Okay, you're a moron. I said downloading, not taking a cd. If you're downloading an ubuntu iso, suse, fedora, whatever from their respective websites/repositories, you can be sure that you're going to get a good iso, because it's from the people who created the distro. Of course that some random memorex cd with the iso burned on it is going to be sketchy, so that's why you have to burn your own cd's.
Either way my point is that getting something straight from the distribution's website is going to be legit. If not, then we're all fucked.
No, it's that free linux ISO's are actually distributed on purpose. You wont see Microsoft providing Vista to download but you will see Ubuntu providing their ISO to download for free. When was the last time you searched for a free linux distro on bittorrent (other than getting a legit torrent from the distro's website)?
You know, I've heard all of this shit about steam and how gamers hate it and all that, but when I finally decided to install XP on my MacBook Pro so I could play some games, I installed steam. Using it to get games, install them, updates, run them- It's probably the easiest software I've used in a while, and it's clean and fast. I dont see what the deal is with people. Everyone bitches and moans about it because it makes it (near) impossible to steal the games.
yeah, until you actually start to install software- then you'll see. my mbp takes at least two minutes to boot xp, whereas it takes just over 30 seconds to boot osx
I dont really care if the keynote was or was not impressive. I sat at my computer last night looking at the sneak preview of leopard and to be honest, it looks really cool. Its about time they have multiple desktops- and finally the chance to use remote desktop without paying $300 for the program. MSN has been doing that for a long time.
I'm sorry, but this must be in some high school in a different state or country. I have never heard of this, and not only is it ridiculous, but in the article, they state that "...percentage of 8 to 12-year olds are throwing out their lunches once a week".
Only problem with a psp is that there's a _slight_ space restriction. You can pack 30 or 60 gigs on an ipod, but with a psp you'd be paying hundreds for even a 2gb flash card. Turns out that your $250 psp just turned into $400-500, and it still has over 25gb less space.
Alright I've argued the point of videos being watchable on the ipod video (others don't think so beause of the small screen), but having hi-def on an ipod sized screen is like having a crappy video on an even smaller screen... Why wate money on hidef for a screen so small? Plus, hidef videos take up much more space than a low quality h.264 mpeg4 video, which.. on an ipod screen that is scratched up anyway, workds just fine for me.
Now, if this could be attatched to a bigscreen tv or something then I'll think different. But then why not just get a dvr?
The cell phone checking does absolutly nothing to prevent (or handle) these incidents since there is no record of numbers that are about to be called.
I'm in high school and in march last year we had a huge drug bust. How? Searching through text messages on a students phone, leading to others phones and looking through call lists, etc. There isn't much you can do when a few cops come into the classroom and tell everyone to put their phones on the desk and get out.
Very true there. I work at a web dev company and everyone that works there (including me) has a bottomless coffee cup that just keeps going and going. Maybe its the fact that it's free... maybe it's the fact that we're addicted. Well, either coffee- or Mountain Dew. They both work.:P
Hard-core porn is one thing. That's not real life. However, what is happening in Iraqui is real life. I dont believe this should be censored from tv (either porn or what is going on elsewhere), no. If not the cable / sattelite / whatever provider, then at least most devices now offer some sort of "lock code" as a form of limiting certain channels. So the people of age who are mature enough to buy their own cable subscription can view it. The parents who want family tv can also view it. But then they can also limit their children from viewing it at their own will. The whole negative side to this is that it is taking away the free will of parents who would block it, and also pissing off the people who want to educate their kids by "limiting" their exposre to this (Iraqui stuff, not hardcore porn:P ). And most of all, it's really pissing off the people who just want to watch it.
Everything on tv should work just like the internet as far as what's allowed and what isn't. There are plenty of great content filtering systems availiable. Going back to my original post, parents should be putting these in place. If they dont, then that's their form of parenting. It shouldn't be anyone elses problem but theirs.
Would they have taken responsibility for their mistake?
Yes - they offer up to $1000 of fraud protection for ebay sales, which is about how much I sold it for.
Have you actually had any bad experiences with paypal? I have read through these Paypal Sucks websites and find some of the stories to be quite far-fetched. I have been using Paypal for years, and never had any problems. A representative from paypal actually called my house phone about ten minutes after I had sold a laptop to a buyer with a fraudulent credit card, informing me of the situation and telling m enot to ship the item. I was very impressed. They know their stuff, and they honestly dont suck.
Now if M$ buys them up i'm not going to be so sure, because they are the last people I would want to have access to my bank account / credit card info.
The whole point to Apple is the operating system, for me at least. Honestly, I dont give a damn what is in my computer as long as it runs quickly without any noticable slowdowns or choking because the hardware doesnt support it. But obviously, because Apple has about 5-10% of the market share (yes, give or take...), there are a few things that it cannot do. Namely, play games. Of course this isn't their fault, it's just that game developers rarely make games availiable on the Mac OS because Apple has such a low market share. This is where Windows comes in. I personally can't stand Windows as an operating system- having been on an Apple for a while, there are just so many of the "little things" that Mac OS has and Windows lacks. But there comes a time when I'd like to run other software not made for Mac. It's just like having Windows dual booting with Linux. You run Linux because you dont like Windows, but you still have that Windows partition for the software that either isn't developed for linux, or just runs shittily under Wine.
With that said, I think it's great that Windows is supported. Wether or not I'll use it for more than games, is a different story.

Anyone remember the movie Minority Report? Things didn't end up too well after that was over. I think this is probably a bad idea.

Sounds like something dvorak would rave about.
Nothing to see here, move along.

Um, no. They have already released Betas and RC's. That was the beta testing.
Sure, my Macbook Pro gets a little toasty when i'm playing games or rendering video, but at least it doesnt explode!
In other news, Apple is also being sued by Us Playing Cards because the iPod too closely resembles a deck of Bicycle cards.

no... i have a macbook pro and used to have a powerbook g4. i get almost double the wireless range.

last time i checked... that's elementary school.

hm.. dont let ballmer join the segway polo team. that'd be one expensive chair when he loses.

Ridiculous. Cant we let the parents do the parenting? It's really their responsibility for watching what their kids are doing, not the governments.

For the LAST time- HTML is NOT a programming language!!!

I really wish I had moderator points.
