... and I feel bad for me because now I have to use Windows to play games:(
A quote from the article said that the one good thing that came out of Loki was the friendships. Friendships are good, but I think he forgot about the games. Boy, they did some great work over there while they lasted....
Does anybody else wonder who these people are, and what are the odds of having them shut down for good?
I've been wondering who the "known criminals are for many years. If you know who these dastardly no-goods are, please respond to this message and put my mind at ease. Thank you.
course, if you want to eschew microsoft, you can buy Appleworks for less than 1/4 the price of Office v.X, the only thing you dont get is PowerPoint.
Actually, AppleWorks 6 comes with a presentation module, although I haven't had a chance to try it out yet so I can't tell you how much it rocks or blows.
The good news: the iBook comes with the VGA adapter.
The bad news: the iBook only supports video mirroring (the same image on both the LCD and monitor), and you can't use ONLY the external monitor; the iBook must be open (and thus the LCD on) in order to use an external monitor.
Yeah, the software costs were what I had in mind, and I have to admit also that I was specifically thinking about software at least as functional as iTunes (with auto-sync and all that) for both platforms. I guess it could be pretty inexpensive if your definition of "supports" is "can be made to work with":^)
Remember, he also wants Firewire AND win/mac compatability, so maybe $549. But I'll give you the benefit of the doubt for the sake of argument accept $449.
People are screaming and crying about the iPod at $399. By the time something like this comes to market, XPod (or whatever it's called these days), will probably have already been out for three months. Nearly everyone who wanted something like this would already have gotten an iPod. So the only thing the new device would have going for it is USB. How many people do you know who would rather spend $449 on this new device for USB support when they could buy an iPod and a Firewire card for the same price or lower?
So, okay, maybe not $599, but still, no one would buy it and it would never become the "volume product" you think it would.
There is a very high incidence of people attempting to cast multiple votes, even though the poll script blocked out most attempts at multiple voting. The one that wins the prize made 228 attempts to vote. This person was from within the microsoft.com domain
228 votes from a single user there? That's not being a pro-MS worker. That's having some sort of incentive.
I think we all know who it was. I can't stop imagining one particular CEO on his executive chair with his pants around his ankles clicking the vote button repeatedly and screaming, "I love this company!"
Of course, it was exactly cutting out the middlemen that allows Apple to cut these kinds of huge deals now. It's not likely anything of this scale could have been negotiated by a reseller.
OS X was supposed to be groundbreaking and all that. Keep it for posterity, at least...
OS X was groundbreaking, but OS X 10.1 is actually usable. I don't feel the need to subject my children and their children to a slow, incompletely implemented operating system.
At least, keep it until you KNOW that it isn't required for the 10.1 install...
Yes, I am a fool. That was a total brainfart on my part. Mea culpa. But self-flagellation aside, the point of my post was to point out a (possibly) legitimate use of this "crack." I won't use the information from MacFixIt to install an illegal instance of the software; rather, the information saves me from my own stupidity.
I, for one, am glad for this "crack." I paid my $20 to get my update CD. For some reason, I assumed the CD contained a full install of X 10.1 (probably because it was so big), so after installing I tossed my original X 10.0 CDs. If I ever need to reformat my hard drive, I'm dead in the water without this little piece of useful information. All I can say is, "Thank you MacFixIt!"
Yes, you can represent a tree in a relational database, but there is no mechanism in SQL to query on or return trees, and there is no tree datatype. I believe that's the author's point.
If you don't mind paying for them, you can check out tuxgames.com or linuxcentral.com.
If, on the other hand, you're just looking for a free ride, well, you're on your own....

What Mandrake should do is allow people to upgrade to the Silver level for exactly the diff between Standard and Silver ($60). Problem solved :)
...three-hundred ninety-five dollars for something that can't even kill someone? Yikes!

Leave him alone. It's his last good T-shirt and he doesn't want to let it go.

Also, AppleWorks costs $0.00 with an iBook.

why won't someone else use the 1.8" drive and make a player that is Win/Mac compatible (natively) that has Firewire AND USB?!
Because it would cost $599 and no one would buy it.
He may be a troll, but at least he spelled "linuces" correctly. Gotta give him points for that.
228 would have been low for a script. If I wrote a ballot stuffing script that only made 228 attempts, I'd be hanging my head in shame.

- Show me the laptop that can burn DVDs.
- Show me the laptop with a G4 processor and 15" screen for $1299.

The AC above isn't a troll here...
Read the body of his message and reconsider.

So your computer + 6 NICs == 1 commercial router.
What was your point again?
"Sounds like microsoft's future security plans may depend more on legislation than on code audits."
Make that "past and future."
If it's real, then why (under the "details" link) does the AirPort Base Station have a mushroom stem?
Here's a question: Does that broad wording at the end actually weaken the patent claim, since it opens itself up to a larger range of prior art?
Embrace and Extend only works if you're a monopoly.
