  1. Re:Did you fail history class? on NASA Engineers Dispute Hubble Safety Claim · · Score: 1

Actually the electoral vote was never in question and it was a by-the-constitution election despite the worst efforts of the Florida Supreme Court to subvert the election laws set by the Florida legislature. The electoral college members are not required to vote for their slated candidate, i.e., faithless elector, therefor they were quite capable of "righting any wrong". Since none did and all media recounts utilizing Florida election law found Bush to be the victor, I think my knowledge of history in this matter is quite sound.

Correction: The Electoral College of the United States elected President Bush over former Vice President Gore, 271 to 266. Do yourself a favor and pick up a copy of the US Constitution so you may properly understand the method that a President is elected in the United States. The public is never involved in directly electing a President. The public only votes for a slate of electors from their state.

There isn't a conspiracy of CBS, Budweiser, Apple, Xerox, GM, Ford, Dorritos, Pepsi, Miller Lite and the Partnership for a Drug Free America (Well, ok, maybe there) trying to distract you while the Government kills kitty cats, push grannies down stairs and tell poor people they can't have any money. It can do that quite well on its own right in front of us. No distractions needed. We just pick and choose which ones we most want to be pissed about.

Actually having CBS not air the commercial has allowed more people to see the ad. MoveOn should be jumping for joy that CBS denied the ad buy. It has brought more attention to their message and allowed them to air the ad for free on various news shows. You are even helping out MoveOn by publicizing the ad here on Slashdot.

CBS is making a smart business decision not to air this ad. Why should CBS want to bring in unneeded controversy into the Super Bowl that would distract from the game? Since it has a product that is in high demand for advertisers, CBS can pick and choose which advertisers it wants to fill in those 30 second gaps between plays. Also, if you are spending $2 million an ad as advertiser would you want your commercial message to be drowned out by adjacent partisan political message? Heck no! This would make it hard for CBS to sell the ad space next to the MoveOn ad.

This isn't political censorship, its smart business on the part of CBS.

No, I would be calling Republicans dumbasses for not securing a Windows share after a nice enough Democrat told them that their shares were completely open to all using the common server. Since the Republicans told the Democrats that they could see their political files, I really don't think you can call it spying. Spies generally don't tell the people they are watching that they are watching them. Makes you a really poor spy if you do. After reading these conspiracy theories of Republican treachery, I have to laugh. If you read the article close enough, it appears what happened is that the Democrats' tech created shares on a Windows server without applying appropriate user rights to them, i.e., an open share. The Democrats were using Government equipment to store political documents (at the cost of the taxpayers) where they discussed strategies to derail judicial nominees to satisfy their beloved special interest groups and tick off the Republicans' beloved special interest groups. The Republican techie caught on that all these political and non-governmental documents were open for all to see. The Democrats were told this and chose to stick their head in the sand and continue to leave their political playbook available for anyone to read.

This isn't another Watergate for the Republicans, this is a StupidGate for the Democrats. Not only were the Democrats using taxpayer funds to pay for the production and storage of their political documents, they were giving Republicans free access to them. Dumb. Dumb. Dumb. The DNC's private servers would have been a better place to put these non-governmental documents, not on a taxpayer funded server. Everyone of those documents belong to the people of the United States which members of the Republican party in the Judiciary are...
