If they did, then they should review the episodes: "The Sontaran Stratagem" and "The Poison Sky" from this past season. That's proof positive that the military should not have control over any vehicle with passengers by remote.
One problem, the boy scouts don't define which god or gods they are referencing. a Duty to God could just as easily be a duty to Nature, to Earth, or to Society. Heck if you wanted to believe you were a God I suppose you could do your duty to yourself.
I've never understood this. Here is the scout oath as I recall it from my days as a Boy Scout.
"On my Honor,
I will do my best;
To do my duty;
To God and my Country
And to obey the Scout Law;
To help other people at all times;
To keep myself physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight."
Now could one of you who is a true blue Atheist or Agnostic explain to me. If you do not believe in a God or gods, or any sort of deity whatsoever, then if you profess duty to something that in effect does not truly exist, just what duty could you possibly owe to that. Assuming that you believe God does not exist, what harm is there in saying it? Its the same thing with the Pledge of Allegiance. One nation under god. (little g though, I should note) There have been secular recitation of such oaths all over the world for centuries. So if someone could please explain to me, what harm is there in professing a duty "To God" if you personally believe he/she/it doesn't exist, why is it a problem? If it doesn't exist as you believe, then what duty could you possibly owe to something you perceive to not exist? My answer is a sum total of 0, but maybe my math skills in this department are flawed. Anyone care to enlighten me, cause I am most curious on this one.
I thought it was cool based on the headline, but then the article had to remind me that this is Disneyland as in Disney in California. Am I the only one that thinks 45 Mil is a bit pricey for such a short stretch of track?
Actually there were two back in the early to mid 80s as I recall, thus before "Clone Wars". There was Star Wars Droids, which as a young kid having seen Empire, never really understood the plots, and then there was the Ewoks one. Not much to say really, they both didn't last very long on Television.
If ever there was a time for MacGyver this is it. Surely the genius of MacGyver can find a way to repair or diver this satellite, all he needs is what a few components out of every/. user's pocket.
I haven't completed reading the article, just yet, but based on the blurb I'd agree Java should not be taught as a first language, it could be taught as a second or third language. My biggest gripe with my college experience in Software development was we started in an engineering class where we built basic C programs in a Borland C++ compiler, but after that class suddenly we had to take another C/Unix Class and compile on a 'nix framework. Then Immediately after that we had at least two classes on Ada (The second being on OOP Concepts). Now ADA is not a bad language, but I feel that what is needed is more discussion and following a main language through in the early years and then adding other language familiarity on top of the experience gained in another language. How can students truly appreciate LISP, ALOGOL, Fortran, or any other language unless they have some broad experience with at least one language. I also think that Java itself (And I'd add C# to this) can make programmers lazy, and that's my main reason why those should not be taught as first languages. (On a side note, does anyone still program in industry based on ADA?)
Your forgetting one thing. If this "Villain" had already stepped through the portal, and succeeded, it stands to reason that the future was then forever altered, and returning to where the "Villain" in question entered the portal would be impossible since such events would no longer exist in the timeline. Didn't you guys ever watch Back to the Future Part II? Sheesh.
Why on earth is it that the only way to remove content from Wikipedia's index is to delete the article outright? You'd think in an age of Subversion systems, and such, that there would be a way to hide the content from the general indexing system, so that its there to recover later or compare to if need be, but not clogging up the searching used in Wikipedia. Why on earth we would be deleting things (meaning they are likely gone gone gone) as opposed to hiding them or re-purposing them to some lesser importance. If you ask me this shows a logical flaw in the wikipedia system. I've long held that the wikipedia idea is great, but it would be so much more useful if you had moderators assigned to a particular area of knowledge, and they controlled what happened in their subset of knowledge, rather than the more global scope wikis have.
