My friend's suitemate got a Wii the day it was out, and I got to play Red Steel and Zelda. It was flawless. I could easily aim wherever I wanted and actually enjoy playing the game. Of course, I'd do it much faster and more precisely with a mouse, but it would be less fun , that's why they don't have mice on arcade machines. Also, last time I tried playing Halo or any other FPS on a PS2 - I couldn't play, because I just couldn't use the controller. For a first-time user, Wiimote is much easier to learn than dual-stick; it's faster to move around - and has the fun level which dual-stick will never achieve. In my opinion, he must have been clumsy or slightly impaired if he had too much trouble. Or maybe he was so used to dual-stick that he cannot accept anything else.
Sure ! There's a recent Russian theoretical invention called "Lugovsky's Bioreactor". Stupid people are to donate themselves (or be donated) to the bioreactor, where they will be processed into the valuable methane (=energy supply). Some of the solgans can be (approximately) translated as "Ain't learning calculus - you'll become methane for us", "Technophobes will be slain - our country needs methane", etc.
WHAT ? That was MY plan ! I've been planning to build a bioreactor for years ! I distributed the idea among out Math Club members and pretty much heveryone supported it. Apparently, great ideas are 'hanging in the air'.
Please mod the parent up, I'm out of mod points.
It seems that it's hard for some people to get the difference between "availability" and "broadcasting".
When I make some information available on (OLD) Facebook, it is available only to those people who cared to view my profile and actually read it there.
Now this information is automatically given to all people listed as 'friends', even if they don't care.
Also, due to specifics of Facebook, I cannot specify access levels; I cannot divide my friends into "groups" etc. So by default, when I make information available, it becomes available to real friends first only because they happen to be the people who open my profile ofen.
It's not a question of whether "information has been disclosed". It's just that one wouldn't like it when it happens.
This is a very good list indeed ! Please look at this list.
Please mod the parent (and the AC 0-score reply) up with "Informative".
Those who visit the link would find that Universal Records offers some
great & decent artists as well: among the list are
Paco de Lucia, Bon Jovi, Jimi Hendrix, U2, Limp Bizkit, Metallica (outside u.s.), Marilyn Manson etc.
(It's not that I like all of the above, but no one can deny that Paco de Lucia is a great flamenco artist - so there's at least one thing I' download. I guess a lot of people will find something for them).
Hey, I remember getting very annoyed by (IIRC) Verizon's voice systems. The system could not understand me even when I said "representative". After several failures, it did get me to the representative though.
Just to be fair:
1. I didn't know I could press 0
2. I AM 'Eastern-European'
Well, no one hs implied that he is good-hearted. From the article, you could tell he's qute anti-soical, doesn't have much (any?) real friends, hides from people etc. Not accepting the award somehow fits in his line of behaviour.
Considering accepting the award and then donating money to charity - well, it seems that he doesn't care about charities, or helping people, or whatever. He only cares about the fact that his proof is correct, and since this is math, this fact can be verified by anyone having sufficient level of understanding of the subject. Hence he has nothing left to care about.
I hope this guy comes to the US again some X years later when I will (hopefully) be able to understand what he would be talking about:)
I moved from Ukraine to the US 3 years ago; back then, gaming cafes were hugely popular (and, AFAIK, still remain very popular). I was spending there an hour nearly every day - with friends, of course; and when there were 10 of us it wasn't that easy to find a place where all of us can play at the same time:) That was a lot of fun. All we needed (and what all the places actually provided) were computers with LAN/Internet that had decent specs and popular games (Counter-Strike and Starcraft - perpetually, UT + 10-15 other games which most people didn't care about much - due to piracy, that was the easiest part there:) ) The price there was way less then $1/hour, and minimum was usually 20min, so ANYONE could play.
All I can think about the US is that $4 an hour, with $1 or $2 minimum will definitely get you people; maybe $6 will work, but a person with $2 bucks still should get in.
Also, I'd be happy to go to a such place, but I don't know of any such places around where I live now in Brooklyn. So good luck to you, and, hopefully, these places will appear all over the US, sicne the ability to yell "YOU BASTARD!!" to the guy who made a frag out of you in counter strike is definitely worth all the money paid for it:)
The author compares a game with a book, and I kind of agree with it. There's no reason to prevent you from 'skipping pages' in a game. But also often there's no reason to skip pages, in real books as well. I could never understand people who would read the ending of the detective story first; I always read the books linearly and consequtively because, in my opinion, this way was originally intended by the author and will allow me to appreciate the piece of art as a whole thing better. But even though I read a book linearly, I wouldn't like to buy a book that will actually block certain chapters unless I read certain pages. That sounds like
"If you don't eat yer meat, you can't have any pudding.
How can you have any pudding if you don't eat yer meat?"
and I totally don't want that (even though I do eat meat before pudding:) )
(BTW, my parents NEVER told me that:) )

Totally agree. But for the sake of completeness, you can turn off headers display at Yahoo.

Someone please mod this up ! The guy read my thoughts :)
All the ATM's at my local WaMu bank have headphone jacks, guess what they are for.
