  3. Micro-Payments? on The Box of Empty Promises · · Score: 1

Since when were any Xbox Live transactions "micro" sized? All I've seen are PGR track packs for £4 or so and obscure Japanese dance tracks by unknown Japanese dance artists for DDR at £4.99 a pop. That's the price of a PC game on the "Sold Out" range. Hardly "micro".

I might be missing the point here, but who really gives a rat's ass what it looks like?

I thought it was a games console. It'll go beneath me TV if this is true and pump pretty pictures onto my TV screen. If I don't like the controller, there will doubtlessly be a hundred third-party controllers to choose from.

Whether it makes me hard or not doesn't really matter. Meh.

  6. ...May be a good idea! on Xbox 360 Confirmed For November · · Score: 0

I think that Microsoft have the idea right here. SOMEONE has to do SOMETHING to break Sony's reign in the console market, and I think that but pulling a surprise early launch, Xbox 360 might do that.

Of course, there are equal chances of it dying early when the PS3 heads out a year later, but you take your chance...

OK, maybe that was a bad example. :)

Although, there are ads for Star Wars Episode III on all formats all over the site. Hasn't been reviewed yet, so I'll wait and see, there.

Guys, there is NOTHING wrong with a site making money, I said that in my original post. My point in general is about trust. Gamespot's reviews are absolutely shocking at times - did you ever read their coverage of Shenmue and the sequel?

If I walked up to you in the street wearing a Madden NFL 2006 t-shirt and had a big poster above my head saying "BUY MADDEN 2006!", and I offered you a copy of the game, would you expect me to say "Nah, its rubbish." if you asked me how good it was?

I just went to read a review on Pariah for the Xbox. An interstitial ad popped onto the screen advertising...yep, you guessed it...Pariah for the Xbox.

I don't wear tinfoil hats, I might get struck by lightning. And if you're getting tired of other people's opinions, maybe some Gatorade would help? I'd hate to see you do sports.

  9. Money, Money, Money... on GameSpot To Launch GameCenter Service · · Score: 2, Interesting

Oh look, yet another big site that (mistakenly and completely of their own doing) grew too fast and couldn't pay the bills - has found that they need more and more ways of "monetizing" their formerly content-only site.

Nothing wrong with a company making money. All they need to do now is think about actually playing some games and telling us about them honestly.

"This review score sponsored by Electronic Arts"
Maybe slightly offtopic, but how can anyone trust a review from a company who could lose 50% of their revenue, should the publisher of the game withdraw all of their advertising based on that review score and tone?

  10. Overclocking consoles... on Gaming Hacks · · Score: 1

I can overclock my consoles? Sweet! Just what I always wanted, Halo 2 to run even faster so that I have even less chance of getting that fiddly reticle thing to stay on some online foe with seemingly superhuman speed.

Wish it contained a "Talent Hack" chapter to teach me how to do well at online gaming. Then I could go out and win big bucks for being able to shoot at random strangers in HL2 without curling up into a ball and crying under my desk when I'm still in with a chance at 432-0.

    Big buck$!

  14. Re:Shelf Space Costs on Repercussions of the EB Buyout · · Score: 1

This is true indeed. Just looking at the UK, you can pick up the top ten console games for PS2 or Xbox at most supermarkets, music stores, game stores (of course!) and you can even find some crappy budget games sitting in the corner of your local petrol station now. Steam is a great idea and maybe an alternative, but given that I've bought and tried to get Day of Defeat running through the system on four different home PCs - only to see it crash on loading the game on all four of them - I'd say it needs a little work.

Ok, say you wrote Duck Hunt. You made a coupla thousand bucks back in the day being an unknown coder working for a large corporation (Nintendo) and somehow managed to wangle that royalties agreement. You still get some royalties here and there for usage and branding etc. Then, walking down the street, you see a bunch of market stall guys selling a counterfeit copy of your game, with your graphics, your code. Oh yeah, your royalty cheques have been getting smaller by the year since it was released and your still not John Carmack. How would you feel?

Linsey Lohan is a member! Sorry, mtv-linsey-lohan. Now I can join too and become mtv-ken. I wonder if other companies will start to market names that contain their own brand. You could have Visa-Ken or Ben-and-Jerrie's-Ken. Both would make me sound a little like their bitch, but in very different and distressing ways.
