In terms of current gen console market share, it's PS2 -> Xbox -> GCN in worldwide numbers. The shear amount of sales of PS2s (92 million, so far) is what's giving it so many titles, and in turn making current titles much, MUCH cheaper. This is by far my favorite thing about owning a PS2, and is why I'll get a PS3, since it will retain it's predecessor's market share lead.
No, Nintendo most likely won't take the lead. I'd be willing to bet they'll stay in 3rd place, losing market share even.
I, for one, won't be buying any console for a while since PS2 games will be so cheap (and most already are) that I can enjoy a ridiculously uncostly gaming habit, putting my money from work into better places (like university...).
When I do get a console, it'll be a PS3, no question. Call me a bandwagoner if you want, but it, without question, will be the best selling console next gen. This means more games will go to it, those games will become cheaper faster, and it will stand most likely to have more games in the genres I like (RPGs, strategy-rpgs, fighters, and... MGS games).
It'll probably be more reason for cash straped people will opt for the Nintendo Revolution rather then the more expensive options that are PS3 and X360.

If they can do A (with root like implementations), and start using standards in their products rather then their proprietary crap, then yes, I would consider it a "real" OS.
Obviously he doesn't agree that it was that great, nor do I, so it is up for debate.
I see it like this: as an FPS, is was sub-par.
As a first person adventure game (which is what it was marketed as), it's pretty original.
As an adventure game, it's above-par.
I didn't like it overall, and I find that too many Nintendo games are herald as if they were some diety. You can like it if you want, but don't say it's not up for debate because it clearly is.
I agree, they would probably be better off delaying their launch. They seem to be riding on beating PS3 to launch at all costs, which won't really help them much as history as shown us (Saturn, Dreamcast anyone?).
I would have been predicting this anyway if Sony started advertising really early, but once news of this gets out few people will buy X360 at launch. I'd expect a really bare launch sales.
Not only that, this functionility will probably have one of the following effects: 1) causing some games to be HD-DVD only, pissing off a lot of people or 2) not effecting the games at all, which is pretty bad as well since the extra space could be very useful for devs.
I was really hoping we wouldn't have to keep SAG voice actors in games. If they weren't in games, less people would buy shitty franchise games (and less would be made), games would be cheaper to produce, and we we'll be guarenteed never to have to suffer through a J-Lo game...
Assuming it was included, the best boss battle in the past year was by far the sniper battle with The End in Metal Gear Solid 3. That battle was pure genius.
The design doesn't have to be the one DS uses. The PSP's screen has a higher resolution then DS' combined, and it could very well have been made touchscreen. The design for a PDA also applies here.
I've never heard anyone say that the touchscreen was the gimick. Almost everyone I've spoken to in message boards and in real life say that 2 screens is extremely gimmicky and unneccesary.
I've seen almost unanimous decision that 1 big touch screen, equal to or more then the size of 2 small ones is better then 2 small ones with one as a touchscreen. The fact is that 2 small screens are limiting, especially when there's a barrier between them, and if they really wanted to devs can split up a large screen into halfs, or even with a map in the corner to completely out-do a 2 screen setup.
I agree with the Hayter part. He does look quite a bit like Snake, if you look at a picture of him: http://www.chud.com/graphics3/hayter.jpg
So it's entirely possible that he could play Snake...
After a ton of people complaining about crappy hollywood movies, far too many bad sequals, and superhero movies, this is their plan to bring back movie-goers? If history has taught me anything, all these video game movies will be horrible, and not worth seeing. The only one I think has any hope is a Metal Gear Solid movie, and that would only be good if directed by Kojima.
Well actually LCS is set to come out Sept. 1st. Death Jr, while not exactly a killer app, comes out pretty soon and looks pretty good.
I agree though, that the flow of games is unsteady. This should pick up soon enough, the fall and winter schedule looks to have a lot of games at once.
It's not so much that this version breaks hacks... hacks haven't worked on 1.51 or 1.52. Sony probably did put new measures of security on this, though.
Hopefully this firmware gets hacked soon, as I'm sure there's a lot of people who'd like to get back to playing Chrono Trigger on their PSPs.
It's easier, faster, and makes the game look better if it's focused on one console. Porting the game to X360 wouldn't be wourth it, as they'd make more money just selling it on PS2. Same goes for porting it to GCN or XBX.
This is especially true for PS2. To make something look great on PS2 it really has to make good use of the console, which is obscure in archetecture. Porting away from this archetecture takes time, effort, whatever, and while it would be good fan service, it's a lot easier for them to focus on one console and the one with 91 million sold is an easy choice (a 65 million console lead on the nearest competitor).
Doesn't Microsoft consider the launch titles to be any title released within a few months of release? If that's the case, it looks like a pretty bare launch.
I'm kinda suprised that article had such a large bit on the side for Koichi Sugiyama. As a North American Dragon Quest fan, I really do find his work is extremely under-apriciated. Most of it is absolutely beautiful stuff. In fact, I was playing Dragon Warrior 7 one day and my... less then half-senile grandmother was extremely impressed by the music of the game.
In case of install, break Windows.
In case of using IE, break Windows.
In case of using Outlook Express, break windows.
In case of buying a new graphics card, break windows.
In case of using it for a couple months, break windows.
It seems like whenever a Microsoft employee speaks they generalize Linux into a huge ball, never mention a distro, and say it's bad. Surely this distro is not using RPM or Apt, which many distros are based on, and surely it is not Gentoo with portage. I also don't think they quite understand how Linux works in that things aren't breaking when the end user is too stupid to configure the program.
It's as if Microsoft made their own distro, coaxed it with unstable software from 5 years ago, give it no package managemnet, and say "this is all Linux is!". Ugh, it's enough to drive a sane man crazy.

Uh, PS3 also has slots for Compact Flash and SD, so your point is now moot.

If I remember correctly, while % wise it sold better on GCN, the game in real numbers sold much better on PS2.
