I don't run Adobe and generally don't use the internet with Windows, so I'm not too worried.
Even if I did catch a virus, I would never be comfortable with my OS after the fact and would replace it anyways. There are so many advantages to keeping my data separated from my OS by partitioning.
Also, I've seen virus behavior that is much more benign than any anti-virus software. Slow systems, "hey an update ran now my computer won't boot", anti-virus generally causes more trouble than it's worth.
I can see this directly leading to Google becoming very slightly less popular for search. There were many good reasons to use AltaVista back in its day..
I don't care for Gnome too much, I think it's over-simplified for desktop use. Unity seems to go further in that direction, but I could see that being the "right" direction for small devices.
For getting work done, I'll continue to prefer KDE.
I think this begs the question, why does anyone believe that government goons would be more capable at managing a network than the private IT goons who built it?
1) The average weight of people going into this courthouse in Florida is unusually high. 2) Most of the time, the "bad area" identified by the machine was in the ribcage area. To me, it looked like the system generated a boatload of false positives.
I hate to say it, but you should probably stick with Windows.
As a business, running Windows apps under Wine sounds like a constant headache that could leave you dead in the water. Even if everything works today, who knows what tomorrows patches will bring?
From a cost and administrative standpoint, it's probably cheaper to buy the extra Windows licenses than to support and maintain a third OS anyways.
I think it's an interesting feature that might help Cotendo stand out among the pack. Don't use them if this kind of feature bothers you. But if the changes don't introduce any bugs and your website loads faster for it, why would you possibly take that as a bad thing?
My girlfriend watches Netflix all the time while I'm neglecting her for some TF2 action. I've never noticed a problem whatsoever on my 7mbit down, 0.5mbit up cable connection. On the other hand, bit torrent gets shut off with a fury.
Well my girlfriend tried using the Netflix disc last night and it told her to go download the installable version instead. I didn't see the message, perhaps it could have been skipped, but she left me with the impression the discs are already dead. She also noted the disc told her in big, bold font:
Zune software is much better on Windows than iTunes
I certainly disagree with this. My friends have tried to install Zune software on two or three of my PCs, some of them freshly reformatted with the latest Windows Service Pack. The installer would bomb for reasons it could not explain, except that it knew it could not install.
Developers of software that enables peer-to-peer communication must redesign their service to allow interception.
Yeah, right. I see that one going over well. We'll either push this onto the rest of the world (hasn't playing world police gotten old?) or the rest of the world will simply develop better software.
Well, Access may be too easy but that's not to say some people aren't great at it. We used to own a company in New Jersey that didn't have their own developers. My boss flew out there and hired an Access guy who really knew his stuff. You can argue that it wasn't "real" code (but it was definitely solid) and the data wasn't saved in Access, it was nothing more than a front end to an MSSQL store.
Kids use phones more than adults, so what? Is the fact that teens are generally hyperactive social creatures really news?
When I was a teenager, I'm sure I used our landline to talk 5-10 times as much as the average adult. At one point, my parents even got a second phone line for me and my sister because we used the phone too much.
After processing at the glue factory, they'll sell you downloadable packs of it for $20 a piece. And if you don't buy all of the packs you will suddenly find yourself locked out of many of the matchmaking playlists.
This will have no difference on Blu Ray players that require HDCP to output their high def content, still spitting in the face of thousands of early adopters.

Yet another reason why virus scanners are crap and don't go anywhere near my Windows box.

I saw two things in the video.
1) The average weight of people going into this courthouse in Florida is unusually high.
2) Most of the time, the "bad area" identified by the machine was in the ribcage area. To me, it looked like the system generated a boatload of false positives.
Google looking to win the whole enchilada and free up Java for everyone."
That would be an enormous, crushing defeat for Oracle. I don't think it's a plausible outcome, but it would be a great one.

Aww crap. I forgot what my neighborhood was. I'll never remember my 4 digit UID. And I'll certainly never remember what content I put up.
I think it would be fun to find it, but I have no idea how to start looking.

Do Not Return This Disc To Netflix!

The only bees they studied were dead.
I don't have much respect for those who unnecessarily bring government and lawyers into every situation.
Well this method worked pretty well for i4i, but I can't wrap my head around this news with that news.
jQuery is for prototyping... if you're depending on it for production systems, you're lazy.
Or saving your employer time and money. Sometimes being "lazy" isn't so bad.

I came here to say this, but I think it's ramen noodles on the left, tropical island on the right. Definitely made me laugh.
It's possible that the Russians set this up as an elaborate joke.
I actually think that would be a pretty funny joke. Thanks for the laugh.
roll your own at the lowest possible layer. anything else and you're leaving your chin open.
I don't know about that. I'm not out to write my own implementation of OpenSSL anytime soon. Some tasks are simply best left to field experts.
