Do you know how little of AT&T's network is actually UMTS? 1 guess 4 u: it's not along any of the roads where you need the multi-tower eavesdropping.

Further, have you read anything about WCDMA lately because if you had you would know it's still time division. You can't have towers eaves dropping on time division signals because the cell modem has to modulate the signal timing to account for the velocity of travel. Code division doesn't require this. Time division does since the time window to transmit is so small.

I call bullshit. We should all know the marketing definition of "unlimited" by now.

yeah, but it works from the tech perspective. You can cram 30-40x the cellular connections into the same chunk of frequency with CDMA that you can with GSM. I know that data is different than voice but the fact is that CDMA is a significantly more efficient use of spectrum than GSM-- it's one of the reasons you never have dropped calls with Verizon, but do with AT&T: the europeans, in their infinite wisdom, decided with GSM that a cell would be connected to only one tower. With code division multiplexing, other towers can easily listen in and pick up the call if you drop from one tower. GSM can't do that.

That and it's terribly slow. When I want to check websites, I check five. I type one press enter, then CTRL+T, and then start typing. But by tab 3, Firefox is too busy rendering to bother returning the URL results in any timely fashion. I can usually finish typing the url before it's found a result for me.

I credit this to the thugs in charge with superiority complexes who refuse to admit something is wrong and needs fixing.
Opera&Chrome are supremely smoother. One of these days I will just jump ship to Opera. I just don't want to have to learn yet another new interface.

Firefox, good luck, the entire browser chugs to a grinding halt for 10 seconds, then the next 10 seconds it's hitchy but at least responsive.
This is on a quad-core machine running at 3.5ghz. Chrome maxes out all of my cores to 100% and is done rendering in about 4 seconds, AND it's rendering all the ads that are being blocked by adblock. Firefox never uses more than 30%. Bad programming. Opera doesn't use more than 30% at once either, but the user interface is incredibly responsive.

They kept it around past that because "fighting back" was how CLU gets stronger, kinda like how it works with violence. If that doesn't make sense, no sweat, I just tried to enjoy it anyways.

This movie could better be called Daft Punk the movie featuring TRON, than the other way around. Nonetheless, I loved the soundtrack. There's only 4-5 songs from it that I really like though, the rest were clearly soundtrack-music and thus not really worth listening to again. For those interested, go check out End of Line, Derezzed, Disc Wars, Tron Legacy (End Titles) and Castor. This last one fit in the movie a lot better because there was other stuff going on (club scene), simply listening to it it's a little bit more boring.

I think one thing this movie could have done with a little bit more of was hand-to hand combat. There were a few snippets with Quorra fighting, but not much actual battling. Seems like more would have been appropriate, certainly exciting.

Lastly, the lightcycles were AWESOME. Be warned, if you're a fellow motorcycle rider, seeing this movie will make you want to go do badass stuff IRL :) so don't!

I just upgraded my Opera 10 installation; I have about 20-25 tabs that I start when I decide to check the internet; forums, blogs, email, facebook, etc.
Firefox grinds to a halt for about 10 seconds, and takes a total of about 20 seconds to render all of them, max CPU usage on my quad core is about 28% when I'm not doing anything else with my computer. Keep in mind this is with Adblock enabled.

Chrome maxes all 4 cores to 100% for a few seconds and then it's completely done rendering. No adblock.

Opera still only hits ~30% CPU, so it's not using much more than 1 core as well. However, it manages to complete almost as fast as Chrome. Not sure how they've managed this. Very fast I must say. And the interface doesn't grind to a halt like Firefox's, it definitely appears to be capable of prioritizing mouse-click events on the fly (to change tabs for instance).

All that said I still use Firefox on my desktop, and can't wait till they get true multi-core support.
Opera definitely has a chance on my netbook though.

Similar to what WBUR does. They schedule a week long fundraiser with a goal. Then before the fundraiser they start telling people "the fund raiser ends when we reach our goal".... now they are starting to even let people donate towards that goal before the fundraiser starts!

Ever since they staryed doing this, maybe 2 years ago? The fundraisers have been... reaching their goals and getting shorter! I think, at this point, they have nearly cut them in half!

Could create paid subscriptions with a value add. Maybe some new features that are a bit server intensive or require storage... like letting you keep a set of private annotations on pages, or a real time chat feature.

Look at OKCupid. There are many "A-List" members, even though the majority, and indeed the most important basic functions of the site, are all available for free.
