Yeah. My bio-mom is a prime example of that. She was thrown free of the vehicle my bio-dad was driving and she lived (and me, who was still in-utereo(sp?)) and my bio dad was trapped inside and he died.
Yes, I agree that the vast majority of people are saved by Seat Belts, but for a long long time, I refused to wear seat belts.. but then I became a hypocrit cuz I required my kids to wear them and ended up being... caught in a "what's good for the goose" situation... LOL Damn kids. (Sometimes I hated growing up....)
Kris
(btw, the reason I say bio- mom and dad is that my mom gave me up at birth. She couldn't handle the death of my dad and a newborn child while she was still in high school...)
One of the best learning methods was to take your car on ice / snow out to a large parking lot and do donuts. What better way to learn how to handle a car than actually learning how to lose control.. and enjoying it!! I miss the good old days..
All my crazy and reckless driving as a kid made me into a much better driver. (Hey! I survived the Autobahn!!) Although it isn't anything they would teach in school these days or even be willing to admit to...
Ah well. (I always loved those rear wheel drive cars.)
Kris (who still loves going out and "playing" in the snow...)
I started paying for Hotmail near the beginning of the offer.:( But I did it "just in case"
Back in 1998 I was in the hospital for 6 weeks and they started deleting stuff out of my account because it was over quota. I was never able to get my stuff back. What killed me was they deleted old saved stuff rather than just blocking the new emails or even deleting the new emails. I lost important messages. Anyway, they soon started threatening to delete my account.
I have had the hotmail account for a long time. Mostly friends and family, as I don't use it for business, but for a lot of people, it is my only form of communication and their only means of contacting me. When M$ decided to charge and promised that the account would never be deleted, which was the newest threat.. if you didn't log on often enough, I opted to pay. (I was in Germany at the time, internet was... sporatic)
I think it was like $20 a year or something. Either way, I've been screwed so many times by Microsoft, it's too bad I can't claim child support for all the times there was no protection....
Oh! The telescope is a definite must! Good catch!!
Pool table. YEAH! Dart Board!! Gotta have a dart board!
Fireplace.. but not JUST in the library.. *grin* Okay, so, I like fire!!!
And instead of the slider ladders, I just want it to have a circular stair case or numerous levels looking down to the center of the room. In fact, the fire place could be there... or a fire pit of sorts... hmmm...
Yes, "rural people" may embrace the technology, but it still hasn't reached everywhere!
What is your definition of "rural people"?
I know of a town not 20 miles from Kansas City that can only access the internet via the telephone. And yes, I researched it. Many times. None of the local or national broadband providers reached that area.
And what are 24/7 phones? Do you mean available 24/7?
Bedroom would need those windows that have the blinds that can entirely shut out light (I like to sleep at weird hours.. especially if I have been programming all night). There were some awesome ones at a German apartment I lived in.... The blinds would shut out every last bit of light or you could leave them open just a notch if you wanted.. Perfect for a bed room. Also blocks out heat if the sun is shining directly on them in the summertime..
But yeah. I'm a huge fan of windows...;)
Hidden passages are definitely fun.:)
My open flow area of living room, dining room, would be accentuated by archways..:) I like them to be defined yet the openness is a nice. Seems larger and less claustrophobic.
Not sure I would need a helicopter pad.. but hey, since I wanna be out in the country somewhere anyway.. it wouldn't hurt to have a spot for them to land in case of emergency.
Large yard a must. Wouldn't mind having horses and a fishing pond...
Course, I wouldn't mind having something (on a much smaller scale) from Blast From the Past... ya know, just in case.. (Yeah, I'm weird...)
And of course a dream office and a library full of books..
*grin* Hope you don't mind that I took your dream home and expanded on it.. it was quite fun! Like I said, I like how you think!
I just use my cellphone if I'm rebooting or something.. *grin* Haven't had a wrist watch in years... The damn band would just hit the edge of my keyboard or the area beneath and annoy me anyway...
My old analog motorola was awesome for many years. The only reason I had to get a new one (another Motorola) was because my antenna broke off (with help from my son) and there were no replacement parts.
I've had my new one for only a couple months, but so far, I've been quite satisfied. It stays charged for a LONG time and, although it is just a basic, "free" phone with a one year contract, it gives me the ability to download ring tones and background images. (It does more, with games, IM's and browsers and such, but I have no reason for those). It is my primary phone. I haven't had a land line since 2002.
I doubt it is Linex based, but then I was not aware of this option until/. shared this article.
But yeah. I have been quite impressed with Motorola thus far.
Opinions are protected, especially when it comes to "public figures", but this seems to depend on certain Jurisdictions... most do recognize Opinions as a defense in a libel suit.
Only if Microsoft could prove that anything written on SlashDot has specifically harmed their reputation in any way... (they've harmed their own reputation? We just reiterate the facts and complain a lot) Also, if you say you were just "stating your opinion", that can be a defense. Plus, I would guess Microsoft is a "public figure" organization, so they would have to prove actual malice. (Which in some cases wouldn't be that hard..)
When I was in Germany back in 97-2000, cell phone use in vehicles without hands-free kits was already illegal.
Kris
Cool! Where is "here"?
heh. Sounds like you have some awesome stories to tell.. it wasn't all in one day, was it? *grin*
Kris

Damn.. Too bad I live so far away!!
:)
:)
Kansas has openings too... Guess it's the coasts that are over-ridden with people to fill positions... maybe people should move inward!
Thanks!
Kris
And where ARE you? :)
Kris
LOL
:)
oops, sorry.. don't worry, no one will notice!!!
k
Until 2000 or so, I used Elm...
Is it even still around? The only reason I stopped was I couldn't telnet into my account anymore. Some sort of security issue? *veg*
Ah, those were the days..

There are still party lines in the United States..
not many, but they are still there...
Not gonna say where, this state is already seen as horribly backwards...
And yeah, the printing press is still alive and well here...
Poor dude, do you think he will be able to function in today's world?
Actually, that was what I was kinda thinking too!!
Oooh... I like how you think!!!!

That's where I seem to be at now....
Time to move on to better and greater things...

LOL :)
Thanks for that clarification!

Either way, it isn't easy to win Libel Suits.
Actually they are defined as spoken(slander) or written (libel). That would make message boards and emails both written, therefore it would be libel.
