    I think Google Translate also uses Flash if you want to use the speech synthesizer feature (the loudspeaker button).

    you do not need a flash player to watch youtube videos.

    smplayer v0.7.0 can play youtube videos just fine.

    Many times simply the fan speeds table is too conservative in laptops. The highest value is something like 60% PWM, and I believe that many times overheating could be avoided if a higher speed would be set when reaching emergence temperatures.

    I'm sorry, but that's a really, truly terrible idea. There are many, many "passions" that will never make any money. And just because you are doing your "passion" doesn't necessarily mean that money will follow.

    Ah. As you mentioned Japanese, it's worth noting that some writing systems (especially Chinese) will greatly benefit from an increased DPI.

    TVs would be 1080, not 1024. Anyway, I see it useful to have two windows side by side (esp. with the Win7 snap feature) and personally I would desire even more horizontal space for that. Maybe 2560x1024. Or then just have two 1280x1024 screens.

    Have you checked the classic HP ZR24w? It's not dirt cheap, but not $2000 either. ;) And it comes with a high-quality panel.

    Why buy something I have to root, and void my warranty instead of something that does what I want it to?

    Exactly. In general I don't understand how folks here are ready to buy a brand new device that immediately after purchase needs some kind of heavy modification. Why would I have to finish the product, it's the manufacturer's job. I'm paying for the software too, so I'm justified to select a product that does the things I need, out of box.

    I would just center the 1080p content. Scaling only a little bit (128px horizontally in this case) is usually problematic. 1366x768 displays make 720p material blurry too.

    This is just something simple, but some summers ago I made the "Fun-Panel" from the solarcooking.org plans. I was surprised how well it worked, was actually able to fully cook some small stuff. A fun and recommended geeky project.

    A lifetime of healthy food (fruits, vegetables, nuts and algae), regular exercise, no stress, meditation, happiness and joy. Achievable, but not easy.

    It's possible that some of these merely improve the quality of your life (which is great of course) but do not actually add years in number. Nice list to live by anyway.

    Samsung is the next Sony. I'm not sure if they have products with similar cult following like the Walkman line. Well, their LCD panels have good reputation. But in general they make quality state-of-the-art electronics.
