To add to this, threads are considered to be inexpensive in terms of RAM usage. Historically windows was designed for smaller computers with little amount of RAM.
Looking back its almost comical to think how much RAM each of MS OSes required. Although the architecture has significantly changed from windows 95 to windows nt/2000/xp, the requirement to make programs designed to work on older OSes kept the threading mechanism almost the same and therefore, more thread friendly environment.
IRL = in real life = used more often by mmorpg players since they are playing a virtual life AFK = away from keyboard = is used either as an alternate for BRB or as in doing something without being on the computer
They've always been open to have outside developers create the applications. Don't you rem....
What does that even mean? Open to outside developers? In comparison to what? Windows? Unix? Linux? Symbian? PalmOS? Dos? which were closed to outside developers? oh wait, they weren't. No OS is ever closed to teh outside developer.
Also a much bigger reason to keep the hardware closed is so that it can be sell at a much higher price. The so called reliability of Apple software isn't that great as you make it out to be and its definitely not the primary reason to keep a closed echo system.
The exchange feature is not new. It has been in WinMo since the beginning. 90% of the people who have winmo is for that particular reason. However in total, the number of people who need this feature are a minority.
Again, how does this secret prototype had anything that would give winmobile an edge over iphone (which is overrated itself IMO)?
The article makes it sounds like there aren't puzzle games anymore. IMO they just evolved into 3D world. Puzzles are not more subtle and part of the game instead of being the game itself.
Some games which had quite a storng element of puzzles and did quite well on the market:
Prince of Persia Trilogy Tomb Raider Legend & Anniversary Portal
I'm sure there are a lot more. These are just the most prominent ones.
They want older, stable, rpedictable, thoroughly vetted technologies... but what they do need os to know every quirk, every... do exactly what it needs too, and if that works fine
You do know that the pentium in your bomber is not to be used for posting on slashdot, right?
I'm using that for an old account and trust me, that is extremely slow. As one poster already pointed out, you can just host the email on google instead of forwarding it which is not efficient in the first place.
>>Although I think direct democracy would have its own problems too - we'd be under the will of the masses.
Thats what democracy is: Will of Masses
>>There are some things that referendums are appropriate for (issues that affect everyone), but just look at what happens when you put questions like "Should gay people be allowed to marry" to referendums as I believe has happened in some US states.
In that case, its a troll question to ask and it wouldn't help whether the democracy is direct or representative. Both can be manipulated all the same. The correct question to ask would be: Should anyone be allowed to marry regardless of their sexual orientation and gender?
I think what he/she meant was that just don't go to youtube. Post videos on your own site. Although I understand what you are saying. Its almost impossible to avoid youtube video if you use internet.
Its funny to see some people actually think that google is slashdot approved.
Get real, google is here because they have product(s) which are useful and sellable. Its not here because a bunch of geeks on slashdot like it. Neither will it go away if they start despising it.
Actually Powell strikes me as a guy who was deceived by his boss.
After all he left the Govt long ago (nobody knows why but I assume that due to some disagreement with bush), however decided not to act like usual politicians (changing sides in a heardbeat) even if it costs him his political career.
I would personally would like to hear what he has to say before making stoning him to death.
>>People who use their phones while driving don't grasp how dangerous it is.
The first human who walked out of a cave didnt' know how dangerous it was either. Life is dangerous, deal with it. If you are so scared of dying then the best thing to do is to live in the basement with a tinfoil hat.
Humans evolve. They learn to do new things most of which would seem dangerous to anyone who haven't done this before.
A lot of people, including myself know and understand how dangerous a lot of things are, yet we chose to do such things. Why? because its human nature.
For example: Wiring your home with electric wires would seem so dangerous to a person from teh 17th century. Oh the danger of having electric wires run througout your house. Also using a fast moving vehicle would also seem very dangerous to anyone from that era. Yet we take all those dangers for a little convenience.
Like it or not, Humans take risks and will continue to do so regardless of how some paranoids feel.

There was no stupidity in their behavior.
There was no point in adding features since they already destroyed netscape and essentially, won the browser war.
Can't think of a decent car analogy for this one.

And we see people wondering why the sites like piratebay exist.
I've bought a lot of movies/games/music just after downloading and then finding that it deserved my money.
Make it impossible to return movies/games and people would just download them off the piratebay and pay for only which they like.

The leaked beta is 32bit only.
It'd probably be less stupid to just not break the law.
There, corrected for you.

Make everyone a criminal and then catch only those that you want?
Nope. Don't see anything wrong with that.
>>and the PC begins with Microsoft.
WTF does that suppose to mean? Microsoft was ONE of the many vendors who wrote OS for IBM's toy.
GSM phones have no ESN. IMEI is the keyword you are looking for.

You summed it all up better than anyone in the entire discussion could.
This is nothing but a cry for how xxx technology is being used by xxx group (pirates/terrorists) and therefore, the technology is bad.
