There are a number of IT guys who have wives or significant others... and THAT makes the guys appear standoffish, cuz they want to be able to get laid when they get home and don't want jealous wives or girlfriends to deal with...

  3. Sad on Breaking Gender Cliques at Work? · · Score: 1

    That's so sad.

I come right out, when I start, and say that if anyone gets in trouble for sexual harassment, it will probably be me. I was a military wife for 8 years and although the army is harsh on sexual harassment, the boys will still be boys, and when they realize it is safe to be comfortable around me, they generally are. In fact, I taught THEM a few things (not like that, get your mind out of the gutter) and sometimes even had THEM blushing. *veg*

So, I start off being open and forward (no, I do NOT jump their bones) but I speak my mind, and my mind is in the gutter, and before long I fit right in. At least in the work place.

Wives and girlfriends never like me.... I'd hate to hear what ole hubby / boyfriend say about me when they are home.

They make our lives as female techies at the work level "lonely" because the guys get into trouble if they talk to us.. and *gasp* if we happened to go to lunch with the lot of them, we MUST be sleeping with them.

We, the female IT Personnel, are forbidden territory.
ESPECIALLY since we understand what the guys do and their wives have NO clue.

I mean, what guy wouldn't want to be able to talk about their job and be understood for once!! ;)

We are just plain dangerous to all the females in their lives...

Yeah, you are right... it is just another move toward big brother watching over us.

I hate the way society seems to be moving towards regular surveillance. (As if we haven't already arrived).

You would think, (but then who the hell am I kidding) that these sci-fi books and movies WARNING us / society about things such as this would not be the moves the government would make. Wouldn't they see that in the long run it would not be in their or our best interest? Don't those stupid government officials realize that people will stand for it only for so long? Free will and all that good stuff? (Rhetorical... I don't WANT to know the answers.. too depressing!! LOL)

If I were still teaching, I would be certain that as many students as possible would read things like 1984 and maybe just maybe if enough of the kids are educated about it, the world won't go to shit.

But then, when it comes to world matters, I'm a pessimist.

Hmm.. wonder if that is why I never made it as a teacher.. I made my students read things that made them think!!! No wonder I never received a teaching contract. I was a threat to societal control...

Has anyone else read The Traveler by John Twelve Hawks?

The concept of putting a chip into one's hand is a big part of this story (a sort of conspiracy theory which takes Big Brother to a whole new level).

In this book, it's a total loss of freedom. The chip has a GPS as well as security clearance information. If a person breaks out of their routine, they have to respond to computer generated questions about why they chanced their habit, why they went their, etc.

It's a pretty good book but not all reviews have been good. I'm still waiting for the next as it is supposed to be a trilogy. Unfortunately, the author is "off the grid".

I can see a few benefits, but I'd rather live "off the grid" before some computer can document my whereabouts at all times. (Now, don't get started on cell phones, credit cards, etc. I know that I am on the grid because I like the good things in life but I'd like to think I could disappear if I wanted or needed to. I'd hate to have a society controlled by something as inhuman (not inhumane) as a chip.

I would never do it willingly.
I may be weird, I may be old fashioned, but I like my freedom. We are losing enough of our freedom as it is. It really scares me sometimes. And yeah, I do read the conspiracies and have a few of my own... *shrug*

    Just my thoughts,
