The climate has been in equilibrium for millions of years. There is no tipping point. My suggestion to people wringing their hands about climate change; understand the real problem, that there is not going to be any more fossil fuels to convert to CO2 in the near future. That will be a bigger calamity than a few centimeters of sea level. Food sources? We're already burning food now, just wait until we run out of oil.
What you need to do is get the right amount of meta-data. Everyone is going to be pushing you to add all kinds of fields for everything, you need to push for less. The metric should be that 80% of the information should be one or two clicks away, the next 15% should be 3-5 clicks away, let the last 5% go. If you try to make everything one click away you are going to fail.
How about a back seat that is fit for a human? I can't understand why we have always used standard American sedans, where the back seat is an afterthought, for our taxis. Isn't the fundamental concept of a taxi for the passenger? Why not purpose-built taxis like London that were designed for people to get in and out and sit in relative comfort? Screw technology, meet the fundamental problem statement first.
Reagan cut the maximum tax rate from well over 50% down to 33%. This was brilliant, get out of the way of people who make lots of money, they make money flow better than anyone else. He didn't step in and stop the Democrats from pushing money all their pet projects, so that made money flow too. Lots of money flowing, half of it borrowed. Success?
The US has the best education on the planet. Why do I say this? because our system continues to produce innovators that the rest of the world envies. We do this in spite of the push to standardized tests or making everything a team project. We need to stop trying to downgrade our education to match countries who continue to pump out people who can only do what they are told.
When I was in grade school it was called "New Math" and everybody freaked out that we were learning Venn diagrams instead of multiplication tables. If they had more real CS concepts in school then eventually we might get fewer people who think a spreadsheet is a database, this can only be good.
Copyright is an agreement between two people; one person offering a product for a particular price that includes promise not to copy, the person who buys the product agrees to the price and the promise, even though it is exceedingly easy to copy and there is next to no chance he will get caught if he does. If the person then goes off and copies then he has broken the agreement, this is wrong no matter how you slice it, call it illegal, immoral, whatever, it is wrong.
The Gulf War took out the murderous tyrant Saddam Hussein, who launched two wars of agression, and killed thousands of of people who simply disagreed with him. So it did have another purpose.
The American sells his abstract fish paintings in a high end art store. The Chinese sell their identical fish paintings in a souvenir shop next door.

He could start charging Facebook users. Then he could afford better servers.
Marijuana makes you stupid, and it makes you write exceedingly inane song lyrics. We need less of this in America.

The Law does not deal in trifles.
They probably had a bad formula in an Excel spreadsheet. I'm sure it looked good with merged cells, colors, borders and such.

Gas and diesel fuel cost the same in Europe as in the US, it is the tax that is different.

Murderous tyrants can breathe easier now that we have a hand wringer for president.
