Gee, it sounds like Ubuntu Linux to me... graphical heron? brown? orange button? Hmmm... might be reason for a major international lawsuit, which would favor Ubuntu... grin
The problem is that J.K. Rowling HERSELF was known to use online versions of this lexicon to keep her continuity intact. So she just shut down a source that kept her on track, just because they wanted to make money.
That sounds better than the economic situation in the US... where 2% of the population control over 80% of the wealth. ISPs should venerate these bandusers for attempting to reach their own version of the American Dream.
Waitaminnit... is this a new product, or the OLD Lotus Symphony 1.1? If the latter, is anyone besides me old enough to have actually USED Symphony? And do they remember there was a version 2.0?
Lotus Symphony was an early attempt to use Lotus 1-2-3 spreadsheet software to have an included word processor and database (actually just a different viewer for a spreadsheet). The word processor was not up to WordStar standards. And this is something we should be cheering for Linux?
Did anyone notice that this, purportedly official, apology was nowhere close to good English? If they can't write English, they can't write code... ok, that's not entirely fair, but they won't be getting many more sales in English-speaking countries if they WIDELY release statements like that.
What I didn't hear in any of the above is "
KDE 4 is too ^&$% slow," which is my major reason for dumping it. I thought I had an 8088 machine when I loaded Ubuntu with KDE 4.0. At first I thought it was a problem with Ubuntu, but at the advice of other Ubuntu users, I went with Gnome and have not looked back. The truth behind the comments about KDE 4 not having enough functionality is one thing, but if it doesn't work well AND it doesn't work quickly, stick a fork in it.
My question is: Is this just in AVG Free, or does it also exist in the Pro version? I've been using AVG Pro for years... of course, these days I hardly use it because I'm usually running Ubuntu, but it's still on my system for those rare instances I boot to Windoze.
I tried using KDE 4.0 on Kubuntu. I found it so slow that it wasn't worth it (not to mention having to find out where everything was, and wasn't) -- I was afraid this applied to all versions of Ubuntu, but happily found that Ubuntu (Gnome) was lightning fast and gave me all the flexibility I was hoping for.
I hope 4.1 is better.
I just went to the Wine site, paged through until I found the page with Ubuntu instructions. Guess what? Either they don't know what they're doing (I know I sure as hell don't, which is why I had to look it up) or there are typos in each of the commands. Won't run in my Terminal.
What bothers me is that ASUS is no longer committed to Linux, and the 901 is the last Eee that will feature Linux as the preferred OS. I'm waiting for other companies to bring out an Atom, and also waiting for Ubuntu to finish their notepad version of 8.04 to run on one of these... which should be very soon.
I know that I cannot use it for my work as a professional editor -- it keeps screwing up the formatting, without me doing anything. Word never does this. It is also a bitch to grab text from a website to OOo, whereas Word handles it without a gripe. I truly hate to say something good about a M$ product, but OOo still has some distance to go before it is a major player.
Just because it contradicts a pharmaceutical-industry-endorsed official government statement does NOT make it "misinformation". I've gotten a ton more misinformation from the pharmaceutical industry and from the government than I've ever gotten from a YouTube video.
There is a relatively new site, http://thisismyband.com/ , which encourages bands to post audio and videos, and pays both the band AND the viewer out of ad revenues. It's still cranking up, but might become a major player.
[quote}I'm not sure how Windows actually handles "mounting" behind the scenes, but to the user, a new drive typically just shows up automatically as a drive letter (like F:\) both in the GUI and the command prompt. Then when you try to access the drive, you'll get a dialog box saying the drive isn't formatted and asking if you'd like to format it.
In the case of preformatted external drives (which this one is supposed to be), however, not only will the drive immediately become available for access as soon as it's connected, Windows may also try to autorun any programs listed in the drive's autorun.inf.{/quote]
Um, Windows only shows drives IF they are Windows format (FAT or NTFS)...
OK, the Eee PC 701 qualifies easily under this definition... and they've added quite a few things since then.

"not long after phosphorus was eliminated..." Where do you live? It has been wiped from laundry detergents in the US for decades!

Too many problems with this... whoever writes the software is the vote-counter, isn't that the problem we had in Ohio and Florida already?
It doesn't add up? Of course not! It's using a P75!

Sorry, meant "netbook", not "notepad". Hard to keep up with terminology...

It was not released today -- the RC was released, which is not the final version.
The local Suzuki, Subaru, and Kia dealers all have used Hummers on their lot. Does that tell you anything?
Last I checked, neither OLPC nor Asus are in Redmond...

I may try MP3.1 ... or I might wait for MP98SE or later...
You don't speak English, you don't speak Technese... what language IS this post? I have tried several times to read it, and found that I could not.
How competitive IS Apple? Last I heard, Bill Gates owned 50% of the company's stock...
