I'm a highly antisocial gamer, I play all my MMO's prettymuch solo save for any real-life friends that I know are playing. MMO's are about dominance especially now with WoW and their PvP rank system. A lot of people whine about the monthly subscription rate but again, I'm pretty sure if you are buying relatively new console games, I am paying less for my gaming experiance than you are...

You have two very different types of gamer demographics: MMO players and console gamers. MMO players tend to dedicate massive amounts of time to their game (tend to... there are a few exceptions). Console gamers... while some do play a lot many are casual or play in bursts. Consoles let you do that. You can save your game, turn off the console and walk away. Also bear in mind until just recently consoles did not allow for networked play, much less internet play.

I think microsoft will be successful but they do realize they are hitting up a different demographic then the typical PC gamer.

Not hard to do, less than 15 minutes of tweaking after installing windows will do it. I dont have a firewall, or adware/spyware/virus software. Use Firefox if it makes you feel safer but IE works fine too... stop the fud, Windows is a mature OS and XP with the default firewall/automatic updates can hold its own.

Don't make assumptions. I do simulation programming under linux using multiple rather large API's, in c++. When you don't have IntelliSense... grep is your friend. If you forget the syntax either (a) reference the (online/printed) documentation or (b) alt-tab to the next console and grep for the header definition.

And it all comes back to the argument that you should *study* the API before you start to program in it. you should know the precidence of common arguments, IE, in graphics layouts does x come first or y? etc. Having to assign x= and y= is redundant. It was already declared in the header, you should have read it, or the documentation documenting it.

But the truth is Apache and Firefox are made by two different companies. Two different companies teaming up and not allowing a third vendor in is wrong, at least here in the US. If Firefox was allowed to "buy in" to the protocols of Apache to allow flawless integration, Microsoft must be allowed to do so too, at the same going rate.

Difference in this case is Microsoft owns all products in question, they can have proprietary protocols between their own software. If they make protocols available to outside companies, they have to make the entry barrier the same for everyone.
