Setting SSH to high port seems like a bad idea. A non-root user could run a fake SSH instance to collect your password. Of course, that assumes someone else has access and the SSH server isn't running or crashed, but still, it's not the best way to add security.
Considering this is from Sony, I can immediately think of a use: Wireless controllers. My roommate has a 360, and we have to recharge the batteries in the controllers CONSTANTLY. If just being close to the system was enough to charge the controlllers, it would be very useful.
I'd like it if advertisers would allow us to give them information that they can work with. I mean.. I told Hulu that I'm a 20-something guy. You'd think they'd realize I'm not worried about my "inadequate lashes" or wrinkles..
Replacing all of our cars as soon as this one comes out is unrealistic, but that's not what's needed for a "mass exodus". All you need for that is for the majority of new cars sold to be shiny new Toyota Batteriuses.
It could also be useful in raytracing. The official reason POV-Ray hasn't been able to use video cards is that they don't have the required precision. That's probably pre-CUDA though, but "better support" sounds helpful.
This is sort of a dick move, but I don't think this is going to hurt PhysX much. I mean really, how many people use two video cards in the first place? I really doubt a large portion of Nvidia users are going to care..
The server's still working. I doubt they expected the full force of slashdot. And this isn't like a normal posting, this is the sort of thing everyone will want to see for themselves.. And it can't help that it's a huge image.
Not to mention that people are probably actually clicking the article..

Banking Via Twitter?

Personally, i like interacting with my bank by text message. If all I need to know is my balance, text balance to the bank and found out. The problem I have with this is that I want to interact with my bank, not Twitter.
Perhaps they should use colors in combination with something else, like say.. bars and lines? We could show the difference based on distance from the bottom line.
Unlimited downloads of music, movies and games hardly implies copyright infringement. Examples: iTunes, last.fm, Microsoft's music store, Hulu, flash games, Steam...
For something like this I'd say Thunderbird probably doesn't cut it. From what I've heard, Evolution is a pretty good replacement for Outlook though (and it connects to Outlook's fancy servers).
Did you not even read the summary? That seems to be the entire point. They make two cores run at full speed, and the other two go into low-power more. So two cores, lower battery life.
I'd have to agree. It's seems (to me) that buying the software without full ownership of the source code is a terrible idea. While it's easy to blame the Skype founders for offering a terrible deal, it seems like someone at EBay should've read the contract before signing it. Don't they have teams of lawyers for this? Or at least hire one temporarily to look through the contract and point out "Yeah so you can use this, but you won't actually own it"?
A lot of stores have a policy of banning their potential customers. Look at malls trying to keep kids away. It's because they only think in the short term and don't consider that all the people they banned for being kids are never coming back. I'm guessing this is the same sort of thing. "I hate kids, they don't buy enough stuff" or "All kids who wear hoodies are thieves".
I used to run a WoW server on normal slow computer. It worked fine. I'd imagine the hard part is getting decent uptime and speeds with thousands of players.
Speaking from personal experience, my vocabulary and spelling skills come almost entirely from video games (MUDs) and books (and not the kind of books they assigned in school).
Anyone who likes Linux and wants to try OpenSolaris should give Nexenta a look. It's basically Ubuntu using the OpenSolaris kernel instead of Linux (so GNU/Solaris?). All the fun of Solaris, all the ease of apt. I can't find builds for anything except x86 though.
But would you really rather talk about companies with names like that? Google knows their audience. There's the normal people who will use anything that's set as the default, and the nerds who are the ones setting the defaults. Google can't convince normal people to switch (because telling someone to click on the search box and choose Google is "too complicated"), so it makes sense for them to target very specifically at nerds, who will then do their work for them.

Yeah my roommate noticed that it started when I subscribed to Hell's Kitchen. And the subscription to Buffy the Vampire Slayer can't be helping..

But how else will you transfer large files?? Clearly optical disks are the best way!

My "signature" is a drawing of a lion. I'd like to think it's harder to reproduce than a real signature ever would be.
Well it makes perfect sense. If you want normal people to trust something, you have to make it sound like a scam.

Yeah just wait for the next release of the Linux kernel: "Now supports over a quadrillion processors and up to 64 yottabytes of memory".

It seems more likely that if Linux was killed somehow, people would switch to BSD (or HURD would get a bunch of new contributors).
