please.. no musicals!! i love the simpsons, but its so typical for cartoon movies to be musicals.. i could see a nice 90 minute plot.. i hope it rules..
although its quite fun hearing all the Mac Fans complain about their precious systems being exploited, i do in fact agree that its pretty lame to think of this as a new idea or concept..
instead of devoting so much time towards making a PC fit in a Mac case, why doesn't someone just design a better case for PCs ??
one of the reasons PC fans are so bitter (me) is because its obvious that Macs have always had the best cases.. so lets ditch the fuckin rectangular cubes and get something new..
i think its great that people are hobbyists, but i do agree with the other commenters that say this is old news..
i know this sounds really anal, but one thing that I noticed in particular, is the noise from the crazy space vessels..
when a little Jet flies over your neighborhood, the sonic boom, and engine noise, is so fucking incredibly loud..
in star wars, there are aircrafts coming from every direction.. seems like life would be just a little too freakin loud..
i think its pretty damn cool despite what some say about its speed.. i surely don't see you putting together a CPU of any sort..
its all about being a hobbyist.. thats how desktop computers came around to begin with.. i praise this guy, and hope he continues his passion of doing lots of work, for such a little pay off.. 3mhz indeed, but lots of fun, and something he did all by himself..
maybe give them to third world countries?? i remember reading about an organization here on Slashdot that put together computers using mostly obsolete computer parts, but still plenty capable of using the Internet, then they'd give them to countries or schools or anybody that needed a computer.. i think people should take their broken computers to a center where they can be gutted and brought back to life somehow..
"The PC is more powerful and popular than Apple systems because of its open architecture -- you can upgrade it. When the PC gets similar to the Mac mini, you have no space to upgrade, and you will lose this advantage," he said.
did it say how many ram slots it will have? i feel that is the determining factor when it comes to upgrades on these little types of machines.. if it did become popular enough, i could see other companies manfacturing mini-atx-like motherboards to fit in the small case.. who knows, it could become the new PC standard.. as long as it doesn't cost $400 to upgrade to a gig of ram.. we'll see..
btw.. the "To Confirm you're not a script" thing, is sometimes very hard to read..
this keyboard sucks complete balls.. i dont care what it does.. i've used a $10 generic IBM keyboard forever and its perfect.. when it dies, i'll buy another $10 keyboard that will last forever..
hrmmm... those controllers look awfully uncomfortable.. why are those handles so long?? i won't judge too fast, but has anybody held one of those controllers?? how do they feel??
I can't help but to compare things like Linux and Windows to the music scene..
you have your musicians like Metallica that think their music is this wonderful piece of history, and it MUST be paid for.. then you have musicians that love the fact that people are actually listening to their music in the first place, and really enjoy giving away their music for free..
linux is by far the more "passionate" OS rather than MS simply because as Stallman always says, knowledge is supposed to be free..
if you really want to help out the world, why they hell do YOU have to benefit in some ridiculously selfish way??
I apologize if anyone already mentioned this, but I worked with a crazy fat bastard that was a system analyst. everyday he'd buy one of those 99 cent bags of Doritos, and just not giving a flying crap about the crumbs he spilled, nor his latter orange fingers..
just imagine a keyboard with nothing but an orange dust in which covers it's entirity and crumbs in bewtween every little crevis imaginable.. pretty disgusting.. in my opinion, it was one of the worst foods eaten I had to tolerate from a fellow co-worker.. haha:-)
why are you here then?? its the dumb asses like you that don't support something good, then is just disapears off the planet, and you ask, "whatever happened to good ol' slashdot??"
it amazes me that free-market and the benefit of the "business" is more important than things like medical research and education..
the progression of humanity and medical science should be the number one priority when it comes to what tax money should be spent on.. it never works that way.. seems like there's been hundreds of "possible cures" for cancer, but most of them run out of funding and you never even hear about it on the actual news.. the health of humanity has always been less important than business and money.. oh well..
Excellent Rebuttal I must say. I love hearing people who the public trusts as the "educated" give their opinions regarding the music piracy issue.
This entire issue simply draws the line between greedy and passionate people.
its my obligation, and part of my belief of being a good person, to stop those who are greedy.. don't let them suceed in ruining people's lives or goals like they did with ol' Satchmo..
the record industry has been a joke since they fucking started.. do you think they really care about the musicians who really want to get their name out there?? do you think they actually care how GOOD a musician really is? hell no.. they don't care about morals or values. so its ridiculous that they have to use that bass-ackwards tactics to convince people that music piracy is wrong.. its RIGHT if you think like a true artist..
Yea, I agree that Fedora was definitely an odd choice.. Well, I can trust that the kind of person whom can build a 96 node super computer, makes very educated decisions..
I'm glad to hear that company's are still involved in making these clusters. Its a great way to build something powerful for a cheap price, and not having to lean towards Crays etc..
I worked for a company called Patmos International for the longest time, and we never shipped a single cluster.. We had tons of investors that seemed interested of course, but after 2 years of contiuous development, and no sales, the investors simply stopped investing, therefore my job was done for..
We advertised the "$99,000" super computer that would supposedly be in "everyones" garage one day.. Of course that was just a saying because of how cheap we could offer a 32 node system with all of our custom applications and linux operating system. Pretty sweet setup.. it sucks to see the big guys go down sometimes.. to this day, it was the best job I've ever had.. You can still read about Patmos if you search for James Gatzka on google.. They tried their hardest to bring some damn technology and culture to the podunk town of the Eastern Shore of Maryland..

c'mon now.. we all know that in order to have a REAL light saber you need to obtain a Crystal from the Mines on the planet Ilum.. ;)

do they really need something that powerful? i mean, i know of 386s that are smarter than some people from Delaware
