Does this mean the commercials for world hunger will stop? Seriously, what will they look like when they show kids who have no food playing solitare on their hand cranked laptops.
Sorry for being cynical, but every time this comes up, it amazes me. Good idea, but priorities seem out of wack.
While you are right, the large number of users that are quality minded have no excuse to buy anything else. There will always be the group of cheep users, but the middle (young, gamer, DINK [double income no kids] ) group will only want this machine. In fact, they have wanted it, but did not want to go windowless. Now they do not have to.
A naken woman in a provocative position with a hand over her nipple is still naked.
Supervised internet use will allow me to ensure the setting stays on. I cannot know what Live will show since there is no setting.
What they do when I am not around, I cannot control, but I can minimize it as much as possible.
This is a huge missing feature. I made two random searches on very benign items in the images section. Both on Live returned one thumbnail of a naked woman (all relevant parts covered, but naked none the less). As a father and a person who atleast attempts to live accourding to a moral standard, I do not want to see, nor do I want my kids to see this stuff. Difficult as it is to keep it away from them, at least google offeres a decent filter that I can set to weed it out. The same searches on google images returned no questionable pics on the first 3 pages (did not check any further).
Thank you for a decent reply. I will try to explain. I do not think of myself as a coward... I strongly believe in protecting my family in as many ways possible. I draw the line at quality of life issues. If government can read emails, tape phone calls, etc. who cares. It does not effect my life, and it helps with protection issues. I do nothing illegal, therefore have nothing to fear. There is a huge responsibility to this, and that is why government BY the people is so key. (this has seriously been flawed as there are very few politicians that are decent people in both parties.) If Government wants to effect my life, screw them. But if they suspect illegal activities, they should do what they can to find it. If fact, if I am doing something illegal, arrest me.
That is what I am willing to "give up" which is really not giving up anything. This instance is not even that. This is listening to phone calls to suspected terrorists outside this country. It makes no sense to me how anyone could be against that.
Someone in a post mentioned the need for checks and balances. I agree. Government should be free to "spy" given good reason. Checks and balances are in place. The current administration, as well as others who did similar activities, have stated their reasoning. It is not one man making these decision. They were working within their constitutional right. Now there are those who will disagree, and I suppose that is what the courts are for hence the lawsuit. I disagree, and I think a lawsuit at this time is stupid. I am willing to give some trust to my elected officials. I am willing to submit to them, as I do in speeding, and searches on planes. I believe in the system. I believe in this country and its standards. If the government ever oversteps its boundries, I will move.
Everyone loves quoting our founding fathers. Here is my reply:
Thomas Jefferson, 1781: "God who gave us life gave us liberty. And can the liberties of a nation be thought secure when we have removed their only firm basis, a conviction in the minds of the people that these liberties are a gift of God? That they are not to be violated but with His wrath? Indeed, I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just; that His justice cannot sleep forever"
James Madison, FATHER of the U.S. Constitution: "We have staked the whole future of American civilization, not upon the power of government, far from it. We have staked the future of all our political institutions upon the capacity of mankind for self-government; upon the capacity of each and all of us to govern ourselves, to control ourselves, to sustain ourselves according to the Ten Commandments of God."
The founding fathers knew that once our country losts moral (dare I say Christian) values, the government would fail to work. This country has no morals, and it is aprearant we are quickly loosing the ability to self-govern. What happens then, I am not sure. All I know is I will be well armed.
... Are doing something illegal. The government is responsible for protecting its citizens and making sure laws are being followed. (it is not to feed, clothe, or teach but that is a whole 'nother story). I am completely fine with government doing what is reasonably neccessary to protect me even if my phone conversation with my ji-had buddies is being listened in on. For once, someone has the balls to protect this country and the "civil rights" propronents want to bring it down. I know that we should have freedoms, but in a post 9-11 age, there is certain information that should not be released for the public to have. This is why we elect government officials. I love freedom, but I am willing to give some up if it means my wife and daughter are safer as a result. This happens all the time. I give up my right to go 100 mph on the interstate so that others are safe. We allow are personal items to be searched when we travel by plane. This is a privacy right we give up to ensure safety. So sue on NYT, and know that as a result we are all a little LESS safe.
From the Article: We've certainly gotten a lot of feedback from both readers and editors. For example, readers told us they loved the news clusters but they didn't want press releases on the home page (although they are still useful to have in the search results). A major area we wanted to address was personalization. We offered email alerts, as well as the ability for users to create a personalized page, but many users don't have the time to specify exactly what they want. So today we're adding a way to automatically recommend stories for users with Personalized Search.
WOW! Great post. Contentment is the only way to get out of the constant pursuit of more and more. Of course without greed, capitalism dies, but to the few who are willing to live contently, great happiness awaits.
The American school system is terrible at this. With homeschooling we can promote the issues our kids are stronger in while still keeping each key subject in front of them. They learn so much faster with more time to devote to various other studies or fun stuff. I do not recommend it if the person teaching is either not to smart themself, or does not have the time to devote to it, but done well, it works great.
Why is europe not complaining about this??? I have heard that European internet is far superior to America in many places. Did they not deal with the same issues. We should learn from our more seasoned friends across the pond.
Stop believing the media lie. It is not illegal, in fact, even president Clinton agreed that the president has such powers under constitutional law to do so. Both administrations, as well as independent review boards from both sides, all agree there is nothing illegal about this. The stupid left wing media just can't let it go, and americans are like sheep, they follow whereever the media leads.

He wrote what you wrote, but the "you can't post that quickly" message poped up, so he expounded.
Shame really, I like your version better too.
The g-parent made your point for you. You did not have to respond. Best of Luck teach.

Does XP EULA say anything about hacking files together to get the thing to work? A lot of people are saying this is legal, but I doubt it.
They do the same in Hotmail... So frustrating. In fact, you have to open in new window.

or "2000 dollars" in "billions of 2000 dollars"?

I had the combo machine. It was great. Wrote the old talk back program that would talk to you in a very Max-like voice whatever you typed. Oh yeah...

'That' refers to the aformentioned Windows Only comment, not the app itself. Threw me for a minute as well.
Man, I wish I had MOD points... +1 Funny to you good sir
I will gladly elect this post to your best of site. Very nicely done.

Guess they did not have the old -1 Flaimbait.

You are the reason the media is still in business... You bought the lie... hook line and sinker.
