well if you read the whole thing they have a time line from first notcing to notifying VMware and refining the problem all the way to posting the POC..
personaly i like it when they post POC's as it not only lets others see how they do it on paper insetead of in rough idea's or theory.
someone else might read the POC and see how it is exloiting this and realize that it can be used to effect something else and then inform people about that.
keeping the nature of the problem hiden from the public does not help create a world where everyone can contribute to makeing things secure.
that is very true - very useful for virus / back door testing.. gives you a way of getting files onto the image without it being able to spread them (also without having to burn a disk - which would be another way)
i figured he was just compaining aobu thte shear number of MS articals there have been in the past few months.. and trying to rationalize it.. although attempting to rationalize why anything is put on the front page of slashdot is about as wise as using a slashdot poll as the basis for research
considering that this is a tech/nerd site.. and considering that MS has a very very large portion of the OS market. i would assume it logical that the number of articals on this site be in the same proportion about them.
sorry if it bothers you.. jsut filter it or stay in the linux or other sections
my whole point was to show how internet filtering is censorship where the do not call list isn't censorship - it doesn't matter if it is me or my children that click on the link or answer the phone - one is censorship and the other isn't
it is alittle diffrent then the do not call list..
when someone calls your house it is something that is unexpected to you . they are the same as someone randomly walking up to you and start talking about something.
when you are on they net and going to websites - even clicking on links you are asking for something - you are the person walking up to another and start the conversation.
the diffrence is with web sites - as being a public website it is understood the site wants to be talked to so it is ok for you to go and talk do it. but with telemarketers they are blind calling not knowing if the person wants to be talked to or not.
when you opt in to the do not call list you are saying "i don't want to be talked to" on a web server you put a password auth on the content and the web server is saying "i don't want to be talked to"
by filtering what sites people can and can't go do they arn't saying "i don't want to be talked to" - instead you have a third party coming over as you are walking over to the webserver and saying "sorry but i say it doesn't matter what you or the webserver think but you can't talk to each other"
filtering web connections is censorship - the do not call list is a premtive conversation stating intent from one party to another.
Where my grandmother lives you can't buy anything stronger than wine at all and you can't buy beer or wine on the weekends (both saturday and sunday) really screwed up if you ask me
Try adding/PAE to the boot ini file on your xp box as it doesn't normaly atempt to use PAE - and if your lucky your board will support PAE and you will be able to see and address all 4gb of memory on your box from the OS..
unless the battery is made by Sony - cause last time i checked PCB was flamable - and am confident that you could set it to catch fire on power loss the memory would be useless..
although that would be a brain dead setup to have... i could so see manufactures labeling it a "feature"
i am fine with this.. BUT.. it has to be within reason.. the transfers would need to be based on cost (like route costs)... if it is iner node traffic it can count as next to nothing.. if it is inter area traffic allittle more.. innetwork alittle more and outside network alittle more.. and i better not be paying a damn 50$ connection charge.
oh and it sure as hell shouldn't be advertized as "Unlimited" i don't give a shit what the fine print says..
if they want to follow up on these comments.. they need to put some damn numbers on these things.. so that people can see what they get for their money.
I have a Pentium III 877Mhz processor machine with about a half gig of DDR ram that I purchased in 2000.... So tell me, what am I doing wrong? you want to know what your doing worng? first off.. don't try to shove the memory in a slot that doesn't fit it (this is why they key it)... P3 chipsets never had DDR support. second make sure you have a real CPU cause Intel never made an 877Mhz CPU.. an 866 yes (133x6.5)
so yea.. first of make sure your computer works before you complain about the software not running on it.
i would tend to agree with you on the browser part BUT only if you limit it to the browser that is included on the phone. I have a Cingular 8525 (remarked HTC) and yes the built in IE blows ass.. BUT Opera for WM5/6 is extreamly nice and much prefer it to Safari on the iPhone.. the thing is you have to buy Opera it isn't given free and i undertand that 99% of people arn't goingto buy a phone and then go buy a browser for it.
the iphone is nice... but the lack of copy/cut/paste is frustrating - being edge only sucks very very very bad.. it's imap client leaves alot to be wanted.. but the no 3g and no bluetooth theathering for laptops is the deal killer for me...
you might want to watch the whole painting it with company or other government logo's.. knowing how forgetful some of these places are they might find your hiden satalite and think it was one they just forgot about.. and when it didn't respond try to have it taken down..
i jsut say you put an umbrela corp logo on it.. that way everyone knows whos it is and woln't mess with it
you are so correct.. we have bonneded T1's here providing PRI's for the phone system and net access. we pay 350$ per T1 pair + 200$ for pri sevice for each PRI on top of the T1's... and 100$ a month for our ip block.... when you have something like what we have.. the don't even bother charging you for the bandwith.. jsut an access charge (50-100 per T1)
all in all the bandwidth is the cheap part for the telcos.. the TV cable company is diffrent though.... they didn't build their netowrk to the same standards.... and they are paying the price... well atempting to not have to.. but damnit they will have to in the end..
ow ow ow ow.. damnit.. that image was painful.. keep thoughts like that to your self please..... must find drill and get that image out of my head.... ow ow ow

for once my sig aplies to someone's comment..
whaaa?? vmware share folders have absolutly nothing to do with network shares..

it was required in server 03 too.. and even complains if you use simple passwords.

First rule of BGP - NEVER advertise a route you don't own.

atleast they will get one thing right... in 50 years we will be headed to China to find work to pay for our crazy expensive crap over here.
