but seriously, if you're a good collector, then you can give provenance on all your items.. i.e. papertrail..
another thing you must consider is "historical memorabilia".. for example, if I have a letter from the Governor of Kentucky in 1872, who would forge one of those letters?? i mean.. its like a $20.00 letter..
the PSA/DNA doesn't know a damn thing about what the Governor of Kentucky's autograph looks like.. you trace where the document comes from.. if the sources line up, then you got yourself an authentic piece..
the fact of the matter is, the PSA/DNA can deny authenticity for any piece they please.. including something they have know nothing of..
wow, you are one picky bastard.. They were JFK Letters auctioned off to Ross Perot.. And they sold for $80,000 because Bill Gates' secretary was told not to go over $75,000.. When Bill lost the auction, he called up our offices screaming that he lost the auction.. Because obviously an $80,000 bid he could easily beat.. Blamed it on his secretary..
its funny because you don't know a fucking thing about autographs or historical memorabilia.. so i really don't quite understand what even gives you the right to post a comment about my grammar.. is this a fucking article on Grammar?? No you fucking twat.. -100 Offtopic fucking flamebait anonymous coward..
I work for a Historical Society based in Delaware.. We currently authenticate autographs, take on consignments, and sell hundreds of items a week on Ebay.. Mostly political, presidential, music and hollywood, and sports related autographs.. We've been a business for over 20 years, and have even auctioned off John F. Kennedy letters to Ross Perot while he had a bid-war with Bill Gates..
Buying autographs on ebay can definitely be a tricky business.. But one of the HUGE things that annoys me, and several other professional autograph collectors, is the PSA/DNA.. They are Ebay's RIGHTHAND man as far as autograph authentication is concerned.. Ebay highly promotes these guys and trust their opinion as far as buying non-fraudulent items.. The problem with this, is that all the little guys are pretty much up shit's creek since ebay figuratively says, "If its not PSA/DNA authenticated, then don't buy it!"
The PSA/DNA I agree, is good with sports autographs.. Because they do in fact have access to a huge DNA database of athletes, and can physically tell wether or not an autograph is real.. However, these guys have a shitty reputation for authenticating Hollywood memorabilia, political, and presidential.. I have a problem with this, because some customers that buy autographs from us, try to get those autographs authenticated by the PSA/DNA, just so they can have that nice sticker of authenticity, Ebay's word, and the potential to resell the item at a higher price..
When an item we sell, gets denied from the PSA/DNA, it really is bad business for us.. Because you have two groups of so-called professionals, that disagree with the authenticity of an item.. Its nothing but an opinion.. Being that they started off as a athelete authenticator, I can trust their opinion with those types of autographs, however I cannot trust them on historical items since they have a mere 3 years of experience with that genre of collections..
basically, i think its FUCKED up that this company is allowed to be the MAIN most TRUSTED authentication of Ebay, and they're also allowed to SELL items at the same time!! Talk about a freakin' monopoly.. Its bullshit.. Give us a chance you bastards..
Google is fucking fantastic.. its hilarious hearing so many little tools complain about Google.. cmon.. its quite obvious they are the BEST at what they do.. the best search engine, the best advertisement deals, hell, they'll even give YOU money for putting some ads up on your blog.. let us not forget all the amazing software they have released as well.. Google Earth being one of those things..
And even the Google Toolbar.. personally, it was the first "good" toolbars that actually worked, and blocked popups.. granted, ya don't even need it nowadays, but still, it was a major help 2 years ago.. if you're critical about Google, you obviously must know something that we don't.. you probably read too much in to Google vs MS politics.. screw it man.. the most important thing is, that their products kick ass.. if Google runs their entire world one day, I'll gladly let them.. because I know they'll do a great job.. and the best job..
sorry, but i don't take anyone with the name "Otto" seriously.. what a stupid fucking name.. i just can't get the bus driver from the simpsons out of my head.. and obviously, he didn't know shit, so lets just assume this guy doesn't either..
one more thing Mr. Otto.. if you RTFM then maybe your printer would work.. lazy fucking bastard
"Martin told the forum that the FCC will soon release a report that concludes that offering TV programming a la carte is economically feasible and in the best interest of consumers.'"
christ almighty.. WHERE THE FUCK HAVE YOU BEEN?? people have wanted this service since the day more than 3 channels existed.. i cancelled my cable television 2 years ago.. it amazes me that people can actually find time to watch TV nowadays.. ahh well, its your money..
i am glad though, that these cable companies are going to offer custom programming.. it might make me buy cable just so I can watch comedy central, cartoon network, discovery, and the food network.. other than that, its all fuckin trash..
maybe this will start to influence the networks themselves to start just broadcasting their programs online for a subscriber fee..
did kde.org get slashdotted?? the screenshots looks great.. they keep getting better thats for sure.. i'm looking forward to using the new version.. so tough to choose between gnome and kde..
i personally love damn small linux.. i mean of course it lacks some things, but being that its mostly meant for a LiveCD, it comes jam packed full of pre-compiled modules and support for all sorts of things, like PCMCIA!!! I have an old p100 toshiba satellite laptop, and it was nearly impossible to get linux setup on it.. mostly because there's hardly any linux distros out there in which the installation itself doesn't require more than 32 megs of ram..
