kdawson... you have to start reading slashdot... man you are an editor.. atleast add an rss feed and read only story headlines.... it was posted yesterday on slashdot
Okay, I am having difficulty in understanding $3 million figure... So they bought 60,000 licenses. If we consider the complete $3 million towards licenses, it will be $500 per license, which I think is way too much. However I could not find the cost of the encryption software anywhere on the web (anyone with links????)
anyone care to explain approximately from where $3 million figure came?
I live in a small town of blacksburg in a community served by some Shentel company (shentel.net). I am not sure if they are blocking p2p or throttling it but sometime I can't even connect to a host using gnutella. And if by chance it connects, it is almost impossible to download anything. Similarly bit-torrent speeds are near zero.
As soon as I VPN to my school from my home, p2p connects and I get excellent bit torrent speeds.
So, what can we do about ISP's like these? I am fed up with them but have no other option available.
they will design a stripped down version which they will give away for free! Just to make sure that when these children grow up and are able to spend money, they atleast know that microsoft is a company they can buy products from.
to a world where the more famous you become(as in increased user base) the more will be your enemies. Microsoft is fighting this battle for a long long time.
Apple will realize this in very soon.
FTA: "The handoff as you move in the opposite direction, from the cell network into a hot spot, is also seamless, but takes slightly longer, about a minute."
Does any one else also think that this is a self contradictory statement.... seamless handoff taking one minute???
may be they should explain a little bit more about what will happen during that one minute if we are on a call with someone at that moment?
one compiler to compile them all : gcc
one debugger to debug them all: gdb
one memory profiler to profile them all: valgrind
and in the darkness bind them : *EMACS*
I don't like Sony very much due to their unethical behavior in the past and have stopped buying any of their products. But his thing looks so cool that I... ummm never mind
but I guess the better question is what routing protocol is it going to use, EIGRP? OSPF? BGP?
We are talking about Internet router here. this will just be another router.. only special thing is the location (i.e. space)> I guess it will use BGP as all the other routers in todays Internet.
went to physics grad school and work in an engineering school. The engineers are not thinkers compared with physicists and mathematicians.
For an example.. you know those things called microprocessor-chips inside your computers.... yeah.. Engineers design those.. not physicists or mathematicians. And I think you can not design those without having the ability to think.

FTA " Negotiating the fairest way to split those advertising revenues with service providers could be a big hurdle for Google, one analyst said."
Thats why Google wants to become the service provider itself and wants to buy that spectrum for itself.
Damn the police... I am going to use captcha on my number plate to avoid scanners being able to read my plate number.
Guys who used to develop BProc now are focusing their efforts on http://xcpu.org/
You can have a closer look at it here

The iPhone looks to be running on a Samsung provided ARM core processor
Well what makes you think that???? seriously just a job posting on apple.com is not enough to say that.
Just use google personalized home page that will show you the slashdot posts' summaries atleast
