My son is 8 and loves Legos, just like I did at that age. However, he loves Minecraft also and spends more time playing it, creating things, exploring, etc, instead of building Legos. It's a strange state, because I feel like I need to limit his MC time because he could easily play it 4 hours at a time, but not his Lego time. Legos to him now seem to get old after having the same set an hour or two. They are too expensive to buy regularly though.
It doesn't help that they confused everybody with Win RT vs Win 8 as well as the fact that they told everybody that a better Surface (Pro) was coming a few months later.
I can tell you from going through numerous reviews that it's a terribly inconsistent process and has lead to a lot of frustration. I've been denied before for extremely petty reasons, only to get through on the 3rd or 4th try. Good luck trying to get an idea of how long it will take also. It has taken 45 days or longer from initial submission to being 'ready for sale'. I understand they want to keep control of their market, but their denials really interfere with my motivation to continue developing on their platform.
However, on Android I've made far far less revenue on the same apps, only to see my app get 'returned' daily and probably pirated. It's worth the pain still at this point to hit iOS first and Android afterwards, especially to make 3X to 4X revenue on iOS. It's why I hope Microsoft's approvals for Win 8 and RT can be somewhere in the middle.
Well, on Mario Kart for the DS, you aren't forced to always play online with your friends. You can select random players from your area or world-wide. The friend code system is pretty useful IMO.
Gmail is by far my favorite web-based email client. Google Calendar has proven to be a very useful tool as well. I use Google Local at least once a week and on and on and on. Maybe Google knows they make enough money on search and that they just want to release good, useful, user-friendly products that are miles better than the competition, even if they aren't profitable. Yahoo's gazillion ads on their email service is one reason I don't use it anymore.
Myspace is popular for a few reasons. They make it easy for anyone to put up a page about themself and start adding friends, blogging and leaving comments about how "cool" you think other people are. Its instant, its easy, its free and all of your friends have a page. Shouldn't you? Its real Internet peer pressure and lets face it, a lot of people on myspace have no clue about getting a web host and/or building websites. MySpace isn't designed for power users.
Its also an instant way to attempt to get popularity. Dorky kid #1 with 2000 friends feels better about himself than Jock #1 with 10 friends. Also, there are a lot of bands on the myspace wagon. What 17 year old wouldn't want to be "friends" with Green Day?
But wait, there's more! Microsoft's iPod killer will also:
- double as a powered beard trimmer (small fees apply per trim)
- provide a conveneint space to store change (small fees apply per coin)
- allow you to pause time and move really fast (small fees apply per pause)
- allow you to transport from one place to another (small fees apply per transport)
- melt competitor iPods within 30 feet of the device (free of charge!)
I still remember buying Quake 1 on a CD that included demos of Doom, Doom2, Final Doom, Heretic and Hexen. I also remember my friend showing me that you could crack every single game and unlock the full version from that cd. Of course, I never did that.
I think the constraints are very fair and will help make this more of a challenge to build a "new" look to the already very popular Slashdot. I'll be working on a design, but I would expect there to be a lot of great competition.
Slashdot is what it is and doesn't need to be a Digg clone, but instead a site with its own character and a new outfit.
Games like "Shadow of the Colussus" prove to me that the console has a lot of life in it. If you don't want to pay $129 for a new one, check out ebay. I just purchased a PS2 (my 2nd) for $85 with 2 games. My previous PS2 worked just fine for years but then died a few months ago (and it was refurbished when I got it).
While it would be nice if the PS2 dropped to $99, there's no reason for Sony to cut that price if they are still selling like crazy. Might as well maximize that profit while you can!
Do you think when the PS3 comes out the same will happen on Ebay like it did when the Xbox360 came out? Remember the thousands of auctions where people were willing to pay thousands for an Xbox360? I wonder if the next time a next-gen console comes out if the same thing will happen. I've heard plenty of people saying they plan to pre-order 2 or 3 PS3s in hopes to double or triple their money on Ebay. I guess we'll see.
I don't know very many people who can write legibly without looking at the paper. In fact, I can keep eye contact much easier with a keyboard as I don't have to keep looking down.
Another thing... They done away with "pages" by giving you a scrolling mechanism that lets you continuously scroll through all results. I already HATE this for a couple of reasons. #1 being that when I'm searching for something, a lot of times I remember a link that was good based on the page it was on. So by doing away with pages, they've just made it so much harder to remember a good link in your results.
Anyways, I'm done, back to Google.
Quick! Lets all go there and click "feedback" at the bottom, then tell them how much it sucks!!! Maybe they'll get the hint and change the name to dead.com
Microsoft is going to have to realize that not everybody in the world uses IE... They have gone to great lengths to make their UI clever and "cool", but when it doesn't work in Firefox or Safari or Opera, they're shooting their own foot. I realize its a beta, so the slowness doesn't bother me. I'm not a fan of the UI either... and I especially hate the scrolling mechanism.
What ever happened to a simple, easy to use, search engine that returns good results? Oh wait, that's google.

Related, here's the last 25 years of Windows logos and my take on the next 20 lol: http://firestream.net/images/posts/msnext20.jpg
I hope they call it the goophogle.

I had many hours of enjoyment with Crazy Taxi on Dreamcast.

I'm in the minority of people who actually likes the design and looks forward to using it. Way to go!

.. the two sites should merge into a single super site! Long live Sliggdot!
I could have sworn I read somewhere that the PS3 was delayed until 2007. Am I remembering incorrectly?

This will make the whole game worth it.
Or perhaps that poll shows that more teens than adults need help playing these games.
