this is exciting because...? Who cares?

Cable is usually limited to the home--I can watch TV on my phone while sitting in my house, but I lose pretty much all the worthwhile live channels if I'm using WiFi or Cellular service.

So if I have unlimited cellular, I can still get my local channels. I can conceivably shop around for the best/cheapest dumb-pipe Internet service and then pay $35 for YouTube TV. That might be less expensive than "Basic Cable TV" from the local Cable company.

One question I have: Will I get local channels depending on where I am (i.e., KCBS in LA but WCAX in Burlington, VT)? Can I choose what affiliate I want regardless of where I am? Time zones? Can I watch "Agents of SHIELD" at 7:00PM Pacific Time rather than waiting until 10:00PM when it would air on my local ABC affiliate?

I'm with the GP on this one. I'll go see the big blockbuster on the big screen. No complaint. But I'm not going to spend $25 to go watch a cute rom-com on the big screen. I don't really gain anything from seeing it in the theater versus watching it on the TV or on my iPad.

Just because there's no talking doesn't mean it isn't speech. There are plenty of gestures that come to mind.

Furthermore, if I made a video of myself describing everything that I saw when something happened, you would consider that speech. So making a video of it actually happening would also be considered speech.

Speech is more about communication. That communication does not have to be done by talking.

    Well, it depends.

Remember that this is China. Socialized medicine. So, no, you don't have to worry about medical or dental.

Here? Might be a bit different--you'd better make sure you can work and still afford your ACA benefits. It's a similar thing with life insurance--if you feel it is important, you buy it.

The issue is whether or not your "gigs" can provide enough money so that you can afford to buy those things yourself.

Apollo 8 was the first manned test of the Saturn V. There had been several tests of the Saturn V before Apollo 8, however there were plenty of issues. NASA tested some of their fixes before the flight of Apollo 8, but never on actual Saturn V. So, in many ways, Apollo 8 was riding on an "untested" Saturn V.

I personally am much more suited to working in office and can never get anything done at home [...]

I'm the same way. My solution was simple: Go get an office.

There are lots of options for people who don't want to work from home. Personally, I went for the "Executive Suite." I get an office with a window and decent Internet for a little less than $600 per month. There's also a community kitchen and photocopier. It came with a desk and chair--nothing fancy--but I'm not paying extra for them (i.e. I didn't rent a furnished office, they were left by the previous tenant). Needless to say, the company provides the computer and router. I can sit and video chat or IM anyone I need to get ahold of.

Other options are your local coffee shop or co-working type places. While the company I work for doesn't assist me in paying for the space, some will. Also, as I understand it, I can write off my rent on my income taxes.

While the commute from the bedroom to the spare bedroom or living room sounds cool, I like keeping them separate. But my office is about 4 miles from where I live. I can bike, drive, or even walk!
