  1. Re:I've got to say, I agree with this post on Where Have All the Pagers Gone? · · Score: 1

I'm not so sure that you have been using a cell very well then. My friends and myself know how to click one button to silence our phone. We can literary look at our phone make a decision and click a button to silence the incoming phone call. All in the course of a few seconds.

Also we have a silence or vibrate feature that makes our phone make a whole lot less noise when we need to not be disturbed. I've gotten it down so while I'm in my classes I have it set to vibrate and when someone forgets that I'm in class I can see who it is, silence the call so it goes to voice mail much faster. After I get out of class I can check if they left a voice mail and/or call them back.

Plus with texting I hit the same button and it stops making any noise and any vibrations. Pretty simple while I'm busy, in class, or don't want to talk.

Also the true silence mode where it makes no noise or vibrations at all. This is all relatively easy and I've only owned my own cell for about four years now. Both of the different models I've had have had such similar button layouts that I did not have to adapt or change much. Plus my new one lets me look at a text message on the outside screen for quick and easy reading.

  10. Re:Fantastic on End of the Internet's Tax-Free Ride? · · Score: 1

I think the only way that a tax like this could ever work without many headaches would be to have a flat tax on all internet purchases. Lets say that they end up doing this for all online retailers and the federal government would collect it all then distribute it out to all the states. So say they have a 5% tax for anything sold online. Lets say the federal government collects all of it and then dishes it out to the states, and keeps part of it. Say they keep 2%, then the states divide up the 3% to them and the local counties that make up the state. Say the State keeps half of what they are given and the other half is divided up and given to the counties. Dividing it up between population would work for determining how much each state would receive. So California would so much because of its population, while Alaska would get an equal portion based on its own population.

I think that many people would stop selling online (such as mom and pop shops) if they had to file for every state they shipped any sort of product. I know I would never want to do that sort of work unless it was the only part of my business (say amazon and musicians friend)

I get the cost part but still does not give you very nice security. Anything on the internet is quite open to anyone who works enough and knows what they are doing. So the point of security over employee friendliness becomes an issue you should sit down and think well what would happen if this happened, or this or that?

All I'm saying is even for the cost and ease of use of having it connected to the Internet the security for something like a power grid still out weighs it.

I'm kinda confused by this too, why is the power grid on the Internet? Seems like a very illogical thing to do in my opinion. I think they would have two networks in each building, one for the power grid computers and controls and one for anything that needs access to the Internet. If something has to be transmitted to another building either they need to lay down some sort of infrastructure or use SneakerNet...
