So what you are saying is that I should not be allowed to host my own email servers. That is not an acceptable solution for my business.
Actually, I think he is OK with you hosting your own mail servers, it's just that he is suggesting that your mail server should be allowed ONLY to send email via the ISP mail servers as a relay. The ISP can then monitor who abuses the email and who doesn't, and can shut off access when required.
Since most home users use the ISP relays anyway, they won't care. Probably most businesses hosting their own servers wouldn't care either, as long as their mail still gets delivered. There might be some like yourself that might prefer to send email directly from their own servers and the ISP can make allowances in those cases.
My daughter was happy with an old keyboard plugged into a cardboard box with a square drawn just inside the edge to make it look like a monitor. She pretended she was 'working on the computer just like Daddy'.
I had my computer, and she had hers.
We also kept the computers in another room and closed the door - by the time she could open the door herself she knew that she had been taught to leave the computers alone, unless we were there and had one of her games set up.
Even better than copying the image file: take a snapshot. When you want to go back to the clean starting point, stop the VM (don't bother to shut down, just hit stop) and then hit the revert button. Start the VM, continue.
Whenever a scientist gets experimental results that are far outside what was previously known and expected, the proper response is to either wait for independent verification (in this case, similar dating results from digs elsewhere in North America at the same depth) or subject the experimental procedure to intense scrutiny.
Yes, that's the proper response, but what then? We often see similar situations where a new piece of evidence - even after independent verification - does not conform to the accepted theory that some historian has spent his life working on. What happens? The new evidence is ridiculed, the discoverer vilified, and we continue teaching our kids the 'accepted' theory which has now been proven at least partially incorrect.
Unfortunately, science nowadays is all about politics. Nobody at the top level seems to want to say 'Ah yes, you are right - I need to revise my theory'.
Apologies to the researchers reading this who still pursue their science for the wonder of discovery.
- Publish stuff on BitTorrent - Receive 'accidental' take-down notice - Ignore it - Receive more notices, this time NOT accidental - Contact notice-sending lawyers and tell them you are publishing your own stuff
Hopefully end of story. If they persist,
- turn up in court, show the judge it's your own stuff
Maximum cost - a few minutes on the phone, and possibly a day wasted in court.
Old joke. A man is walking through Belfast when someone walks up to him and puts a gun to his head, asking 'Catholic or Protestant'. In a flash of brilliance, the man answers "err, actually I'm Jewish!".
The gunman smiles and replies "I must be the luckiest Arab in all Ireland!".
(No offense intended to gun-toting Arab Irishmen).
So I would have to run IE to sign up, then once I have a userid I can run Mozilla and try to login...hey, how come it doesn't work now?
Then I realise they don't know how to code their app properly, and I get pissed off that I have to fire up IE only so that I can get to their app. (Lucky I have Windows at work, otherwise that wouldn't even be an option). Then I decide NOT to go with them.
Sure, I'm in the 4% or whatever non IE % of browsers there are nowadays. They probably won't miss me. They now become one of those sites I don't go to any more, and I find another alternative. Everybody wins - although I'm not so sure about oddpost.
It might or might not be considered different. In Australia, you need a license from APRA in either case.
You can't even play a radio (where fees are already paid by the radio station for each song) in the waiting room without a license. If you have a radio playing at your desk, or in a workshop, that's ok - as long as no customers can hear it.
Anyway - when the hardware costs are dwarfed by the Oracle licence cost - why skimp on the hardware
The cost of licensing Oracle for development purposes is 0$. You only pay licenses for a production instance.
Re:*Disney* came out ahead when they dumped Pixar
on
Welcome To Planet Pixar
·
· Score: 2, Insightful
Interesting take, although there are good arguments to suggest Disney did NOT get the better end of the deal. Mainly the fact that Disney haven't turned out a decent animation feature in a while. They've had a few hits in the adult end of the market (eg. Pirates of the Carribean) but that's not where all the merchandising revenue is.
Sure, they'll pick up the merchandising from Toy Story, Bugs Life, Nemo etc. but that stuff doesn't hang around in the stores very long UNLESS you get another movie sequel to bring it all back in again.
If Pixar were getting a dud deal, they would have needed to get out sooner rather than later. Whatever the cost of leaving, they must have decided the cost of staying was too high.
Together a good exercise program AND a good diet will help you lose weight. Playing DDR for 30-60 mins per day is a good start, but only half the battle.
BTW, when I say diet I mean eating PROPERLY, not necessarily eating less. Just eating less doesn't help that much if it's still all junk.
The best way to go is to get up an hour earlier than you do now and exercise first thing in the morning, rather than trying to squeeze it in at night when you are tired and really don't feel like it. You might find you are a little tired (especially mid-afternoon) for the first few days, but once you are used to it it's a great way to get the blood pumping and get you started for the day.
After a while your body will become accustomed to your exercise pattern, and your weight loss might plateau. If this happens you should look at occasionally doing something different, such as swimming, cycling, running, or a sport like ultimate.

It is anti-semetic to blame all Jews for all time for somthing that happened over 2000 years ago
I dunno about that: God seems to be OK with 'punishing your sons, and their sons, for (some number) of generations'. If I remember correctly he didn't allow any way for the "children's children" to make it up to him either.
I'm not anti-semitic, but sometimes it seems that God might be. He's certainly not easy to please.

You obviously don't use windows, because the Microsoft Windows Update site is another one that requires IE.

No, I didn't miss the point. The first thing I said is that I agreed that you need decent proof.
*My* point is evidence is not enough.

I suggest that you follow these steps:

- Contact notice-sending lawyers and tell them you are publishing your own stuff

Dr Spock is a well known paediatrician (sp?) (kids doctor, not a foot specialist).
I think the OP was referring to Mr Spock of Star Trek fame. Although of course it was not Mr Spock who uttered that quote in the first place.
I think they should have left it there. It was a multi-core link, you see. (At no extra charge.)
I think I remember a recent /. story that said the average was now down to about 12 minutes.
But, maybe SP2 takes it back out to 20mins.
That's what I get for not doing a preview...
What? There's a way to peeview?
They could also open the DOC files in OpenOffice.org and hit the 'Generate PDF' button. That's how I would do it if I were in charge.
Even faster than that would be do_not_open_me_I_am_a_virus.exe

They have some stupid rules.
when a friend in Japan bought a Janet Jackson CD and couldn't play it in her car without excessive skipping
Interesting. I couldn't play that CD without excessive retching.

So you can hear the twangs and blips when you are playing pinball, of course!
This again proves that you should get your food from France, technology from Germany, and women from Poland.
D'oh! And all this time I've been getting my technology from France, my women from Germany, and my food from Poland!
