People, it seems, don't care about their freedom as much as they care about thier bank accounts. The threat of a possible Government operation taking place on campus doesn't scare too many people, but the threat of another $500 going towards the already high tuition costs does scare them. Most people don't understand that they are losing their liberties, liberties protected by the Constitution. These people feel that the government is going after Terrorist and Bad People and would never infringe upon the rights on Ma and Pa America. They don't care wheter or not you can burn a flag or say Bush is a complete cunt. They don't care if Apu Nahasapeemapetilon gets shipped to some camp in Cuba and no one ever knows. They don't care because they don't think it matters to Ma and Pa America.
But,these people do care about that $500 that could go to something else, something more important than freedom, something special like thier SUVs gas bill. And the worst part..... these people Vote!
The Universities are smart in going about this as it costing too much. Seven Billion dollars (thats $7,000,000,000) is nothing to laugh at. They realize people will get pissed off at College costing more. The Universities realize they will get more people mad about this by playing the Money Card then they probably ever could by playing the Freedom Card.

He posts here and every once in a while when someone posts "Listen to him check out his UID" The next post is another user showing how he bought that ID. It's then fun to watch him defend his position. Someone will follow this post with a relevant link.
Downtown Albany, NY is trying to implement it as well, but it is paid for by local businesses. I believe there is a government grant involved as well but I do not know how much it is for. If I go to my fathers office and hold his notebook by the window I can get a few usable signals. However, I can not say wheter or not I am supposed to be on them signal. But they are there and unsecured. No network, just a number of Access Points.
My neighbor also has free wifi... off my connection. I am sure there are thousands of others who do as well (not off my connection, but off of others). I don't mind him on my connection. I tell him "no child porn and I'll send you an email if I am playing a game" (to keep my speed good). He gets the raw end of the deal, I kick him for shits and giggles all the time. I also download tons of stuff off of UseNet maxing out my connection, I can't imagine what it is like for him at those times.

You also have to figure in PEBKAC errors. Which if my years of helping family and friends out with computers is probably 90% of the calls.