IT was not a remake but a continuation of the original series, where Haseloff plays a key (but not active field role) for the Foundation. It's not too hard to do that I think, I mean the guy got older, maybe he got appointed as the face man. The only problem is can there be a Knight rider with out Edward Mulhare has Devon though? That' would be a tough sell:/
It could be possible that most Engineering graduates are so sick and tired of the Bachelors system in college, that they feel they must go and work for a bit before they waste any more of their money on a potential Master or Ph.D. path on which they would not want to actually work at. That's what happened with me, by the time I attained my BS, I was sick of school and eager to get applying. I still hope to go back to school at some point, once I figure out a niche that is worth pursuing.
Okay I did not read the article, but based purely on the blurb I will say this. I don't care how much they improve rating systems, the V-Chip or whatever sort of Content Management they are developing to limit content for viewers no computer is ever going to be as Smart as the Human mind as far as determining what is good to watch, and what is not. There is a lot more to good Television (even religious inspired TV) than what's on TBN for example.
The closest thing I've ever seen in a IDE to a spellchecker are the intellisense functions that essentially allow you to type the first few letters of a namespace, class, member, or function and have it type out the rest of the words to you. I know this isn't exactly what you are looking for, but if spelling is something you want to work on, its time to break out the old noodle.
I agree with this. My father told me a story of how he was able to work his way through college, and had enough money left over after the wage he earned in the dining hall to have a good chunk of his loans paid off within 5 years. The problem with student loans, is now the lower wage jobs that Students usually start at aren't enough to make ends meet and also allow for paying on those debts. A better solution would be for the federal government to institute a "service" program that would grant renumeration of student loan debt at X rate per year of service to the Country, whether in their field of degree or not, for the Federal Government Directly or a contractor that is employed by them. That would definitely help, and could in turn help LOWER government costs for wages a bit in the short run at least. As it stands now I graduated in 01, I likely won't have my loans paid off till 2031. That's sad don't ya think? The wage I earn currently is not enough to pay sufficiently fast enough to expedite that curve. As a result, those loans are in forbearance and accruing interest that government isn't getting till I grow my income enough to pay. Its a very very bad situation, that Congress needs to FIX right now. There should be a Price Ceiling placed on the tuition costs for colleges in the first/second/third tiers. or some such, so as to keep students who put in this hardwork to train themselves to help the economy from being sacked in debt before they even find work.
Its great that they can do this in mice now, but at some point this stuff has to move beyond experimenting on animals and being tested on humans. I don't think I would jump up and down at the chance to be a human guinea pig, regardless of how promising this procedure may be. But I do hope they are able to continue their progress because it does seem to be a valuable technique down the road:/
Correct me if I am wrong but the attorney General's duty is to enforce and prosecute the law, not to propose, debate, and legislate it. I wasn't for impeaching this guy before, but now I say off with his head. This law would have far far too many unintended consequences. You think its bad with all the drug abusers who get locked up in prison, I imagine the Copyright issue will be an even further strain on our prison system if this law were to be passed. Call your congressman and tell them to just say NO!
It really depends on what sort of programming you do. For some folks they don't work for a company full time, but instead work on a contractual basis. I don't know if this is what your classification would be, but I wouldn't necessarily worry about having too much experience, so long as your leaving for completely valid reasons. What you could do, if your thinking about taking it is the following:
Assuming your manager is an open sort of person, you could approach them and express your concerns. Tell him/her that you just received a Job Offer, with increased benefits. You could then explain that while the money is tempting, you really would prefer to stay with the company you are at. You then could ask if there is any way they could match or at least improve what they are currently offering you in order to mitigate your incentive to move.
Now they might say no. They may not have the budget for it, but if you truly are that valuable a professional, then the company may very much prefer to keep you then have to go through an exhaustive process to find another candidate to train for the job.
