    So have her 'pay' the repair guy, it's a win/win situation. You get the free time AND don't have to pay.

    Macs aren't more reliable, they just get less use (nothing important runs on them), so they take longer to wear out.

    Profits are the monies kept AFTER paying overhead, employee salaries, cost of goods sold, etc. A company can survive easily on a single digit profit percentage.

    Total BS. The default time for Windows automatic updates is 3am. If you're working then, it may be a problem, otherwise you'd never even know until you were asked to reboot. I have mine set to download updates but not apply. I do that only because I like to see what is getting updated. I can click to install them now and it runs in the background with minimal impact on my work. If a reboot is required, it will prompt me to do it now or I can chose to be reminded later.

    I think the difference here is that although many companies have no plans to upgrade, most won't be downgrading either. Our plans are not to upgrade existing machines but when new ones come in, we'll allow Win7 to continue to run and not downgrade to XP (like we did with Vista). This is a big difference between Vista and Win7 and probably successful in MS's eyes considering what happened with Vista.

    The way Microsoft has distributed the beta of Windows 7 to a restricted audience, he explained, has meant that those included felt "special" while others felt they were missing out.

    When I was in your position, I happened upon a local food coop that needed some programs written to help with mailing lists, customer info, etc. They didn't have much money and I didn't have much skill - it was a perfect fit. This helped me in my programming and more importantly, how to spec/estimate for programs and communicate with customers. I also got some free snacks and drinks every time I went to see them.

    if they try to enforce some bad things. Currently, Joe User isn't really bothered by this but as it becomes more commonplace it will get more attention from normal people. They could be getting enough rope to hang themselves.
