  1. Currency War on Dell To Leave China For India · · Score: 1

I think Dells move to diversify it's manufacturing is a smart move especially with a currency war with China v EU,USA in the offing. You can bet that wont be good and Chinese made goods will be facing down the barrel of a 25-40% tariff slapped on them. Any US or EU company with all their manufacturing based in China are placing their long term viability on risky ground if they don't diversify their manufacturing starting now.

Accept when I buy lets say a T-Shirt from a GAP store that only stocks GAP branded clothing they don't then turn around and tell me I can wear a "I LOVE BUTT SEX" button on it because it doesn't go with GAP's family friendly policies. Apple is literally telling it's consumers how it can use goods purchased from them, now that is evil.

  4. Trust on Google vs. China — Who's Got the Most To Lose? · · Score: 1

I think what most people are forgetting is that a consumers "trust" in you as a company managing their information assets is also an asset in itself when it comes to web services. For google to do business in China it will have to sacrifice it's trusting relationship with it's global user base to gain Chinese market share. The real issue here is will the money gained by selling its global "trust" assets to gain a foothold in China be higher or lower than not selling it. Also don't forget when dealing with the Chinese government you also have to turn a blind eye to spies within your company and open attacks initiated and financed by the CCP on your network to gain information. I just think Google in the end decided that the loss of consumer trust (and control of the business) was higher than the money gained by doing business (if you can call it that) with the Chinese communist party to gain a foothold on China.

I think another reason is because things like paper-clips and scribbled notes haven't (or cant easily) been simulated on the desktop. I would love to be able to scribble notes on a virtual document and virtually paper-clip different document formats (this is another major issue ie no single reader) together. I still find searching for files in some ways more efficient on a computer but getting all the related documents and sales notes easily together on the fly seems to be an a bridge to far.

  8. The Linux Model on Typical Windows User Patches Every 5 Days · · Score: 1

I use Linux and Windows but one thing stands out for me and that is the Linux update/patch/bugfix model is far easier for the lay user. What Windows needs desperately is a repository system in the vein of Linux distro's Like Ubuntu, Red Hat etc that checks for updates at regular intervals. Yes some windows programs already do this but why have 20 different programs running an update manager in the background when one would do the job. Im not saying Microsoft should manage the repository, each software maker could have their own and just inform the repo manager were to get updates during the install process for that particular program.

They get that people actually want an appliance

I think the problem for Apple and the iPAD is that "it is an appliance" and "not a computer". But Apple is trying to tell everyone the iPAD is a computer and even goes out of it's way to compare it to computers like netbooks. Thats why Apple and it's iPAD marketing spiel rubs people the wrong way. Apple should just come out and admit the iPAD is an appliance not a computer then all this crap would blow over, but no Apple being Apple keep putting their head in the furnace of reality then complain about the resulting singed hair when they just paid $300 to get said hair looking just right.

  11. Look out Apple, the Android Tablets are comming on IdeaPad U1, What We Wanted the iPad To Be · · Score: 1

I have seen a few Android based tablets on the web the MSI tablet being one of the better ones. The first thing you notice is they generally all have a webcam and USB and SD card slots both missing on the iPAD (cough iTunes lockin anyone). The reason I think Android is the real competitor in the tablet market is the OS was designed as a touch screen OS and has an app-store presence without the intentional lockin. Also the price mentioned for Android tablets are lower (same cpu/hardware basically as the iPAD but more connectivity, WTF apple) so I can only see the most style centric and shallow consumers wanting one.

Between classes I tidy my notes up and past the image in. We don't get many contracts to sign to be honest and pay slips are emailed and there is no legal reason for these to be signed as we get paid by direct deposit so the transaction is recorded. Most of our transactions are faxed (fax->email service, so we dont print) or emailed to us directly. Through the whole process we only print the order once at the accounts stage and attach it to the invoice. In the past we had 3 copies printed (sales/processing/accounts) of the same order plus a copy of the internal paperwork (6 copies) were with our new system we only ever print it once at the final invoicing stage. Also we have stopped sending 50 page manuals out to customers (who just lose them) and in it's place send a quick start guide with a pointer to an on line manual. Another thing we have done is restrict print jobs to ten (10) pages to stop lazy staff printing whole manuals when they only need one section.