i had 16.. i was able to copy the entire DSL distro from the LiveCD directly to my harddrive.. boots up no problem, and has all the support I need for my old laptop.. i did this because a liveCD runs horribly on a 1x cdrom..
it was a bit of work to get to my liking, especially when it came to getting X working with a decent X-man that didn't run like shit.. WindowMaker was perfect.. and now I have an extra computer so when my old lady has to use my main machine for her school work, i can sit back in the recliner with a crappy old laptop, browse the net, check my email, and hop on irc.. i definitely praise any work that people do with old machines.. there's SOMEBODY that can use 'em..
wow.. now i truly understand why Robert the Angry Mail Man from The Don and Mike Show Radio Show, wants to light 2 Brand new Xbox's on fire in front of CBS Studios and Radio..
thats freakin awesome... i remember seeing an excellent "Seller's Assistant Pro" cop-off for linux.. the developer discontinued quite a while ago just because of the APIs.. i stumbled across the software way too late and didn't even get to try it out.. I wonder if that developer is aware of this news.. i'd love to see an update.. if anyone knows of the particular Auction Management software for linux that I speak of, i'd appreciate a boot in the right direction..
i've been usin linux for a few good years now.. startin with slackware 3 and trying all sorts of distros since then.. i've loved pretty much all distros that I tried, with the exception of a few, and have witnessed, like many of you have, that things are getting easier, and easier, and of course, prettier as well..
hell, the first graphical installation i ever saw was mandrake's.. although, I don't like mandrake too much because of the intense amount of preinstalled mumbo jumbo, I still appreciated and respected how easy it was to install, and get running.. i know we all love our elitest programs that only a computer-guru would know how to operate, but I look at it a little differently.. i respect a program, and or operating system, based on how easy it is to operate.. simply because, the programmer him/herself, goes through so much more effort to make computing easy for the user.. and instead of just giving it nasty critiques, I praise the genius that developed something that underneath, is so extremely complicated, yet, looks extremely easy to the eye..
so in conclusion, Ubuntu has done just that.. its so easy, yet it also teaches you and helps the average user understand a little about their computer.. the installation surely doesn't "baby" the user.. but once you complete that text-based, and somewhat intimidating (to the average user) installation, and see what it produces when its finished, you're truly amazed.. i think that aspect alone really does a lot fo the user.. i can't wait to see how things progress with Ubuntu.. and their hardcore promotion of the word "Free" is also quite a plus.. i'll be damned if i ever pay a flippin' dime to RedHat, Mandriva, SuSE, or whoever else makes you pay for their crap.. Ubuntu is a prime example of how LINUX is supposed to be idealogically.. and they certainly execute that idea..
thats cool as shit.. i'm going to try to get a friend sign up for that contest.. i thought that program slashdot mentioned a year or so ago that regarded cracking the rubiks code.. gave you instructions to solving your puzzle based on what colors were currently showing.. what the hell was that program?
well its a good thing morons don't admin Linux servers.. because if it was anything like Windows, then this worm could have us in for a whole world of hurt..
you pay for something like Redhat, and they give you some closed source stuff here and there.. rather, you should download a REAL version of linux for free, and you get all the open source you could ever want..
doesn't make a whole lot of sense.. but whats free from the get-go, is free for everybody.. anything that has a price tag, is meant for one type of person.. the type of person with money.. so ya can't give it to your friends.. ya can't let them experience the greatness and the potential computers and their software can provide for humanity.. you can't truly network with the world because not everybody in the world can pay $200-300 for the good version of their operating system.. yes Bill, I appreciate your generosity in fighting and researching Malaria.. i wonder how much easier and cheaper research for these major diseases and other world problems if open source computer software was fully developed and embraced??
god damn bible thumpin' bastards.. just open your mind for a sec, and realize what millions of years of developing communication can do for one species..
one thing a lot of ID and creationist people think of, is "well, we're so advanced, how could any animal possibly evolve in to what we are today?"
well its simple.. figuring that we've found human skulls dating way over 10,000 years ago, and similar homo-type species even millions of years ago, don't you think that gives an ape/monkey-like animal (which have been proven to make their lives more efficient) PLENTY of time to develop communication?? plenty of animals communicate.. monkeys and humans however, have been able to use their communication skills to teach others.. to talk to one another.. to discuss and work together, to make life efficient.. when you have thousands of years of communication, it makes everything we are, and everything we have done, seem so easily possible without the help of an Unintelligent designer..
When I "upgraded" from 4.x to 5.0, the OS ran fine, but 2/3 of the apps I built from/usr/ports either wouldn't compile, or wouldn't run properly. In exasperation, I finally gave up and downgraded back to 4.x. I didn't try to upgrade again until 5.3 came out. At that point the ports I needed were fine. I am hesitant to upgrade to 6.0, only to go through this miserable experience all over again.
where exactly did it say Fresh Installation again?

if you read what he said, it was clear that he "Freshly installed version 4 then upgraded to version 5" and his ports didn't work..
