from what i've seen, no matter what the policy in a workplace, it tends to be a little more lax in the server room/data center. i don't know if it's the understanding that we tend to work long/late hours and have to crawl under desks or whether they just think geeks can't dress nice. working in edu, it's even more lax. a lot of students thing i'm also a student.
so i guess winamp really is better than itunes. seriously, if you have a recent (last 3 years) computer, startup speeds shouldn't be too much of a factor. let's see a non-partial, thorough review. M$ office isn't so great that we need biased pot-shots to bolster support for open office.
i think you mean 4gb ipod mini. also, for same price you can get a dell pocket dj, with an extra GB. not as cool, but can often be found for around 180.
i'de rather they not rush it. i'm sure they have seen what happens when they rush to market. with the apple on intel thing, it's a great opening for apple to grab marketshare. apple can grab as much as they can before m$ comes back home. this will force ms to put out something to compete with apple and not only compete against older windows versions. too many of their releases have been just about upgrading. some healthy competion is needed. let the games begin!
just the fact that you refer to aac as "apple format" shows your ignorance. aac does not stand for "apple audio coding". it's an open format. fairplay is not. and about quality, itms encodes in the fast, lower quality form of aac. and still 128k. i doubt the m$ store will have higher quality, prolly 128k wma. but try listening to a song ripped properly in mp3 (eac, lame -- present standard). the bitrate is higher, but the sound is clearly superior.
actually, there are players that spank the ipod already. but they don't have a good software counterpart. more imporantly, they don't the huge ad campaign behind them. take a look at the 30,000 or so ads in soho for the ipod.
i like this idea you are trying to sell us. but it reminds me of something we are already working on. you may leave now, no need to take your folder with you.
your daughter will be the only one at the restaurant who will be able to calculate the tip without reaching for her cell phone. seriously, it's sad how many ppl can't do some simple addition/subtraction/multiplication/division. noone is asking you do your taxes in your head. just everyday functional math. schools should teach the shortcuts a little better, and use calculators much later once those skills are already there. i've found that those who can't do the math in their head only think they can't. they don't jump to to the shortcuts and rounding. they just think "oh crap, math". i've heard the arguement that most ppl don't need to bother knowing math, since there are calculators readily availible. that's like saying knowing how to read isn't imporant if you have text-to-speech tools. they should be there to help, not do it for u.
that fat fingered 12 yr old should have kept his mouth shut. ruined for anyone else who knew but was smart enough to keep it to themself. seriously though, who is buying calculators for kids learning basic math? pretty soon, the answer to all math problems will be "press the #s on the phone that dail your favorite geek". at least that's what my fiance does.
i'm really surprised at how much drm is defended here on/. well, not all drm, just apple the flavored stuff. then it becomes good drm (oxymoron?) i guess it's like getting kids to take their pills by putting it in apple sauce:)
sounds like sheeple words to me. nothing wrong with that, some ppl have more to lose than others. but it sucks that the riaa scare tactics are working. their lawyer sheepdogs are just herding the flock into the pens. once they have all the sheep contained, you will see the size of the pens decrease dramatically. this is what scares me about DRM. not the relatively liberal restrictions now, but the tightening later on. of course, i could be just paranoid. maybe the guys at the riaa r nice guys just looking out for us.
how many ogg players do you need? there are some good ones out there, pick one. i still use mp3 (EAC, LAME -- present standard) because done right, they can sound very good. it's also a very good least common denominator. great sound, reasonably small, plays on tons of equipment (mp3 players, dvd players, etc). about quality, the components in most mp3 players are not audiophile quality anyway. i would recommend trying to find an iriver 1xx series. one of the best sounding mp3 players and supports ogg. you can even load rockbox on it when it's done. i think the ideal setup is to have a lossless copy, and then convert to whatever you want for your portable. you never have to worry about losing quality by going from lossy to new lossy. and of course, no DRM.
what kind of resources are they allocating for this? monitoring all websites? reminds me of an earthlink commercial where the guy finds the end of the internet.
when i said "religious elite", i wasn't refering to the scribes. i was refering to those who can afford such a holy luxury. it's not unlike the pilgrimage that muslims are supposed to take to mecca. there r a lot of poor muslims who cannot afford this. to be fair, the quran sez you have to only if you can afford it. but this doesn't stop the ones who can from granting themself the title of "haji" and granting themself automatic religous superiority.
since these aren't the originals anyway, why not just put them in pdf or make some kind of high-quality prints? is the text not the most imporant part? it's like paying thousands for picaso painted by someone else. perhaps it's a system to make sure the haves are always truly "holier than thou". many religions have a lot of built-in things to ensure power for the religious elite. i guess these guys never heard of guttenburg.
"the torah code" would be a prequel. "the quran code" would be the sequel. of course this is relative to "the bible code". all of them would be prequels if relative to "the da vinci code" since he came after all 3.
i don't think apple needs to worry about pissing users off, most won't go anywhere. so they bitch and moan a little, they will still pre-order the next shiny item apple puts out. it's like getting pissed at the only vegan place in town. unless u'r willing to go to mcds, the vegan place has no reason to worry about losing u'r business. the pissing users off has to hit their bottom dollar for it to be a deterrent.

be unique, jump off a higher bridge!

with all those fans, will this computer start flying around when you play games?
for everyone who buys into W's stance that "they hate freedom.. blah blah blah" and terrorist just wanna kill ppl, give this book a read. btw, i would rather go by the author's "study of history" than yours. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/1400 063175/ref=wl_it_dp/103-7536979-3962227?_encoding= UTF8&coliid=I3FI8CL8A5G6O0&v=glance&colid=WHEREW91 CNBE

why not start at the source? how about securing windows so that there are less spam zombies?

however, at the end of this lifetime, their positions will be roughly equal :)

my pet rock was also very flatulent