Changing jobs often isn't necessarily a bad thing, so long as it doesn't prevent you from contributing to projects because of the learning curve each project may present
This like the SBC boycott of Disney will ultimately fail. Why? Its quite simple, its pretty hard to come down on a single game console when you've got systems like PS3, XBox that also have games like GTA. Add to that that you don't hear a huge public outcry against other "explicit" media such as television or movies and I think this is nothing but a fringe group that has its priorities confused. Yes you can find porn with a browser I have no doubt of this, but you could find that on the internet since shortly after it was created. So why not a push against the internet? If they really want to force nintendo to make the wii more family friendly, then what they ought to do is push for perhaps a "separate" network where such minded people can connect their Wii Consoles to without that fear of stumbling upon something. I'm sorry but this sounds like nothing more then opportunism to target a corporation just because they can.
Really we were panicking about nuclear winter? Please, I think most americans in the 80s were more concerned about being wiped out in a nuclear blast then in the after effects of global nuclear war. You know it never ceases to amaze me the lengths some liberals will go to stretch science for partisan gain. Is the earth warming? Of course it is, and with that comes certain factors, however, simply reducing emissions alone isn't going to stop this. Cleaner vehicles might help, but truthfully I seriously doubt that this ecomania about global warming is nearly as bad as exaggerated. Let's face it how long has man been recording findings on climate change, one, two hundred years or so? It's only recently that we've got the technology to truly measure these things. So how do we really know that this is due primarily to man and not part of the cyclical nature of climates? (Oh and as for this farce about last years winter being so cold, I call fault on that, While we did have a few cold weeks where I live it still was a rather mild winter by my experience.)
This article is a bit dates, I saw it a few weeks ago. Is Slashdot getting behind?
In any case back on topic, in High School i had the pleasure of taking a IBM Basica course. Fortunately I had a brilliant math teacher in it, but unfortunately it was a bore. I learned most of what i needed by reading through the book in its volume in a couple of weeks. However, the most important things I learned from the class to this day include how to build an algorithm. When I got to college, they threw all the engineers in a Engineering 2 class that was supposed to teach all engineers C. Unfortunately we were taught by a Civil Engineer and he didn't have much understanding. This became apparent when they guy's idea of a sort algorithm required three separate arrays: One for the original data, one to mark that it was moved, and the final one. Using what I had learned in High School I decided that I'd show this professor what a real sort looks like. I think i implemented it three different ways and also did it his way. (His way was much more convoluted if memory serves). Anyhow, when the professor saw the work, the next day I saw my three examples circulating the room as examples.
SO what is my point? I don't think its the syntax, or even basic concepts that our college programs are lacking. What is lacking is how to think critically and create algorithms for the situations we encounter. In one of my upper level courses we talked all class about the concepts of TCP/IP, but when it came to the programming projects were somewhat thrown to the wind. Now I'm not faulting this professor for that (it turns out the class was mislisted and should have required C++ as a prerequisite in the catalog. Too bad for me though. Once i got into actual CS classes they threw me into ada, which despite all its critiques was a GREAT language to learn on. I think all beginning programmers should be taught on a strong typed language. That way the can develop good habits.
But I thought the Treasury was preparing to start using colors other than the standard green on certain denominations. That still wouldn't help a blind person though. Visually impaired maybe.
I once heard eBay compared to the typical yard sales that dot the landscapes throughout the land. Where I used to live this one person had a yard sale every week, and sold a lot of money worth of merchandise. But eventually you find yourself running a yard sale the same day as someone else and location can play a roll. If people see 3 yard sales before they find your house, they may have already spent that cash. On Ebay that is basically taken out of the equation, yet the number of competitors are higher. It seems to me that vendors that rely on eBay to make a living are probably not realizing that eBay was likely never intended as a means for little folks to make money.
If they did, then they should review the episodes: "The Sontaran Stratagem" and "The Poison Sky" from this past season. That's proof positive that the military should not have control over any vehicle with passengers by remote.

He's right, the Religious Emblem, is an add on, an extra. It does nothing towards advancement in the cub scouts, or the boy scouts for that matter.
I thought it was cool based on the headline, but then the article had to remind me that this is Disneyland as in Disney in California. Am I the only one that thinks 45 Mil is a bit pricey for such a short stretch of track?
The problem is the term CGI is used for a LOT of different animation techniques these days.
