    The final destination for Codec2 *isn't* X86 processors, but DSP chips. If, for some reason latency is an issue when it's first shoehorned into a DSP chip, Codec2 will be refined until it works well on a DSP chip, in real real time.

    that is basically it. Speex is built (as I understand it) for lossless transmission methods with little/no error correction needed. Radio, by its very nature is a very lossy medium, so something with better error tolerance is needed. Hence, Codec2 provides a nice route.

    And I stand well corrected! every news source has its biases, and you've shown the gaping political/"idle" hole in Physorg. In terms of sheer volume, it probably has more of this stuff than Slashdot. However, it does balance it out with a whole load of real, technical science articles too. It's a venerable potpourri.

    And as a school, yes I have the responsibility to vouch that said student did actually come to the classes they claim they did when they show you that way overpriced framed piece of paper. Otherwise, I'm not better than some 2bit school selling degrees.

    Why waste money on this fancy RFID tracking system, like tracking cattle? If you want to force the hungover frat guys into class, hit em' where it really hurts, the grade book...

    Test often and test hard, if they don't show up they won't pass. No "2bit school selling degrees" would do something like that. Also, build each class curriculum with detailed lectures that cover material that isn't found in the book. If they don't show up to class, they miss key points that are on tests. Or, they have to pay through the nose for lecture notes and study them.

    In privately operated spacecraft!

    NASA paved the way with huge, expensive spacecraft. It's time now for the USA to put private sector ingenuity and efficiency to the Space sector. The US government should put some nice Tax incentives in place for space companies to keep them in the USA, thus keeping incentives for engineers and scientists to stay here.

    It isn't a waste of money if it pays for itself in Private hands!

    according to the current budget, its the private sector's job.

    There's BILLIONS of dollars in potential earnings from manned space flight in the private sector. First it will be ventures like Space Ship Two that send people up for a couple hundred grand a pop. In a few years there will be the first private orbital manned private spaceflight. There's ideas for hotels, private moon missions and much, much more.

    The manned spaceflight program provided the inspirations for thousands if not millions of scientists and engineers.

    NASA has successfully pulled this load for 50 years (of course Apollo more than Shuttle). NASAs turn at the forefront is over. Its time for the private sector to start doing the manned flight inspiring.
