Imagine if the universe had a shell. The shell is past the distance we can see. The outside of this shell is gravitationally downward. (maybe imagine a charged metal shpere, place a positively charged particle in the middle, and it will "fall" toward the shell) We would see everything accelerating toward that shell.
So, I'm saying, what if the universe is expanding toward something larger outside it. Could this explain dark energy?
It is apparent that, discounting the money, the Pearl job will be more fun than the.NET job for a variety of reasons (impact on final product, comradarie, respect, just plain fun, etc). Compute, in whatever way serves you (possibly a scale from 1 to 10) the difference in happiness (call it delta-h, if you wish) between the two jobs.
Now, rate the happiness that having more money will give (less debt, higher discretionary budget, respect, likely that future jobs will also get you more money, etc). Compute the delta-h for money.
Which delta-h was higher, money or fun? You decide.
First of all, I agree with the other post; I have seen nobody claim firefox itself to have invented any of their features, specifically. Second, not all the innovation lies with the actual browser, it's the whole system. Most of the coolest things are the plugins (just take a look at greasemonkey, googlefool, flashblock, and many, many more).
I had a similar story. Whedon does some really amazing stuff. If you watch Buffy, it's quite good, too (if you can get past the bad acting in the first couple of seasons, and the teen love stories don't make you sick).
Whedon has five remarkable talents (in my opinion): he lets the audio/video artists really do their stuff and he expiriments, he is quite witty, his character developments are amazing, his foresight for serialization is unmatched, and he really understands how to write female characters. If you watch seasons 1 through 5 straight through, you'll see what I mean - wow.

Agreed - I am somewhat on an inside track, and I know the beta testers have not yet received the beta because it is not completely finalized. Also, Avalon (which this article is mostly about) is not going to be part of this beta; it's going to have "backend" stuff like Indigo, which normal users really won't see, and screenshots cannot show.
On expressivity... <rant mood="annoyed"> I am a new to Java and as a student, I have found some things just silly. Of course, I've been working with console apps for just starting out. Now... write a method that does cls. I hade to just print 25 "\n"s to do that - it's not what I wanted. Second, write a "Press any key to continue." method. For this, I had to do a "Press [Enter]..." because there is no way to get keystroke information at the console. This seems just silly. </rant>
When it auto-inserts a quote, you can just type right over it. If you type a quote and it's already their, it just overwrites it...
You type:
String name = "Doogie
What appears:
String name = "Doogie"
You continue typing:
";
What apears:
String name = "Doogie";
It just lets you flow right over it. I find it nice.

I hate MS, their security sucks so bad. They're always getting virii!
A Mac user that uses a mouse that has more than one button would be a good start.

One step closer to Googlezon".
Well, they may be able to say half a billion to the Americans, but the Brits may have a problem with that.

When the hell did /. turn into a celebrity gossip site? News for nerds? Really?

Dupealicious! :-
That is a great point; I hadn't even thought of that
Yes, but think of all the schools/govt agencies/large businesses that have all Dells on their desktops.
Does Apple really sell as much (volume-wise) as Dell does?

Mr. "Senior Programmer" Your comment is not standards compliant. It's called ECMAScript.
Can you send that LISP book to me, then? I've been meaning to get around to learning. :-)
This is why I have to post with a 0 instead of a 1. They like to do that.
