The last piece of the puzzle has fallen into place. We now have the technology against the impending Kaiju attacks. Wait, how does a nuclear reactor get used as a nuclear bomb again?
Because writers are dumb and audiences will hoot for anything that goes boom. Or... very, very bad nuclear engineers.
Change for the sake of change is expensive and many of us prefer Windows 7. My system runs 10 but after the latest update fiasco I don't blame users to keep 7 and older hardware if they don't need to upgrade. It just works and works well.
All my systems are used or hand-me-downs from friends, though I typically upgrade them when I get them - usually by maxing out the RAM. I currently have the following hand-me-downs: a Dell XPS 420 w/8GB RAM running Windows 7, Dell Inspiron 530 w/8GB RAM running Windows 10, a Lenovo H420 w/16 GB RAM (vendor says max is 8GB) running Ubuntu 16.04 desktop; and a used Dell T110 w/32GB RAM running Ubuntu 16.04 server (at the moment).
So it's not enough that Google tracks you via web browsing, Android phones, search queries, gmail, etc. Now they want you to use their DNS so they can track EVERY connection you make over the Internet, regardless of whether it originates from one of their products.
To be fair, unless you're running your own DNS server, someone is already processing, and probably tracking, all your DNS requests, be it Google, Cloudflare (another thing to disable in Firefox - thanks Mozilla), your ISP, etc... depending on your network settings. I currently use my ISP (Cox) as my primary DNS resolver with Google's 8.8.8.8 as my secondary. I'm sure Cox logs and retains stuff (some of it as the law requires). Granted, using Google as your DNS resolver would give them *another* data set to track you with.
I'm using fake IDs and misinformation all the time.
Just curious, I thought I'd heard that possessing a "false or fake ID" was illegal...if not on a federal level, maybe it is only some states' levels?
I'm just curious if this is true....
Don't know about the other poster, but I meant a fake student ID... at least at this stupid cafe. Turning away non-student/faculty (potential) customers who would pay actual money seems dumb.
As long as everyone understands that there is another price being paid (other than cash), I don't have a problem with this.
I'm pretty sure the value of one's personal info far exceeds any amount of "free" coffee in the long run, especially as students will eventually graduate and, then, be denied more coffee, while some (most?) of their personal info remains useful. This is one case where a fake ID would really come in handy...
What happened to simply choosing the best candidate for the job instead of meeting quotas?
Qualifications for Board member are usually being rich (and often white and male) and someone who can offer the company some sort of status and/or influence. It's not unusual for people to be on the Board of several companies at the same time. It's like a social club and not really about any sort merit in the sense the rest of us would use. The "best candidate" is simply whoever the other Board members, and/or majority shareholder(s), want.
Furthermore it is now required to have at least one moron, one down syndrome, one bozo the clown, one batman, one hippie, one street-sweeper, one biker, one dog and one skeleton on the board.
Merits are overrated according to people without merit.
Seems to work for the Whitehouse, why not Wall Street...:-)
Sure, but I've actually seen people swiping away on their smartphones while riding (and, also, walking their dogs - which makes me sad for the dogs) and I just think they're future Darwin Award winners...
I didn't like it when Ubuntu integrated Amazon searches into their launcher.
One of the first things I do on a Windows box is disable Cortana and the integrated web searching.
Yup, same.
Why? Because if I wanted a damn internet search, I'd open my browser and search the internet.
Agreed, but then you might not use Bing (and/or MS servers) and they wouldn't be able to spy on you.
When I open the search function on my OS, I want it to search my local system.
Not only will it search for all kind of things, probably using MS servers for help, even when all you want is a filename, but it will be actively monitoring your activities, also probably using MS servers. From TFS (emphasis mine):
The company also is "supercharging" the search box so that users can more easily find people, related content, commands for apps and more before they actually start typing in the search box, as it will be contextually aware and offer proactive search results and suggestions.
I'd like to file this under: Do Not Want.
And, knowing MS, any blocking you might employ will disable search altogether.

That Purple Haze - its all in your brain. It’s just that lately things don’t seem the same.
Purple Haze is also the S1, E10 episode of Eureka

Good luck. In the land of consumer electronics, things that old need to be carbon dated.

Can't wait for the FDA to make that assumption about cancer ...
They already do. Chemotherapy drugs, for instance, are bad for you. They are better than cancer though.
Radiotherapy too for that matter.
Ya, I know all about Chemo/Radiotherapy ... Remember Sue...
[ But, my joke and your commentary aren't really about the same things. ]

When you are 90 year old, your 24 year old ninja girlfriend is a necrophiliac, not nymphomaniac.
To be fair, she be both - and desperately in need of therapy.

Very, very carefully.
If all the antimatter ever made by humans were annihilated at once, the energy produced would be just about enough to make a cup of tea.
Or, at the very least, something almost, but not quite entirely unlike tea.

That's a weird name for a minecraft server website. Was it "Fraud.com" or ".org"? :-)

This problem has troubled physics for the past half-century...
This "problem" is why we are here. How about not calling the existence of the universe a "problem"?
Different kind of problem. (from Google):
