    And there are some Christians that recognise this as well. I am an atheist attending a Catholic University run by Benedictine monks . In my surprising experience, they place a very high value on science and reason. Of course they also value their faith, but I have never felt anything but welcome when speaking with them.

    Of course one way or another you pay for everything but power should be lumped into the library, schools, and roads category. If without it people freeze to death then any worthwhile government should see that nobody gets a monthly bill for it. I don't feel sorry for these so called public utility companies.

    Besides War of the Worlds scenarios, life is robust enough to beat foreigns. See smallpox and the new world, though it wasn't pretty, life still lived. Its just Darwinian is all. Get used to alien life and death, its a coming, probably jump out of your chest style.

    I don't know if I agree or disagree. I look inside my init.d and see complicated yet thoroughly worked out logic. I see interaction coming from the other moving parts with conditional statements. I consider these startup applications even if they are really just scripts. Gotta love /bin/bash though.

    I think you have a point about it not being homogeneous, perhaps old school culture persists at the chair throwing top and maybe mid level is quietly steering towards a more sensible money making approach.

    And this I think is the answer to the "Ask Slashdot". As has already been pointed out, you can't really expect Linux to be like Windows. They are two different philosophies. In a properly maintained system you can destroy your /home but not mine. Security and policy enough for me.

    I disagree. Of course the standards of proof differ. At its simplest though, each type is two opposing sides trying to convince someone that their version of the event is the correct one. It depends on who believes what. Sometimes, even only circumstantial evidence is convincing enough.
