Maybe because Alfas of old used to be some of the best looking cars of the time. Not the most reliable things, granted, but still stunning machines.

And maybe because Alfas of today are both very good cars _and_ also damn sexy.

Check out google images for Alfa 147, Alfa 159, Alfa GT, Alfa Spider, Alfa Brera, Alfa Mito and Alfa 8C.

Probably the only automobile marque of today that hasn't a single dud/ugly duckling in its line up.

    One more:

This is Avenida de Cantabria, a reasonably new street in Boadilla (meaning it's been built in the past couple of years), near the "Ciudad Santander", an office/business/services complex built by Santander Bank to house the majority of its operations. Google shows it, although the images are a bit old, of the beggining of the excavations:

    http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=a venida+cantabria,+boadilla+del+monte,+spain&sll=40 .391241,-3.867273&sspn=0.012878,0.020514&ie=UTF8&t =h&z=15&iwloc=addr&om=1

Yahoo has nothing: no street, no complex. Both images and navigational data is several years old.

For me, at least, Yahoo Maps is absolutely useless.

I'm afraid even that is doubtful. See:

This is the calle Maestro Mateo, in Las Tablas, northern Madrid. It's in the new "Ciudad Telefonica" (Telefonica District), an entire new development owned by Telefonica, the communications company. It's also the location of their new headquarters. Google doesn't have the "purty pictures", but at least has the streets!

(Please zoom to street level. Btw is there anything in Yahoo Maps similar to Google's "Link to this Page"? Can't find it anywhere, it's hard to believe such a basic functionality is missing, and yet it's... done!)

Now the same spot in Google Maps:

    http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=b oadilla+del+monte,+spain&ie=UTF8&ll=40.404657,-3.8 94675&spn=0.012876,0.020514&t=h&z=16&om=1

Can you spot the differences? And please note that Google Maps is a couple of years outdated! Yahoo must be 5 years old, M50 ring road isn't even there!

Nowhere to be seen on Yahoo Maps.

This is the Cuatro Torres (Four Towers) Business Area, named after the 4 skyscrapers that are being erected there for the past two years or so. Strangely enough, Yahoo still seems to think it's Real Madrid's old training grounds!

Some VW/Audi models have a "solar sunroof", which is nothing more than a small solar panel mounted on the sunroof. It is used mainly to produce energy to keep the AC fans working even when the engine is shut off (when there's sunlight, at least), to keep the interior of the car cooler than it would normally be if it were parked in the sun. Since the car interior is, on average, 20 degrees celsius cooler, the AC will have a much easier task of cooling the cabin to the desired value, thus saving a little bit of fuel. Pretty neat.

  15. iPhone? More like iHype... on The Perfect Phone Storm? · · Score: 3, Insightful

But seriously, what I really feel will limit iPhone's adoption, at least on this side of the pond, is the non-serviceable battery. What's up with that? That's borderline demented! All the mobiles I've had since 1995 had interchangeable batteries! And batteries these days are notoriously piss poor, they only endure a few hundred charge/discharge cycles, after 6 months or so they start holding maybe 70 or 60% of their initial charge, after a year or less they're good to be replaced. At least with my Nokias I can just ride down to the store, buy a new battery and plug it in. Voilà, it's as good as new.

I wouldn't buy an iPhone because of that reason alone. I have two or three batteries for all my phones, and usually carry a second freshly charged one with me, because I'm not always sure I can go home everyday, or will be able to find a place to charge the phone.

I go through a new mobile maybe every two or three years, but I buy new batteries yearly or less. My phone is very important to me, I just checked and my five and a half year old Nokia 6310i has a little over 715 hours of talk time; my three year old Nokia 6230 has a bit over 482 hours; and the new Nokia 6233 I bought in December to retire the 6310 already ranks over 230 hours. Even with the 40% increase in battery time (what, it'll last 45 minutes now?), the fact I can't change the battery is still makes it a toy. Thanks, but no thanks.

Well, that, and the piss poor data rates are also laughable. What is this, 2002 all over again?

And besides, what idiot had the brilliant idea of leaving out 3G in a handset marketed towards hip, young, urban people? That's the key demographic target of 3G! Leaving it out is an egregious mistake if I ever saw one.
