A good point. I really would like an ultra world reality simulator too but that's far away. The scope of what Wright has in Spore far out classes anything out there. I'm not sure "half-assed" describes what Wright is doing justice. Maybe Wright Jr., or Jesus Wrighst in about a dozen or a hundred years will create what you envision (and then the emerging ethical issues-- is it okay to kill fully sentient sims?) . But then again, the word 'game' is fast becoming obsolete isn't it?
I, too, would like a Reality Simulator where you can do anything you want. kind of like in Ender's Game AFTER he defeats the giant or whatnot. But lets give the guy some credit.

That's a bit misleadig. In no case do you actually HAVE To expand out to the universe. Or leave the ocean. or whatever. Doing that just opens new doors and pathways. Just like sim city. You don't really HAVE to do anything because you can't really "lose". Or the Sims or Sim2, you don't HAVE to buy a new house or get a new plasma TV.
Wil Wright isn't making a judgement call on values. He's making games.
Actually, there's a lot of competing theories going around, and some political scientists still call them 1st, 2nd, and 3rd world nations.
There is a "core-periphery" division of nations.
- Core (US, Japan)
- Peripheral (Congo, Etc)
- Semi-Peripheral (Brazil)
You are under the impression that all ads suck. Google is trying to tell you that sometimes ads will be relevant. I click on google links a lot because at the time I AM searching for a new cell phone service or vacation package to Bali-- or something.
But yes, increased visits will mean a lot of clicks from a lot of people, even accidental ones.
A lot of people here don't seem to "get" the fact about blogging. Blogging is here to stay and it's not about pretty looking sites. It's for the dissemination of information. Many blogs were like mine-- personal journals like that exist in in livejournal or myspace, but a growing powerhouse are political, technology, travel, lifestyle, and a host of other topic orientated that take advantage of the very simple format of most web logs.
Take for instance gadget and technology blogs such as Gizmond or engadget. Or linux orientated blogs. Or programming blogs. Or CSS design blogs. They have great info updated every day and give you the bleeding edge info you simply cannot find in any other format. Sure you can make an account on a forum and get a thousand other irrelevant threads, but like reading a good periodical or magazine, i trust the author/editor to make those informed decisions for me.
that's the power of the blog.
(for god sakes, even if you think blogs weren't nicely designed or didn't have good writing, they still were responsible for a host of other things relating to REAL news and actually changing the way "old" media works. is ANYONE political aware these days besides the narrow focus of their self-interest? read anything else other than slashdot?)
The girls that tend to play the same type of games as "the guys" as passionately as the "the guys" tend to just as scruffy and ill manicured.
This is because in korea, the PC bangs (internet cafes) are everywhere, and everyone smokes inside, and there's no sunlight or anything usually.
Most cute girls I've seen were just playing the usual games or chatting it up on webcams. They didn't stay too long though.
Someone else have different experiences?
How many people want to bet these centers are treating political dissidents who spend too much time on the internet i.e. go past proxies, setup political web sites, distibute pro-democracy propaganda, Tianamen videos.
I bet my hands will shake too after being in solitary for a while.
Cultural Revolution version 2.0
My web site generates around 200-300 a month (page rank 4) for me and I don't dare piss off google ever or for ever. *looks around*
That being that, wouldn't it be rather easy to fix this? They already use javascript so I guess they could cookie the client computer up with some kind of crazy google magic (i.e. unique crypto ids) and make sure that they are still at that IP 10-20 (or whichever timeframe because you KNOW they got crazy computer scientists there) seconds later. Course it would probably slow the internet down a lot with all of additional traffic and all. prolly make email spam look like filet mignon
I cannot believe that with a masters in comp sci that you have no practical experience at all! I was an intern before I went to my UNDERGRAD.
I'm inteviewing a lot of interns right now with stellar GPA's but with no practical experience. I'd rather take a guy with a 2.5 but with a huge portfolio and projects whether professionally or for fun. It's the hobby people who do projects on the side for fun because they are intellectually stimulating and not because they wanted a sum laude designation on their diploma that seem to do well.
What you should be doing right now is picking up some kind of PASSION for god sakes.

There is a difference between innovation and invention. the DS is certainly very innovative.

I guess people haven't learned the lessons of fascism. Democracy is the highest good, not authoritarianism.
From 1000 regular visitors a day to 120000 from slashhot. I bet he made LOTs of money today. Where do I sign up to be slashdotted? http://www.sitemeter.com/default.asp?action=stats& site=sm1problogger&report=5
