My good friend who has been working at netflix for approximately 5 years says that most of the employees think the lawsuit issue with blockbuster is a waste of time
Blockbuster has been getting their asses kicked in regards to marketshare vs. netflix for about the last year or so When blockbuster initially tried to compete with Nflix, the Nflix folks were a bit scared, including my buddy who was worried about the future of the company he helped develop - however, after Nflix's somewhat recent resurgence & increased user subscription, which in turn boosted the stock prices from all time lows, blockbuster has become a non-issue to Nflix (well at least to my buddy and most of the staff)

Rumors and speculation about a MS handheld were floating around at last years E3. I believe they may go for a 'media' device that will offer a sizeable internal HD and the ability to play games, music, video, productivity tools (email, 'office' type services etc.), internet browsing...
We had a situation where the CEO's assistant was giving his private emails to a former employee with whom she was having a 'relationshp' What she basically did was 'backup' his outlook email to a PST and then burn the PST files to DVD-R
The IT fellow caught her in the act of 'backing up' our boss' email when he was away She was caught and admitted to her wrong-doings Supposedly legal action was going to be taken, but I changed jobs in the meantime
It is usually an option, one I did not choose when I configured my recently purchased Sager NP5720 - I use a cordless USB with batteries which will supposedly last for more than a year..? (Cordless MS laser mouse I purchased at Costco)
IMO bluetooth is not a technology a lot of people have embraced - Was'nt it going to be the next wireless/communications revolution...
Great point - It reminds me of a recent conversation I had with a good friend of mine who runs the IT department of an international drilling company - An IBM consultant visited his office to sell him websphere and othe 'collaborative' enterprise solutions - The interesting point my buddy made was that the consultant was selling 'services' over the actual product - The conversation was basically, 'buy websphere for $25,000 and our support and consultation for an additional $20k/year'
As an interesting side note, my buddy suggested that the consultant was high on something:) constantly fidgeting and talking a mile a minute...
I have developed several titles for GBA & DS - we can argue all day about which system has better specs and hardware but at the end of the day, as a developer/publisher I/we definitely prefer dealing with NOA than Sony -
All that aside you made a good point in regards to IDE - I am still using metrowerks;) Been using it for quite some time, so havent really tried anything else
IMO, the whole development process and dealing with account managers etc. is a lot more amiable with NOA as opposed to Sony
I assume you are a 3rd party dev? As we do concept submissions for all NOA titles we have developed/published
I do suppose other developers may have a different story, but in our studio we prefer dealing with NOA
Rumor only - it was floated around that Blizzard was going to port WC3 to a portable platform - I believe one of the developers mentioned how they were excited about the possibilities in the handheld market (no platform was explicitly stated though)
Good point regarding the emulation - It is definitely a cool feature though if you upgrade the firmware etc., you have to wait for a new homebrew hack - it lost its novelty after a few weeks for me - When I simply want to spend 30min to 1hr playing fun games, I pick up my DS
I have developed games for the GBA, DS & have access to a PSP dev kit for which we have not developed a game yet
From the development point of view, NOA is a lot easier to deal with throughout the whole process (concept submission, feedback, testing & final approval) - Sony on the other hand almost makes the developer feel like they are doing them a favor by letting them develop for the PSP - the whole process is overly convoluted and a major pain in the ass...
Go with the DS - MUCH better titles available - and as someone mentioned in a previous post, Mario Kart DS is reason alone to purchase it I have both PSP and DS - Without a doubt I play the DS a lot more - I was excited when I purchased the PSP but it just wasnt 'fun' - it looked cool though;)
100% agreed - I have experienced the same situation/enlightenment - After coding C++ exclusively for about 4years I moved over to python to help with game scripting - It was pretty amazing to me how much I was able to accomplish in much less time
there are obvious pros and cons for each language, but I enjoyed the experience of moving over to python for a bit and recently being able to code a couple of small DB apps with RoR
My limited use of RoR has been favorable - no issues, as of yet, regarding maintainability or spheghetti-O code
It has worked as promised and I have been pleasantly surprised by its functionality
btw, my main use was creating a new database for an intranet application
I purchased it from powernotebooks.com Specs include: PentiumM 2.13 Ghz 2GB RAM GeForce Go 7800 GTX 100 GB Sata, 7200 RPM Drive
So far, so great - I was about to purchase the P4 line of notebook but decided against it after taking a look at several benchmarks and reviews - the Pentium 2.13 runs nearly as fast as 3.8 P4 and it is much cooler and does not require the bigger case and is therefore a bit less heavy Runs FEAR very well and it has handled perfectly under a couple of stress tests involving ripping a DVD, running WoW, several browsers open, copying several GB's of mp3's - I was able to tab through all my open apps without any slowdown or major hiccup;) Im a very happy camper considering I have the power of a solid desktop on my lap!
there seems to be an inclination amongst a lot of people to say the ALL starwars games suck, or that ALL games based on movie licenses suck
the latter has slight validity, the former does not
..were rambling about this in an email which was leaked a few days ago
MS basically invented AJAX (methinks) and have not yet take full advantage of the technology. It is rather funny how they are both lauding AJAX only after Google has fully utilized it and made it 'cool'...

We have been working with the PS3 SDK for just about a month now and have begun to run our preliminary game code on it - one complaint we have is that the it took us a few weeks to read through the documentation, sample code etc. before we became remotely comfortable with the hardware, whereas with 'other' next-gen SDK's we were able to pretty much hit the ground running...this was expected however and in the end, the PS3 has got a LOT more upside potential - with the other SDK we know pretty much what we have to work with, the PS3 looks like it will take a few years before developers really begin to tap into its somewhat convuluted power and architecture
Very true - The RE4 point was a good one, I heard rumors at E3 that it was going to be ported to PS2, though my colleagues had the same hesitant thoughts - the poly count was going to be significantly lower and indeed it is - all that said, i think capcom did a great job with the port - The latest GD mag has a great post mortem with the director of RE4 - he does not really touch the subject of the PS2 port, however he gives insights as to the artistic pipeline they worked with for the GC version

An 'all in one' device
The communications could be regarded as a eulogy and death knell for /.
All the "slashdot is dead", "Digg revolution" articles may have finally 'dug' their way under Taco's skin?

Yup - thats the one I purchased at Costco - works and feels great - The zoom button comes in handy too!

just a few nostalgic games that inspired me into the gaming industry
Great developer - they have not (yet) sold thier souls to EA or other huge publishers
Quality staff as well and thier studio in SantaMonica is really nice...happy employees = good games/product

heh - agreed, a colleague of mine made a similar comment when we were talking about it yesterday
