police forces are paid for by property taxes. judges are paid for by property tax, fines, city-owned parking meters, and the mob. politicians are paid for by lobbyists and big oil and Disney and other private donors with an interest highways are paid for by gas taxes (of which a whopping 10% goes to road/highway maintenance in my country) schools - property tax, again and the gardener is your own responsibility.
Nobody quite knows where income taxes go.. it's like a big mystery. "Income Tax pays for the Deficit, stupid!" but nobody knows exactly who created it in the first place, or why.
I'm not even talking about making a backup, although that certainly is a common reason to make personal copies. In Canada, for example, personal copies are expressly allowed regardless of whether you've paid for a copyrighted work. The fact is, copyright is supposed to provide some incentive for the arts & sciences while enriching the public domain. The raison d'etre of copyright is to provide benefit to society as a whole. You call copying "piracy" yet it enriches society. Before the CRIAA, RIAA, MPAA, there was entertainment. There will be entertainment long after they're gone. Society will win because it doesn't need huge greedy child-suing monopolistic thugs to tell it how to enjoy the arts. Legally enforced monopolies compete against common sense.
"The primary objective of copyright is not to reward the labor of authors, but to promote the Progress of Science and useful Arts." - - US Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor
Maybe not in your country, but in many countries around the world you can make a private copy for personal use. The truth is, the vast majority of movies recoup their production expenses in the theaters, although there's a saying, "no movie ever made a profit" which is true because of taxation reasons.
Let's see... Top 5 Classical Tunes on Napster (as of August 28.2006): 1. Upside Down - Jack Johnson 2. These Boots Are Made For Walkin' - Nancy Sinatra 3. I Will Remember You - Sarah McLachlan 4. Fallen - Sarah McLachlan 5. Popular [Original Cast Recording] - Kristen Chenoweth
It's a complete joke. Not to mention all of the reasonably popular tunes I searched for came up empty. How useful can this service possibly be? Fifth Element soundtrack - nope. The Beatles - nope. Lots of Justin Timberland/ake tho.
If Sony can prevent dual players then they will, Sony has an almost Apple-like NIH syndrome. ATRAC3, Memory Stick Pro, Betamax - all dead or useless because Sony doesn't play well with anybody else. Sony will see Bluary die rather than let it become popular in a manner they don't like.
Good idea, take the evolutionary dead ends and get their weak genes back into the pool.
Giving "homosexual biological children" a chance at life is like handing over the Presidency to a mentally handicapped candidate without any kind of fair election. I see your point...
My comp sci prof taught from his own text but it was both reasonably priced for hardcopy & available online, shareware style. Not all professors are greedy bastards.
Where are all the telephone sanitizers when you need them.
There, fixed it for you. You get bonus points for plagiarizing Alan Sokal's "Hermeneutics" paper
speaking of dyslexia...

My Pentium disagrees with you. Don't argue with silicon.
Wern't we just complaining about the $250 Wii console this morning. And now applauding a $299 graphic card as affordable.
I guess gaming cards are like women: affordable != attractive.
The synth, oh my. Is it a TV show theme?
Hay u stole my sig!!!
I'd set all "pigpile" to -1 and ignore 'em forever. This feature's on my Christmas wish list.

FTA: "If you don't put a lid on top of the bowl a goldfish it will eventually jump out to enlarge the environment it is living in,"
Truly an astounding display of cognition.
Lies! After some encouragement my goldfish leap out and UTTERLY FAILED to make the apartment any bigger.
The only ones worth downloading as a whole are the gapless ones, like Floyd's Dark Side.

I'd buy one if it was $213, but $225 is just too damn expensive!
Yeah.
Or you can just pay $188 and be done with it.

You've caused me a memory leak with your pointers, sir.

You should see Kazushi Sakuraba take out Royce and the Gracie clan. It's brutal & beautiful, sherdog.com has the footage.

If they're suing google then they should also sue millions of kindergarten kids for drawing in this style too. Miro was a shitty artist.
