I hope this one is faster than Mathematica 5. Also they finally seem to be able to handle graphics fast, and added sliders so that you don't have to recompute. Overall, seems to kick Maple's ass =)
..they forgot to put the US on the watch list. Considering the computer userbase here, the "amount" of piracy might be higher than in any of those countries, or even all of them taken together. Here's some numbers for you:
Ukraine Internet Users: 5.278 Million (2005)
Russia Internet Users: 23.7 Million (2005)
China Internet Users: 123 Million (2006)
India Internet Users: 60 Million (2005)
United States Internet Users: 205.327 Million (2005)
(According to https://www.cia.gov/cia/publications/factbook/inde x.html)
That does not really reflect the whole picture (people there buy bootleg dvd's instead of downloading), but might give you some ideas to think of.
Who cares about flash based laptops, wait 'till FLESH based laptops come out !
[Note: this is a typicall slashdot comment: I didn't RTFA, nor did I check whether previous commenters have already made stupid flash/flesh puns before me. Likely they did. I wonder how many of those are here already... =)]
I want color prints, because I like playing around with printing photos/t-shirts/etc. once in a while. So, after doing some research, I stopped on a Brother office-designated printer. This became a no-headeache perfect solution for me:
Ink cartridges are just that - plastics cans with ink. Not printheads and not some weird chipped devices whose only purpose is to prevent you from using third party ink.
The printer is built to exists on its own. It wil clean its heads once in a while. I can just leave it there for weeks without having to worry about weekly prints (without them, heads might clog, especially with 3rd party inks)
The two points above, combined, allow me to by $2-$4 cartridges and be happy.
With all those computers and technology, you'd think you could tweak everything on the screen ? Well, you can, but that's not what people like. Look at MIDI controllers - the better (and the pricier) it is, the more knobss/sliders/buttons it has. Because really, no on-screen control gives the same feel and power as a single knob. If you never tried those, just look at the volume knobs - they are KNOBS, not on screen thingies, because normally you'd like them better. The on-screen displays prevail for two reasons: 1)they occupy less volume 2)they let you maximize screen area 3)simpler mass production 4)there's "hype" about them. They are not there because they're efficient. Look at Boeing 747 cabin (http://www.airliners.net/)t's full of knobs and buttons, not OCD's.
PS: It seems like a certain MP3 player became very popular because, among other reasons, it had a tactile control wheel (and competition didn't).
The same can be said about pretty muc hevery other genre. Hollywood goes by the standard "follow-the-pattern" scheme, where they just stamp out modified copies of what made big bucks. So saying that Lucas killed Sci-Fi is like saying that Disney killed cartoons (or "animation"/"animated moveie"): names a single hollywood cartoon/animation that doesn't look like it was produced from Disney's grave (yes, anime doesn't count since it's japanese. flash animation also doesn't count, there's fantastic stuff on newgrounds.com, but it's pure creativity without any involvement of Hollywood).
..I often turn my ICQ/Skype off, and frequently have my status as "invisible". And quite a few of my friends do the same thing. So either we are sociopaths, or you need to be a special kind of 'teen' (thir-teen?) to actually like being constantly told about who's doing what useless thing (that's why people didn't like Facebook Feeds). Anyway, as far as live communication pwns everything else, all those services are doomed, just take a look at MySpace. Oh wait...
It works !!
I've beem wasting my keyboard presses for months =)
As for it being an easter egg, it is: bookmark nicknames cannot contain a dot or a slash.
Also, note that Opera does have bookmark nicknames, in case you didn't know,
so that you can type "sd" for slashdot as well. And "g stuff" to google stuff. Etc.
I have taken a game-making course in SUNY Stony Brook. To put it simply: it was great.
All the instructor needs to require is, literally, make students do a good game. They do the rest. With a little pressure, a lot of cool things are created (also, that's the idea of a make-a-game-in-12-hours contests, isn't it ?)
They've been doing it all over Brooklyn last summer, with white smoke though. Some crop duster was writing things in sky, and each time it kept on for like a minute before the wind blew it away. Impressive, though I can't remember what copmany/priduct the ad was for =)
I think it's all about trust and respect. People need to learn how to bring up their kinds so that they are responsible for their own actions. Then there's no need to spy. Online safety can be explained and followed by a 13-year-old as well as an 18-year-old.
Disclaimer: I have grown up in Ukraine, had my own room since the age of 3, no 'control' from parents whatsoever. Now I'm about to turn 20, and so far have never engaged in anything that would be worth spying on. And whenever I have a problem, I share it with my parents because I trust them and they trust me. Yeah, modifier -1 Corny, but why do the parents think that they MUST have total control ? The whole purpouse of the bringing-up process is to develop a person capabale of living a safe life and capabale of making right decisions on one's own.
Mod Parent Up !
He was actually quoting a service rep from the TFA,
who said literally that. There were many others,
but this one was the one I actually remembered...:(
(Yeah, I've listened to all that junk... I actually
screamed and banged my fist on the table a couple of
times:( My faith in humanity has been ruined:( )
My guess is that every normal person played some sort of war game with one's peers during childhood, or any other game involving "shooting" and "killing" (Lil' Crimstoppers anyone ?). If you go into a toy store, it seems like half of the toys are toy weapons or are related to military. This has been true for ages, and has not been a problem.
When Crime and Punishment came out, it caused quite a disturbance in society. If you think of it, this book might have much a stronger effect than any videogame. Yet it is being studied in schools now.
The point is - the person who might be 'affected' by a video game is not normal to begin with, since otherwise we'd already have been dead for centuries. Hence isntead of banning games, it would be more effective to ban mentally unstable people from the society (or at least maintain surveillance over them).
Hey, mod parent up, he's referring to the other article which says that BillG says it every time he listens to a presentation of a new idea.
I think it'd actually be even more sarcastic if you were in one of his classes =)
You commented as anonymous, are in one of his classes too ? =)

Please, mod parent up for lingustic correctness =) Pesdato (syn. Ohuenno) indeed is better translated like "fckin' awsome" and such =)

At that price you reaally regret that Greenphones do not yet grow on trees.

Wouldn't it actually be a Division By Zero Exception ?
Well, does ebay does it out of principle or maybe because they're afraid to get into legal trouble ? (Anyway, I feel sleepy, so I may not make sense)
Common sense vs. stupid laws - 1:0
Great ! So I'm not the only one ! Please mod parent up for being like me =)

Then you get what is called "Brown-brown"
Mod parent up for Amelie reference, please !

WOW! That's hilarious. I'll definitely try it next time I get a call from them !
