saddly some banks (USAA's banking) allows you to scan in your check and upload the image and have it work as a deposit.. so you never need to leave you desk
honestly the best way of selling this and getting it past the whole safty thing is to sell it in a non operational state..
ie.. selling it missing a belt or a fuse block.. something that is required for it to run.. there for they are selling a contraption that isn't a working car.. there for they do not have to go through crash testing..
then the consumer that buys it will have to add parts to it to make it work.. at that point you can get tags for it as a kit/personal built car which doesn't have to pass crash test standards only a basic safty inspection (atleast here in NC).
it is the same way that chrysler sold that motor cycle with the viper v-10 in it.. no way in hell would they sell that in running condidition.. way to much liability.. so all the ones they sold shipped without a drive chain.. and there for in a non operational state.
the consumers had to get a drive chain and install it them selves before it would run.
there are ways of getting around the law it is funny we even have them some times
i use alot of incadescent lights.. but that is because almost every light i have is on a dimmer.. once they can get CPF's working right on dimmers then i will be happey to use them all the time.
we had a guy at a shop i used to work at - he was a complete stonner.. on the wall we used to have old hard drive platters - including a set that where the huge (about 18-24in accross) the dumb ass grabed one and called out to a co-worker "hey catch" and procceded to throw it like a frisbe.. luckly the guy ducked cause it was aimed at his head.. it ended up going about 50 feet and then went through the front window which was safty glass leaving a nice little slit...
never ever under estimate the stupidity of others - they will always supprise you
(and no he wasn't fired for that - although we was fired about a year later for showing up to work drunk too many times)
oh i FULLY understand - i don't think there is a sys admin anywhere that hasn't had to do this one atleast a couple of occasions... i just wanted to strees that just because it can be done doesn't mean it should be.
I have seen some implementations of things that are the quivlent to a redneck "hay yall watch this" moment.. they don't always turn out very well
"When you can push a platform past what it was designed to do, and have it work, you've done something" true but for the sake of the world that will follow you don't belive this is the best idea - just because something can work doesn't mean you should do it that way
basicly what you are saying is build a token ring network where some poor guy walks around carring the token.. might want to watch out.. i wouldn't be supprised if IBM has a patent for that
the whole point (if you read the last page) is NOT to use the standard language style.. instead of going line by like doing work the idea is to see all the data sets and the work being done right infront of you . please go read/reread the last page - it is an intresting eye opener. He did it in excel to grab attention and it fit what he was trying to show.
the ending was an eye opener for me.. it makes alot of sence.. and it would be really awsome if someone could create a dynamic enviroment where you could do this with any code.. it really would make it alot easier to understand the infromation flow in large projects
last year my whole office watched the world cup in ascii.. i do wish they would have done it in color ascii. but i understand it was limited by bandwidth. we set up an air plannel up in the lobby and had it connect so we could all go by and see the score and some of the action
to be honest in my aread (south east US) Cingular was the best service posiable (except when in the middle of no where of the woods) AT&T bought them and while the customer service has sence fallen down to the 6-7th layer of hell.. the cell service and coverage is quite nice. better than Alltel by an order of magnitude.
i have no issues with AT&T's service.. the 3G is really nice.. edge is slow as hell and the voice quality is good..
and their rates for data are reasonable.. i pay 40$ a month for unlimited data on my phone which includes using BT to teather my laptop. and when i have 3G signle the data transfer rate to the phone is about the same as my RR cable conenction at home and on the laptop it is only limited by the fact that my phone doesn't have BT with EDR. over all no complaints and i would do it again.
although i do find it funny that the bill i get lists out ALL the data transfer sessions.. so some times my bill looks like a textbook.. they need to learn not to kill so many trees
except we are looking at it from our point of view.. which is what it looked like 8,000 light years away.. which means it is posiable to that ithas gone off.. just.. the light and gama ray's havn't gotten here yet..
it is better than trying to figure out what MS app is lieing to you..
right now i have an exchange box that is failing backup's.. it fails do to a check sum error.. dig further and it says it is failing check sum because of a bad sector....
it is a VM... it is using a virtual disk... and the physical disk the virtual disk is on is fine...
it just makes you scratch your head and ask.. what the fuck.
same here in North Carolina Except that you have the right to refuse the esting at the seen - at that point you have the option of loseing your license and all that fun stuff OR going to the hostpital and have them conduct the test - if you agree to that then they can't do anything until the results come back. if your dirty your screwed.. if you are clean you can get them for harassment...
normaly if you are clean and they are playing the drug use/alcohol card and refuse the on site test and insist of a hospital doing it the cop will back down - sadly the cops around here don't like people that fall into certian groups
