Actually, I think most people here (minus those who'd abolish copyright altogether) would agree with you. The RIAA and similar companies are bloated and corrupt, no one deserves to make millions of dollars for derivative trash, those who just distribute said trash certainly don't deserve it, copyright does need to be reformed, etc.

Yes, after I posted that, I remembered webcomics which do both of the things you describe, but then I figured in practice art for the sake of art and crowdsourcing investment is already covered in open source.

No there is no right to profit, but what does that have to do with companies who try to make it easier to make a profit not grantee a profit, or what I wrote which is trying to figure out the other ways that content creators can make money?

Pray tell, why are you so pissy about this?

...What slip are you referring to?

There's the old(er) way where rich people payed people commission to do a myriad of art. That doesn't help the people (video game makers/novelists/programmers/all of the tv and movie industry) who need/want many people to pay a pittance. There's the make money off concerts (and I guess merchandise) route, which might work for some form of media like music, but doesn't help the aforementioned groups. And of course there's open source which has a few examples of profitability. Have I missed any?

Hmm? From what I've seen as a user of both bittorrent and eMule (the major client that uses KAD), the reason the latter is slow is not because of decentralizing, but because of a different philosophy in data sharing. With bitorrent you only share a file if you're trying to finish a download, or seeding. In eMule one shares dozens or even hundreds of files not related to the thing(s) you're trying to get. Bittorrent only shares data relevant to a persons download relatively quickly, and eMule shares lots of files slowly so one can get a larger variety of files (eventually).

Unfortunately, eMule has become less popular thanks to file sharing sites like rapidshare. Well, at least that's my guess.

I rather doubt the article calculated after school learning. I can only speak for Japan (and well S. Korea which isn't on the list), but it's pretty much accepted there that in order to succeed parents must send their kids to a myriad of after school programs. These range from just homework help, to advanced material the public school isn't teaching an age group. I've young (10+) cousins who end up coming home around 8pm sometimes even as late as midnight all because they've around 3-4 extra tutoring places they go to each day.

I don't read any shock in IANAAC, just disgust and annoyance. Even when someone is used to the general assholishness of the net, it's still possible to wage a personal war on certain irritants. I for example have attacked people who believe any criticism on a work of art is an attack on the creator and them. It works on occasion as long as you're calm and polite.

Anyway, you kind of miss my point. If we shouldn't be affected by random crass comments (which are also rather cliche), then the inevitable responses shouldn't be a bother either. A short of "get over it" to the guy saying "get over it" I guess heh.

KoL is certainly not a game I'd recommend to most people. Most enjoyment seem to come from the humor (course you need a strong background in American pop culture), and the fact that it's simplistic nature means new content can be added relatively quickly. As for me, I play using KoLMafia, but do new content manually through the browser. Yea, w/o the bot (Don't worry folks! KoL only gives a limited amount of turns per day, so botting is permitted by the creator.), I would have quit years ago.

Check out the reviews for the thenth book "Crossroads of Twilight" link. People absolutely loathed the book. Many wished to give zero star ratings, but couldn't since one star is the lowest Amazon allows. The eleventh book got something like 3.0-3.5 stars if memory serves, but like the other response says, I'm almost positive it's because Jordan was feeling rushed. Generally speaking showing sex is ok as long as it's missionary position, vaginal, between a man and woman, and shows little besides the mans chest, and perhaps a little side boob. I recommend watching the movie "This Film Is Not Yet Rated" if you have the time. It does only deal with sex in films, but most of it's points also work for television.

Of course both were mentioned in a rather sanitized manner. Which is how BSG delt with genocide oddly enough. On the other hand, I've never seen a child die let alone murdered in mass media (even childrens books which do deal with death would shy away from murder). I can certainly understand why the parent would be bothered by one but not the other.

Hell, most folks would consider Star Trek to be ok for older kids. That show had genocide/extinction (mostly depending on how you interpret the actions of people who follow the Prime Directive), but no child killing.
