The developer might never see a penny from this deal, as the fact that they have spoken out against it suggests.

And the reason why most Movie tie-ins suck is because they are developed hastily to time with movie releases and commissioned by the rights-holders. This game is from a 25 year old movie and started by game developers.

This is very different. Bioshock for example was originally developed as a 360 game, which was later ported to the PS3, by a different developer. This is a situation where the games are finished, one month before release, and Sony decides they want to screw european gamers.
And it's the regional nature too. If Sony had managed to secure a worldwide deal, I might have more understanding. But selectively screwing european gamers is just very poor.

I never heard anyone praising cash-buyout exclusivity, apart from Sony fans defending screwy deals like this one.

That has to do with the rendering technologies used by film studios, and the fact that rendering times are no issue whatsoever.
IMO the static-image fidelity is almost perfect. That's why screenshots and concept renders look so awesome. But Motion is an entirely different issue. If the haracters move like puppets it will completely destroy the impressive effects you may have created with high resolution and polys.
Nowdays it lies much more in the hand of the 3d modellers than in the capabilities of the hardware. That's why some six year old videogames can still impress, wheras the same wasn't true at the time.

The most use of the word I've seen has been a new way to describe party games and cheap or licensed shovelware. To me this whole "casual trend" is a myth. We've had movie-tie-ins and we've had party games for a pretty long time, and they've always been the money-maker in the business. Just because Nintendo has had huge success with Wii Sports and Wii Fit doesn't mean the entire industry is heading downhill. Most developers an publishers just took a wrong bet (PS3 and 360) and are reacting unbelievably slow to tap in on the huge market for the Wii.

It's actually quite the opposite. Rich people aren't generally affected by sales tax. That's because rich people generally put their money into real estate or invest in shares. Proportionally they use much less on living than the less wealthy do. That's why sales tax is highly regressive.
It's a little far fetched to claim that lower classes only pay for food and rent. They also spend their money on consumer goods like TVs and computers, furniture, household equipment, cars and not least leisure and going out, all of which is hurt by sales tax.
