    I don't think it is an accident that these things are going forward in the English speaking countries where Murdoch has the most influence, US, UK, & Australia. So far as I can make out, Canada and NZ are sticking with freedom.

    TiVo let viewers zap commercials on broadcast TV, TiVo PC A friend used to transfer his TIVO'd Daily Show recordings onto DVD's for me. You can't FF on a DVD the way you can on tape. So, I saw commercials I otherwise would not have seen. Theoretically he could have edited out the commercials, but there is so much you can ask of a friend. It really is not clear how this all shakes out.

    It could also mean that the economy is shit and these were the only jobs they could find. Preach it brother. Maybe if companies hired more developers with tech support backgrounds we would better designed products.

    Really this should be a customer relations issue. Not just political, we should be contacting the public affairs department of these companies directly and tell them this is not acceptable. Unlike politicians, corporations are not used to that sort of pressure tactic and they might back down.

    My guess is what you have here is a good indication that some company had enough money to fund a lobbyist to push for this to help them in the future since they use FOSS in their product. That could be, it is still a very good thing.
