The backstory is core in World of WarCraft. Hell, it out dates the game by more than a decade. BUT, WoW is dominated by men and men playing women. Sure, I know a few actual, real females that play but they're in a pretty darn small minority.

I know two females you play or played WoW, and about four males (all of whom are disgusting). Not such a bad ratio. Also, you still power leveling and loot envy going on. I think it's more the adolecent male behavior that keeps women away from games.

Not just females -- Me as well.

This isn't at all a reason. When you port software, there should be a basic effort made to follow the conventions of the target system. The truth is Gaim is just a mess in this regard on every platform, even Gnome. Trillian also craps all over conventions. The only solid AIM client out there that behaves itself is Adium, and it goes so far beyond that is well. Things like Adium, Quicksilver, etc, will keep me on the Mac platform for a long time.

What gives you the right to have other people subsidize your enjoyment? The problem is too many people they are "entitled" to what they want even at the expense of others. Terms like fairness are often used and if that doesn't work discrimination and disenfranchisement are then employed.

Okay then, but when you're old and break a hip, don't expect any taxpayers to pick up the tab.

On the flip side, because they don't help you dig out speech as well as they should (it's like having 25% of the consonants you hear be wrong), you have to ask people to repeat themselves, which not only makes you look ignorant, but instead of actually repeating themselves, people will say, "Oh, nevermind" or "It's not important." Bull; if it weren't important, you wouldn't have bothered to say it, and I still want to know what you said.

As someone who has a hearing-imparing sibling, please do not take such comments as "oh nevermind" personally. It usually isn't that they're bored with you or are sick of repeating themselves. Usually it is that what they said just honestly wasn't worth repeating. They said it just to fill a gap of silence, and when asked to repeat it they honestly feel silly because it was such a vacuous comment. I know it can be frustrating, but try and let it go when this happens. Usually, when they say it isn't important, it really isn't. For people you talk to on a more regular basis, just let them know that you'd appreciate them actually repeating things when you ask them to. If they're half-way decent people, they should be more than happy to.

    Oh this is crap.

Surely people should NOT be able to pay to have ads for some politician in the paper. Do you really want to mafia or Haliburton or whomever legally able to pay for ads to be placed in newspapers? At least if they donate directly to the candidate, there is a record (ideally) of every single donation in one place, and it can be made public record. If you let everyone pay to put ads in the papers or on TV, no one would have any idea who's paying what for whom. It would be way too open to abuse; Whichever candidate represented the richest people would get the most exposure.

Furthermore, politicians should have their advertising budgets capped and paid for by the government. Yes, it is spending tax payer money to finance campaigns, but the net result is a much more fair and democratic system, and that is a very worthwhile way to spend taxpayer dollars in my opinion. Fifty million to get the message about candidates (including 3rd party candidates) is NOTHING compared to the billions of dollars we waste every year due to rich bastards like Bush getting into office. Let's spend a miniscule amount to ensure an better candidate.

As any GPL fan will tell you, it isn't about "freedom to", it is about "freedom from".