to be honest i like the laptop style keyboards (short range of motion) and FYI the EEE PC's keyboard is nearly untypeable if you are older than 5.. the keys are jsut too damn small.. but for the past two years i have been using a logitech diNovo wireless keyboard set.. and to be honest the keys on the d420 and the diNovo are the same damn size.. so there is no transition pain going from my keyboard at my desk to the one on the laptop. and the fact that the media base for the d420 has a dvi out for a secondary display means i can run dual displays while at the office.. over all i love it..
and yes alot more zip than an EeePC.. ther is no comparason (except the EeePC is cute)
i am sorry but there are few cops i respect now days.. i get pulled about once a week at a friends neighbor hood by the local cops because i drive a nice car and itisn't that nice of an area and i am coming and going at night. even cops that have pulled me before and have searched my car before still pull me and try to search me..
the first few times i didn't mind and said what ever.. and let them search it.. but that changed after they started saying they pulled me for things that couldn't have happend.. such as running a stop sign.. only problem was i had jsut back out of the parking space.. and hadn't gotten to the stop sign.. at that point when asked if they could search the car.. the answer was no not with out a warrent. they gave me alot of lip and tried to get me to do something so they had probiable cause..
i have no doubt in my mind that eventuly one of them would plant something.. and i still don't like going over there because of this.
i like your dream idea.. i would have jsut suggested 12-24-48v and let the device step it down or use a VERY small incable step down.. and having the bulk power conversion done by the strip - then we spend money buying the most effecient strip for our devices..
and make sure you hide them.. we had some of thses (not these exactly but the same concept) and when the fire marshal came through for the yearly inspection he saw them and gave us a citation for having an extention cord pluged into a power strip and also gave us a citation for having a power strip pluged into an extetion cord.
apprently you are allowed to doit temporaily (liek using a drill or something) but you can't doit and have it sit
nor can you have a power strip pluged into another strip.. OR have a power strip pluged into a UPS or a UPS pluged into a power strip
we ended up going to walmart and getting some (very nice amazingly) 15' and 25' corded power strips.. for the second issue and then just added another strip running over for the first issue.
i still can't belive he fine'd us for that though..
i have had the pleasure of using an EEE PC - they are nice.. but leave alot out.. give me one with a nice 1024x768 (atleast) screen make the SSD removeable and replace able with a 1.8in hdd (hell sell them with not SSD's too) and add internal blue tooth.. then we can start.. sure it wouldn't be 300$ at that point.. but it wouldn't be that much more - hell i would love to buy just the shell.. given it has a decent screen and a standard 1.8in drive connection.
personaly i got a dell d420 with extended battery.. i couldn't be happier.. sure it is only a Core Duo ULV at 1.06ghz.. but it is dual core. and lasts 6+ hours on battery with wifi and bt on and the screen at a nice level.. it is only alittle heavyier than the EEE PC with a lot more power and storage and over all isvery nice.. personaly i use it as a desktop replace ment.. and when i got it the base price was >2k (agree not exactly worth it) but after mixing cupons i got it for 1200$ - very well worth it..
I agree that i am sick of laptops that can't be used in the lap.. the EEE PC is cute.. and i might get one for my kid in a few years (once i have the kid that is) but untill they get alittle better specs on it.. it isn't going to kill off any good true lap usable laptops
the 42in and 17in is all about depth and the perception of the person watching it..
i am alittle to lazy to do the math for you..but when you get home look at your tv then hold your laptop between your face and the tv.. move the laptop to the point (towards yourhead or the tv) until the precived size is the same.
now if your laptop has a higher pixel density than your TV the image should look better on your laptop than the tv..
it is all about perception and depth.. personaly i prefer that when i am watching movies by my self to watch them on my laptop.. i can see the detail beter and get the bost that my laptop consumes alot less power than my tv and with a wireless connection to my stereo.. it still soudns great..
now will i ever watch a blueray movie on my laptop. hell no.. the cost just isn't worth it.. who knows maybe in 10 years they willbe cheap and work well enough.. but not anytime soon for me..
i know i was just makeing a point why shared folders can be used.. makeing an ISO is just as much of a hassle as burning a disk (except yea you don't have to waist 10cents on a disk)
+1 aswsome refrence..
if only we could make our own mod options..
saddly some banks (USAA's banking) allows you to scan in your check and upload the image and have it work as a deposit.. so you never need to leave you desk

for my boss at work with an Eee we ended up putting it in an old travel projector bag - first perfectly

What could possiably go wrong?
5$ says it takes them longer to figure out what to name the damn thing than it takes the land to emplode on it's self
it just woln't work.. everyone will want to call it something diffrent - there will be mass confusion

i thought FUD was built into marketing these days.. i alwasy asume that if someone is to do marketing that they are going to spred fud..
or i could be wrong... or live in a diffrent world.. havn't found a s/n yet to confirm that...
