I think anyone who tried the beta is likely to not buy the game. I was getting something like 1.5 fps on a computer that averaged 40 fps on WoW. I'm sure my new computer could run it better, but what's so hard about making the "low" settings actually low?
Javascript alerts can't have input boxes on them, so it's not "easy" to make a box that looks like the master password box. However, you could do one of those in-page popups with a background that looks like a window in XP with the default theme that looks like it. Anyone on a different OS or different style might notice, but people on the default might not.
The thing about Linux is no one can agree on one desktop, which is why there are more than one. Some people like the retardedly simple yet unconfigurable Gnome, some people like the super advanced yet buggy KDE, and some people don't care and use XFCE because it's fast. No matter which one you choose, a lot of people won't be happy, and the beauty of an open source operating system is you can't force them to use one they don't want.
And if distributions being so different is a problem, don't tell your grandma to get Linux, tell her to get Fedora, or Ubuntu, or SUSE.
Your argument is from the view of someone who doesn't understand the entire point of open source software. Linux users don't want our choices taken away. There are definitely issues they need to work with, like choosing one package format, but getting rid of all choices is not what's going to make Linux better.
You have a point on everything except the "one can easily support new versions of Windows". I think they would see this as a downside. If their old hardware doesn't work, and they can blame microsoft, then they get to sell new hardware.
Now I understand that having OSS drivers helps the kernel devs troubleshoot those drivers, and keep them up to date with constantly changing ABIs/APIs..
That is the issue exactly. Also the fact that Open Source drivers don't leave people with certain hardware behind (because there's no financial incentive to stop supporting old hardware), and Open Source drivers can be integrated better with the operating system, and they can be ported to operating systems that the manufacturers don't care about.
If the complicated parts of the drivers that they don't want us to know about were in ROM instead of binary blobs, and the drivers were very simple then it would solve the problem, because anyone could write drivers for whatever OS they want. As it is, you have to be using the operating systems that Nvidea allows you to use. I prefer not to have to wait around for device manufacturers to decide we should be able to use their hardware on a specific system.
It seems like intentionally lying to your customers like that isn't a good idea. Eventually someone who knows what the fake graphs are showing is going to ask a question and you'll have to admit that it's all a lie to impress people.
You shouldn't need to slam on your breaks to slow down though. Braking from 70 to 35 is a huge waste of gas. They should give some sort of warning so people can just coast down to the new speed limit.
Except with all the role playing removed, and everything dumbed down. The only thing entertaining about DnD is when you think of creative solutions to problems. In WoW, the spells all do something specific (create item in inventory, damage monster, heal party member..). In DnD you can choose how the spells work. Also, in DnD, things stay dead.
The problem is that we're pushing them into this as a society. It's not that these kids are stupid, we're just telling them "the only way to succeed in life is to go to college x" where college x costs far more money than they have. Then we tell them "Well everyone gets a student loan", so they assume it's a good idea.
Instead of just screwing people over like this, we need to start teaching people that not everyone needs to go to college, very few people need to go to Harvard, and they will do just fine at a community college.
I was under the impression that the point isn't how much of the market you own, but how you use it.. For example, isn't the issue with Internet Explorer not that most people use it, but that Microsoft is using it's Windows business to stop other browsers from competing?
I suppose "ugly out of the box" is a matter of opinion. I tend to like how Fedora looks out of the box.
Your ISP probably is your DNS provider, so encrypting the communication to your DNS won't stop them from knowing where you're going.

Sorry I was thinking of a normal user name:/password: box. I forgot that the master password box only has one value..
With Redhat's Liberation fonts, fonts aren't such a problem anymore.
Isn't CSS 3 not officially out yet? I think that's why mozilla and webkit have weird ways to do it.

Be careful, it won't be out of beta until 2015!
On the other hand, it's not actually "free", and I'm not really interested in paying the FCC to censor a network I'm paying for..

Because some of us still want the game, but aren't willing to screw our computers up to play it.

I think just one would be a waste of money. It would probably still be $100, and you could only store 1 bit of information on it.

I think when you beat* an expansion in 3 days, it's safe to say you're a little obsessed..
*I realize you can't really "beat" WoW, but getting to the max level and clearing all of the dungeons is pretty much the most you can do.

Except they're doing it with KVM, which is open source..

Fedora or Ubuntu should both work fine. Just use the XFCE versions.
Well Office 95 is probably a lot faster (on a new computer). Although it can't open any documents made in the last 10 years..
Yeah but I don't pay for the privilege of using my computer at work..
