When a game (JUST THE GAME) costs $200, you can bet that people will pirate them. Nevermind the hardware. If there is demand for something, there will always be a % that will pay for it, a % that will not and a % that will steal it. Price point is all about making sure those %'s are reasonable.
Nope. Generally you need a model release for professional photography. If this guy didn't give one, then these people shouldn't have used this photo for any public distribution. Case closed. What a stupid question. Why ask here and not go to a lawyer?
"It helps Sonic to fight against the flock of metallic maniacs with its Attack of Supersonic Turn and to defeat the Dr. Ivo Robotnik. It saves the innocent animals before they are transformed into maleficent robots. Sonic and you only can prevent that this occurs. Either atomic! Either Sonic!":)
I had never heard of our Mr. Francis Galton here, so I went searching for some more text on him online (isn't the web a wonderful place?). Anyways, I found a nice summary of his life and times with quite a few rather large excerpts from books that he had written. I'm still reading. What a cool guy.
I'm just curious, but why should this bother you? Would it be better if she went around sleeping with guys that fit her perfect description? Isn't that what physical attraction is all about? Find the right mate with the right characteristics so the children will be genetically sound?
What I never understood was why nintendo allowed all of their other fantastic characters like metroid and kid icarus from the NES and SNES days on to the N64 and the new game cube. I loved those games and they have so much potential to make a really cool game (or series of games). I know I'd buy a game cube when it comes out here in europe for a chance to play new metroid. Until then it's me and my dreamcast.
Hear hear to that. I have an old 2 gig hard drive that I use solely as a scratch partition for working in photoshop and illustrator. Very handy when keeping my larger drive from constantly being written to by two or three programs at the same time (like downloading mps and working at the same time).
Just wondered why you put windows 9x in the OS/platforms section of your resume twice. You particularly proud of it of something?:)
I'd change that before showing it around, man.

no, some posters are just stupid.
lets use your window analogy:
The defendant, using a security vulnerability known as a Window, was able to break inside INSERTCOMPANYNAMEHERE and read and copy confidential documents sitting on a desk. He then gave a copy of the papers to a friend to show him how utterly 1331 he was and then told the company about the problem with breaking through a Window. However, for noticing the stupidity of BRIAN WEST, the prosecution is serving legal papers up within a court hearing for misdemeanor charges of breaking inside a building through a window without authorization.

No, he should go to jail as per the law requires. He not only didn't alert the system admin, he downloaded files and changed them, got access to password files and changed them, and distributed both to a friend.
Not only that, but he afterward went around an told everyone a different story than what he had actually done. I say this guy is an immature loser that deserves what he gets.
The responsible thing to do would be to anonymously mail the admin and tell him/her that such and such exploit is open and that he/she should fix it.

I was going to mod this down, but I am just going to reply instead. This isn't insightful or interesting, it is WRONG. The new law only applies to.GOV and.MIL websites. The site brian west hacked into was neither. Get your facts straight before you start spouting nonsense.
I can't find the original story on the new DoJ laws because the stupid slashdot search is not working. Someone want to back me up on this or provide a link?
I don't know how many graphic designers on the mac there are out there, but someone HAS to mention that MAYA (you know the extremely badass 3d system used in final fantasy, toy story, shrek, et al) was recently released for the mac for the first time just a couple days ago. This is a MAJOR advantage for the mac.. A real reason for me to switch from NT based systems. At least now I'll have a decent photoshop to work with maya on. (on my sgi, I have PS 3. blech.)
What I think that everyone here is missing is the obvious application of this on extra-planetary colonies. Yes, I know that we don't have any now and that we aren't likely to have any in the next hundred years. There are two reasons that this is very exciting: there aren't likely to be very many nutrients in the soil of, say, mars and diseases will mutate faster because of the increased radiation on other planets without an atmosphere. Also, as was recently hypothesized, there may be microbes in places other than earth and they are likely to not be very healthy for the plants and vegetables that we are going to eat..
I was looking for a poem today lambasting the wonder and speed that is ADSL. For an hours worth of searching, I came up utterly dry. Apparently, it just has not been written yet. Ho Hum
He has epilepsy and has not renewed his driver's license since 1996.
So, uhm, can we make a washington state law NOT to change the FreeBSD logo? :(
what i'd like to know is how the hell they test that. :S
on second thought, no i wouldn't.

$50 a game is expensive, but reasonable. No?

DR. suess would be proud.
or scared. I'm not sure which.

Jesus, I never thought of that.
Thanks man, that was EXACTLY what I was looking for.
Ah. Touche. I guess, being an Israeli, I should have remembered that. *sigh*
So wait, you are arguing that it is bad for people to get smarter and good for them to get taller? ;-)

So the obvious question is that if genius is hereditary, can we breed for it intentionally?

Actually, I read an article a few years ago saying that all of the modern star treks' visual effects were made on macs with lightwave.
