Not before my time. Heck I remember using Archie/Gopher and Lynx in college:-)
I remember using Lycos and Excite. Then along came AltaVista and it was the best search engine ever... that is until Google came out and blew everyone away. Sure there were others like Hotbot that came and went. Yahoo was originally a hand picked directory of websites. I never had any luck with AskJeeves. Dogpile basically compiled searches from other search engines and directories so that is why I don't consider it a search engine.
Wow that might make some of us...err not me, feel old.
I wonder what the average slashdot age is around here. Meaning, are many "old timers" still around? How long the typical person stays active on/.? etc etc
As I understand it Google's side of the story is they said something because Acer is a member of the Open Handset Alliance. Amazon is not a member of the AHA therefore Google hasn't said a thing to them.
I like it alot. I had to disable the touchpad but I always do that on laptops too. I have the silverish/bluish one so I'm not sure it comes in a true blue color.
I just got the latest Transformer (Infinity). The optional keyboard w/ battery is definitely a great form factor. I believe Lenovo has one coming out and Asus has announced at least one Win8 version.
I just got the new version (Infinity) with the optional keyboard/battery. It is definitely the right form factor. Asus has a winner on their hands. They have announced a Win8 version so they will have the "other" tablet market covered. Heck, I think Lenovo announced a tablet w/ optional keyboard w/o battery.
You seem to think the university systems were specifically created to educate people in a chosen field so they may join the workforce.
There was a time not so long ago when people went to college/university to become well rounded in many areas so then they could determine what their interests were.
Metro on the desktop is fine if it is run as an app and has a dedicated monitor.:-) The desktop in Win8 should be full featured with Metro as an option. I can see Metro being used for kiosks maybe
Typical MS coming out with something totally new is that it always feels half baked. There is a reason why many people believe MS doesn't get things right until (at least) the third version.
Metro on the phones and tablets is another discussion entirely.
This is one of the reasons I left Sprint. I gave them two years (bought an EVO 4G the day they came out) and they did nothing but change for the worse.
It was like like Lucy holding the football for Charlie Brown. Well I'm no Charlie Brown, you can only yank the ball away from me once... maybe twice.;-)
Yes, people with jobs. Jobs in corporations, government, education, etc. Communications in the business world are not conducted via FB messages/IM and SMS. You may think email is quickly dying but I can assure you it is not. Don't let your personal/social life perspective mislead you.
Let the consumer decide. Provide each customer with bundle and a la carte options. That way they know what each channel costs and can choose accordingly. It isn't like the technology doesn't exist to offer this. We canceled cable/sattelite almost a year ago. Services like Netflix and Hulu+ along with the Internet are just fine for our needs.
People and corporations ned to be accountable. No more hiding behind a corporate identity. The fact is corporations are made up of people. People making decisions and people taking actions. The people that made the decision to break the law as well as those that did the law breaking should do jail time. The corporation should also be significantly punished (most likely monetary).
What makes Apple's behavior so wrong and destructive is that they copy liberally from others and then turn around and try to monopolize the market with bad patents.

That is a low number you go there old timer. Heck I think I always had a login so that may have happened sooner.
How many userIDs do you have? The one you are using is too high to be from "day one".
BTW - only one of the sites mentioned in your post is a search engine. The other two are not search engines.
Not your actual age. Your Slashdot age. I've probably been here 13-14 years.

Read into it yourself YMMV.
If he had been around awhile he would have known that when you hear "write once & run anywhere" that it may not be all it claims to be.

What about sharing their rejected app with friends and family?

and first impressions.
It is a case of Form over function vs. Function over form

Agreed. One party with two marketing campaigns.
Uh no. I am sure the MS plan is to get SBS customers to migrate to their online/cloud version of SBS ...Office 365.

It is stuff like this that makes it obvious the US is run by one party with two marketing departments.
How about resolving all requests to the IP of a web server with a single page explaining the issue to them?
and THIS!
